Gamblin Oil Painting Mediums

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

At Gamblin, our mission is to lead oil painting into the future. To us this means crafting materials as they ought to be, not just as they have been. Our contemporary mediums are true to historic working properties, yet safer and more permanent.

A really helpful overview. Materials have changed some (a lot?) since college in the 70's, so this was very useful.

Great products ,man, but Scott , they gave you the wrong text to read it for some lines : "Low viscosity mediums turn color in very thin and fluid mixture ....Low viscosity mediums are excelent ?? for makeing brush work ???????? as they retain ???? the quality of brush marks ???? as the paint film dryes !!!" COMME ON , MAN !!! "Galkyd is an exemple of fast dry HIGHT ??? viscosity medium " ???? If "galkyd increases the flow of oil colors out of the tube " HOW ON EARTH CAN IT BE A HIGHT VISCOSITY MEDIUM ?????? The viscosity of any medium is consider respect to THE CONSISTENCY OF NORMAL OIL COLOR , out of the tube . So we have : LOW VISCOSITY MEDIUMS = they have a more fluid consistency then oil colors from the tube NORMAL CONSISTENCY = the same consistency as oil color out of the tube (Neo Melgip) HIGHT VISCOSITY MEDIUMS = they offer a much highter consistency to the oil colors when we add ... Low viscosity mediums brings dilution, fluidity and self leveling to the oil colors Hight viscosity mediums offers expresiv brush work & diferent degree of picks that remains visibile as paints dries !

Guenevere Schwien , because it is too expensive and he didn't want to lose it !!!!! In my opinion, Solvent Free Gel contains safflower oil + galkyd (they say that "contains safflower oil +alkid resin" ) .So basicly it is a transparent slow dry (but not very slow) gel that brings up gloss , some fat and transparency to oil colors when you add.... Depends also the ammount you add...little add=little changes / much more add= strong glaces , especialy with transparent colors

What paints in the Artist Oil paints would you recommend as the primaries yellow, red and blue?

Ultramarine Blue , Cadmium Yellow and Cadium Red or Alizarin Crimson. Keep in mind that cadmium is very poisonous so if you plan to use cadmium-based colours, make sure you either use gloves or wash your hands well before bringing them close to your mouth, eyes or nose if they are dirty with the colour.

+DR koko the Bob Ross medium is not good ...and the company doesn't disclose the ingredients...so why use it if you don't know what's in it..

  • @richiejourney1840

DR koko there is nothing wrong with Liquid Clear. Most pre-made mediums do not disclose whats in them. Just stick to using it as your medium for any painting you use it in. Try making your own mediums if not knowing what is exactly in them bothers you. There are lot’s of recipes out there. By the way, I’ve used Liquid Clear for years...no problems except-just like any other medium of it’s type (slow drying because it’s mostly linseed oil)-if used to much it will run on a vertical canvas.

Richie Journey the medium isn't good for the type of painting he does...I've seen his work...he's painting realism alla prima...using the medium is slow drying and not necessary to coat entire canvas...it only will mix with sharks in under painting...also the co doesn't disclose the ingredients why use a medium when you don't know what's in it...there isn't linseed oil in it...I'm sure it has solvents in it...which are not good for health as you know...
