Need help, I currently own a svartpilen 250 stock, if I decide to buy the svartpilen 401 and do all the same mods as you, would that be practical? I really like the svart but I feel I need a little bigger engine so why not I just get the bigger cousin?

Hi buddy it comes down to how you going to use the bike. The 401 with the mods are great, gives it a nice little power upgrade and you still have a bike that feels small and light allowing you to throw it about, especially through traffic. Now the 701 is a different animal all together, you can’t compare the power between the two! So you need to think how you going to use it! If money isn’t a problem I would go straight for the 701 but if you commute through the city like most Londoners then the 401 is better.

@@twobuddiescustoms I just removed a ton of weight from my 250 svartpilen and did some performance mods passing through traffic at 100+ is now a breeze, bike no more wobbles at 100+ speeds and sound has improved a lot whats better is the bike feels much more agile than before and with a bit of tweaking to the suspension (made the rear shock softer), this has become a really good bike I can keep up with 650cc+ bikes on twisties and stay real close to a 400cc on a straight road torque hits much earlier than stock (it hits around 5.5k rpm stock but now its around 4k rpm) and peak power has gone up slightly I still feel the 6th gear is useless on this bike as it can reach higher speeds in 5th albeit at the top of the red line still a great bike and with all the mods I did I think I can keep using it for a few more years

wow quite a big difference, do you know if this is legal for an a2 license or not?

  • @twobuddiescustoms

In reality, if you want to ride any bike using a full 47bhp then it will need to come in with a minimum kerb weight of 175kg. This means some lightweight bikes with less than 47bhp are not A2 legal. Bike Spec You are restricted to a bike with a limit of 35kW or 47bhp The power to weight ratio must be no more than 0.2kW or 0.26bhp per kilogram. Hope your maths are good!!!

Obviously adding more HP is going to add a little extra strain on the engine, but the air\fuel is set correctly so reliability should be very good!!

It would be great if the x axis of the dyno printoout was in RPM and not time. Your max hp gain you said was 3k rpm - it is not, it is 3 seconds into the pull. I'm guessing that is about 7k.

@@wokeydokey6885 yes it does, and indeed as you can see from the graph it does make approx 42bhp at around 6000rpm What he is measuring is wheel horsepower, the stock 401 makes 43bhp at the crank, and after losses it comes down to a max of 35bhp as you can also see in the graph, and the time graph here is actually RPM At 3000rpm, the stock bike makes 31bhp whereas after these mods it makes 39bhp at the same RPM This also means the torque figures have gone up as the power band hits much faster than stock

Thank you for the clarification. 8 hp on a bike that weighs 350 pounds is huge. And since that horsepower gain is so low in the RPM rage, it probably makes the bike feel a lot quicker with accelerating through traffic.

Spending that much money on such little gain is not a wise choice on a small bike, save the money towards a bigger bike. Only really do this if you plan on track racing the bike, on the road it doesn't really do much at all and you'll get better perf from a front sprocket change which costs only $20.

He said it was the stock header pipe. The catalyst on these bikes is the bulge at the second bend, where the exhaust header starts to go under the engine. What he removed was the resonator/premuffler, which is the heavy metal box under the shock. This box is pretty much straight through and is meant to give the exhaust gas a place to expand before it exits the muffler to help deaden the noise. This is more of a weight saving then reduction in restriction in the exhaust system. I have a full exhaust on mine, with a true decat and resonator delete, with the power tronic v4 and their FuelX Pro. I am pushing 50hp with a custom map. For you neigh sayers, google closed loop vs. open loop and checkout the Svartpilen 401 Super Marauder on my channel...
