I met Brian Piccolo the Monday after his first start without Sayers in the backfield. He was a kind and funny man, and was gracious to answer a bunch of stupid questions from an inquisitive 12 year old. I still have the football that he signed, and later was able to get Sayers' autograph on the same football. A priceless memoir for the ages.

How lucky you were. This November will mark--are you ready--50 years since the movie's premiere on television. This movie set the standard for the television movies and miniseries that followed. Without 'Brian's Song, there probably would not be a 'Roots'. May God go with you.

I am a Canadian....I am asking my fellow Canadians and my neighbour Americans in this time of turmoil...PLEASE do not forget the racial and friendship messages given to us by Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo. It was a gift. This special friendship can prove to be a lesson for ALL of us in race relations. And if you have never seen the 1971 movie Brian's Song, please watch it. It is NOT a football movie. It is a story of friendship.

As an American I thank you. We all must remember that there is more that we share than what divides us. As JFK said “In the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet, we all breathe the same air, we all cherish our children’s future and we are all mortal.”

Back in high school, I snuck out of a football awards ceremony early to watch "Brian's Song". At the end of the movie, I cried like a baby. Years later, I purchased the VHS copy of the movie which I still have to this day. IMHO, Sayers is the GOAT. I watched several of his games. "Black Magic" was so fluid when he ran. RIP Magic.

Brian Piccolo reminds me of my youngest brother William Timothy John Wine. My little brother Billy as we called him was a man with a big huge heart. I am so honored to have known Billy Wine and I will forever miss and love him so much.

Was 11 years old and saw "Brian's Song" when it first aired, first movie that ever made me cry. Read "I Am Third" shortly after and realized football was more than a game. Gale's words became a mantra to live by; and today I have God, Family, Self tattooed over my heart. This story touched my life; as a teacher and coach I have touched many lives, that's my tribute to these two men. R.I.P.

I wish I could have a brother as close as was portrayed in this movie. To support each other and be there for each other as these two did. Amazing the depth of Brotherly love can be. Through sports and physical activity men bond. This bond was shown in this movie

Rest in Peace, Brian Piccolo with your brother, Gale Sayers, I hope you are playing football together again, writing this through tears.

And now in 2022, Gale Sayers & Brian Piccolo are once again together. Friends forever, even after death. I have watched Brian's Song many times, including last night. Did I cry? I certainly did. How can one watch & not shed tears? It's sad, it's funny, it's all the things a wonderful friendship should be without any of the racial comments. Remember, friendship is never about color. RIP Brian Piccolo & Gale Sayers.
