I first heard of this movement in the documentary Audism Unveiled. When I first heard the phrase "Deaf president now", I thought they were talking about president of the United States! 😂I was like "Yeah why not, go for it!" But then I realized they were only talking about president of the university! Like...it's literally a university _for the deaf._ And by that time it had already been open for over 100 years. And during that whole time they never had a deaf president...I was so shocked when I realized that. The whole thing with hearing people being in charge of deaf institutions (especially some hearing people that can't even sign!!) has always baffled me. Like, why would you make a school specifically for deaf people...if you won't even let deaf people be in charge of their _own school??_ As if they are like: "Deaf students? Fine. Deaf teachers? Sure. But Deaf president? Ohhh no we could never do that." ...Like what even??? Sorry just had to rant. 😂 Anyway, this movement is awesome and really important and overlooked in history. Glad I learned about it. ~:~
