Here's how to "fix" the sound, based on many compounding issues from this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKCdvMZse724gpc.html

I'll be curious to find out what you mean by saying that people are "misled a bit." Pretty much everybody agrees that this mic does not sound good as used in the video - which is a rather strong consensus given how individual the preference for various microphones can be. Presumably you adjusted it to the best settings possible for the review. Not sure why it should need to be "fixed" if you did that.

  • @hyunjoonkim

I love your content, but this time the mic sounds awful because of the way you processed it as evidenced by the raw sample which sounds a lot more natural. For speech, you generally want to put a high pass filter at around 80hz to get rid of unwanted rumble/plosives and make gentle cuts at problematic frequencies. You've boosted 30hz-200hz by nearly 3db which makes your voice sound very bloated and the super aggressive cut at 1K is totally unnecessary. Professional XLR microphones generally take EQ a lot better than cheaper mics, so you might've been able to get away with these EQ settings on more expensive mics, but with this you need to be way more gentle with your EQ. Other people are complaining about the sound quality not because they don't like your content, but because it genuinely sounds worse.

  • @EposVox

    @EposVox

    2 жыл бұрын

A- I HAVE a high-pass filter on in this video. B - cut wasn't that aggressive (the scale on this EQ is very small) and everyone else with videos of it "sounding good" have a much sharper cut C - literally I'm EQing more gentle than basically every other review right now. Updated the post w/ the video walking through what I encountered.

@@EposVox Since you don't seem to believe the large number of people who say the microphone did not sound good in your video, perhaps you could consult an audio professional you do trust to give an objective evaluation? I'm really not super sensitive to the differences between various microphones, but in this video it really did not sound good. Part of getting to the bottom of that, and why it sounded good to you, but not to your audience, is something you really should get a third party involved with since your own ears don't seem to be agreeing with your audience.

I guess y'all didn't make it to the audio comparison section where I literally ranked it second-to-last out of the mics I compared it to... or? I'm aware it doesn't sound great. A big part of that is just the mic itself, rather than everyone jumping to blame it on my settings. Which is why I posted this third video walking through exactly which parts don't sound great, including some resonant frequencies I've never had to EQ out of a mic before. My entire conclusion was that the sound for the price wasn't good. There's no not believing or professionals that need consulting lmao.

Excellent and fun review to watch. I interviewed a candidate this week as he was using this mic and love it! I understand there are many other options, but for a basic mic and not near as skilled as you or most of those posting comments, seems decent for me, unless anyone can suggest another similar option based on price and quality all in one. My son's gone through three different mics with his insane set up, so I'm curious for his input and others. Thanks again for this review just based on hearing one guy yesterday for 30 min alone! Love your set up and entire room!

Adam, did you have any processing on the mics audio during this video (never mind, I see the EQ in the software)? I ask because it sounds really fatiguing. The frequencies aren't pleasant to listen to. It sounds a lot better without an processing. But I'd still go for an SM7b or RE20, they sound much more pleasing.

better prices with vst added recently if you don't need the added accessories for the wave 3 from elgato is a great choice not perfect thought but for starters yeah it's the best in my book definitely go with the wave 3 for starters or the podmic with a cheap interface works perfect if you have money the Rodecaster Pro which no kidding it's the best one I've bought so far but any cheap interface that lets you connect any xlr mic to the PC is the best bet for super professional audio

Interesting Mic! I love your take. But like other viewers, I'm surprised about the audio quality, at least processed. I listened to the video and audio comparisons on my Phillps open-back headphones, IEMs, and on my iPhone and I actually preferred the unprocessed sound of the Beacn mic. But great job with the video! Your perspective is refreshing as always. I'm still really interested in the microphone overall. I love the software and I could see myself picking this up eventually when I want to just run with a USB mic. It's a shame it doesn't work with Mac properly yet because that would be where I'd like to use it. I still love my RE20, but it might be a tool to pick up eventually. EDIT: after I kept listening, and rewatched the video, the processed sound of the Beacn Mic doesn't bother me as much. It's still not my cup of tea, but it's not horrific by any means.

I see lots of people commenting that it sounds too compressed (and it does), but it seems it might have been the way the sound was processed (very aggressive mids) since the raw audio (here: 9:38) does not sound as congested as the processed one (here: 10:33 or anywhere else in the video where the audio was clearly post-processed). So, it would be interesting to see an appendix to this video where we can see different types of audio processing styles (with some non "broadcasty" tunings) to see how this mic fares.

Love your review, but I'm kind of hating the sound. I don't know if it's your EQ settings or just the mic itself, but it sounds super harsh and compressed. I listened on speakers, DT770 headphones and IEM's and it was generally not super enjoyable. The clip from Linux almost sounded the best and fullest, without being as harsh and compressed. The review itself was still very good and I really like how in depth you test it.

Nothing about my EQing here is unconventional and is mostly in line with most of the reviews I have seen from Naaackers, Harris, Sam, etc kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKCdvMZse724gpc.html “Most streamers are using the SM7b” is also a completely out of touch comment to make lol

@@EposVox I kind of actually am surprised to say the Fifine K658 sounds better? Although this definitely comes with more optional accessories and software. But it’s kind of true that something seems “off” about this one. Empty somehow. Do you think it’s something to do with the build quality or a software setting? Edit-Although it might be the internal processor because this one is definitely way more forgiving to clipping. It must be something to do with the internal processing in the microphone itself. Huh.

I think this microphone sounds "muffle" and the compressor or the anti clip makes this video on hifi speakers "unlistenable" - can't tell it in words (with my spare english) but something "clippy" and not very clear. Sounds like old taperecorders and when it is getting too loud the volume drops and that is everytime your voice gets spikes and peaks and the compensation of the mic works against you

  • @noname-gp6hk

Yeah, it's bordering on unlistenable. I'm not even talking about EQ, the volume of the voice seems like it's wobbling up and down like crazy like the compressor is broken or something.

Your audio does not sound good, in my humble opinion. When the forwardness and fullness of your voice should be prominent, it is fading backward. I don't know if this is the mic's fault or the way you set it up in software. But this is not acceptable to me. Maybe it is the limiting setting in software or maybe you are just not close enough to the mic for it to pick up the strength of signal it needs. But this sounds way too thin a lot of the time. Start over again because I simply would not listen to a broadcast that sounds this narrow, artificial and badly manipulated. Truly, this is my honest and best analysis of what you sound like with this mic and setup. 🤷‍♂️

@@EposVox I realize that! 🙄 My point is that the mic does not sound good. That is obviously _not_ your fault. But I don't know if you can fix it to one extent or another with equalization or other software settings. Hopefully you can. Clearly you are a competent person when it comes to setting things up. I'm just hoping you can squeeze better sound out of it.
