I am the production manager for the Honest Abe in Indianapolis, Indiana. Being a franchise business is different. Each one is independently owned and operated but I do agree, I think the corporate office should help.

The biggest shortfall with the Fortified roofing standard comes from the fact that this standard was developed in a wind tunnel in FL using current construction methodologies. The Fortified standard fails to recognize that construction standards employed 100 years ago were superior to the construction standards employed today. This is because 100 years ago construction was driven by craftsmanship, whereas today construction is driven by economy. Most of the homes in New Orleans were built over 100 years ago using old-growth cypress, and a 2”x6” rafter in a New Orleans home actually does measure 2”x6”, whereas a newly constructed home anywhere else features rafters which might be called a 2x6” but actually measure less than 2x6”, and are made from yellow pine. Thank God yellow pine grows faster than basal wood, otherwise developers would be using that to build new homes instead of yellow pine. We like the idea of Fortified roofs and we get to charge a little bit more money for building Fortified roofs, but the historic construction in New Orleans represents less risk to insurance companies based upon past performance and superior materials used in its construction, and this fact is lost upon the Fortified standard.

We're out of North Florida. I think the fortified roofing system really makes a quality roof! I personally think the ice and water peeling stick dryin is much better than taping the seams of roof decking. It limits the gutter guard options. Because after one summer in this Florida heat, the starter shingle and capshingle are pretty much 1😅. It's really hard to lift the first shingle, even up the gables. IF ITS INSTALLED PROFESSIONAL ‼️

Demitry it hurts to see people go through this specially investing such amount of dollars and not get what you paid for, and get screwed on top of that, I was one of their subs and they owe me nearly 30k after putting so much work and time in every house under the rain.

I just gotta say something. Re: fortified roofs. Too much is sometimes destructive. I have been a roofer in Illinois for over 30 years. In the past 10 years people have put emphasis on gluing down the guttered edge or using sealing starting strip. In hurricane zones this might make scene. But in other areas gluing the roof to the gutter or gutter flashing causes problems. You cant repair or replace a section of gutter without replacing the roof. In many instances its impossible to separate. In all my years of roofing I have only experience wind damage at a guttered edge only once or twice . And it wasn't much or it took the gutter too. Most damage occurs near the ridge or center of the roof 95% of the time. The gutters actually divert the wind so the edge cant be grabbed by the wind or pulled up. That in it self should be enough. Unless its a sales technique. Replace it all for 50 grand.

that's the tactics that they use when they say about franchises to avoid responsibilities, if you're a homeowner hire a local roofer that has been in the community most of his life, all of those out of state roofing companies are like a plague invading local communities and acting like storm chasers ripping ppl off and praying on the elderly, dishonest abe i knew they were shady and this video just confirms it.

I’m commenting on the story regarding Tampa Honest Abe. My story was also aired on the same news channel as the women shown in this video. I understand the franchise is independent and that corporate doesn’t hold liability to those who operated the Tampa operation but it is sad that they do not at least reach out to the many many customers who were greatly harmed by the Tampa operation. That being said, the company has been investigated by the State Attorney but because since bankruptcy was filed it is unlikely we will see anything. The video stated other franchise operations could help but that hasn’t been the case. Furthermore, Honest Abe big sale is their guarantee that comes with the roof. Since the franchise is closed that those who had the work done with the Tampa location that guarantee we signed in the contract is now gone too. My story is even more than my poor quality roof done that I will have to replace again but also the fact that when Tampa Honest Abe was putting on my roof it started to rain. The roofers waited for the rain to pass BUT NEVER covered the roof. It rained for 10 minutes in my home. The company admitted the mistake, honored to fix it, then stalled. An insurance claim was filed by them with their insurance company after the subcontractors insurance company denied the claim. However, issues with the companies policy, which I was not able to be given exact details, led to me filing a claim with my homeowners policy. Majority of my house had to be torn out because of the mold because the company dragged their feet and offered no help to minimize the water damage. I had to move out of my home for almost 6 months with no compensation to relocate and no follow up from Tampa honest Abe. I have filed with the state. I sought numerous assistance from attorneys to help with no answers. All of this was months before the whole story on them broke. I have even filed a complaint with the state for the GC the owner operated under. After investigation the case was closed noting he did not hold responsibility on the matter. Besides numerous questions I have on this, one I have is how is a GC not also liable if a company was operating under his GC roofing license? This GC also has other roofing companies still in operation. Furthermore, many of these companies not just in Florida that are franchised by Honest Abe all have questionable practices, complaints and similar customer stories and outcome. Not all of the franchisees, I would like to make that clear, but more than a few do. When does a franchise like this decide that it may be in the best interest of their name they claim to be “honest” by actually stand up to their name as a corporate company?

I still don't understand why people need to collect large deposits. It honestly only costs me a dollar to write their address and name on a calendar, and if they cancel it's not like I'm buying the material or scheduling the labor.

If you don't have a line of customers to take the spot of the canceled person, you're doing it wrong. If you don't have 6 figures in your business account to cover not having to take deposits, you're doing it wrong.
