Gabby is a ferociously intelligent and talented woman, however I’m disappointed by the lack of acknowledgment of privilege in her answers. The reality is, as a white woman, who just so happened to be very attractive, and the daughter of a high profile sports person and coach well known to broadcasters, she was always going to be streets ahead. She did the groundwork, put the hard work in, and absolutely met the challenge, but Sky Sports would not have taken her on at 23 without all of those factors in place. The face fit. I’m not entirely sure why people are so resistant to recognise these factors about themselves, or maybe they truly have no awareness. I doubt so with Gabby as she appears to have the humility and awareness, and likely she has tried very hard to prove herself but still. An average looking 23 year old from Brixton with no familial connections could do all of the shifts and make all of the phone calls in the world, and have all of the talent. They’re just up against so much more and the same people that welcomed Gabby to the table will not be as welcoming. It’s dangerous to give people hope and tell young people that if you do the hard work you’re going to be in a good position. Some talented people will do everything she did and still won’t get the break, and that’s reality.

I’ve asked this question so many times but no one gives me a straight answer. Please, for the love of god, tell me why you say ‘I hope no one’s listening but if you are please keep this to yourself’ before every episode? I mean, you can’t hope no one’s listening, or else you wouldn’t have done this podcast. You do it for money. You do hope people are listening and watching so u can get views, and money.
I have always loved Gabby. She is very articulate and kind. You are so down to earth. All the best.
This episode brought tears to my eyes. Dealing with any death in the family is horrendous, but sudden deaths of young people seem to be that little bit worse in my opinion. Gabby is the type of woman you would want your daughter to grow up to be like.
I can see it ‘ The Gabby Logan Show’ get it done please. What a talented superstar
My advice on grieving .... I lost my father, ok, not unexpectedly and not tragically... but a massive loss nonetheless. I unconditionally threw myself into grief. I grieved the absolute f**k out of it! I didn't hold back. For a whole year. I didn't bottle it up, I didn't 'keep calm and carry on' or bury myself into my work or do any of those stoic things that many people do. I just allowed myself to wallow fully in his passing and the magnitude of that. And miraculously, almost immediately after the first anniversary of it, a veil was lifted and the world became a normal place again. Of course, I think of him still, and the feeling is intense again for a short while ... but it's not debilitating in any way. So yes, my advice is ... go there, cry your damned eyes out, be a miserable sod, immerse yourself in grief and don't stop when someone might tell you it's time to get on with life again. In my experience, it's better in the long run to do it that way.
@jrb4347
Жыл бұрын
This is true in many ways but not when it comes to a young sibling it doesn’t magically go away after the first anniversary. It there for a lifetime because there is an entire unlived life with them and you’re not like you’re friends anymore - peers don’t get it and won’t get it for a long long time till they start losing people - so there is an isolation in that. It’s also the shock which is a completely different kind of grief - a losing trust in the world where any min the rug can be torn out from under you. A fear to live life again - it took me many many years to not think everyone I just spoke to would just die suddenly

I am going to be totally honest previously when I have watched Gabby presenting I just thought too nice and life’s perfect, wow I couldn’t have been so wrong, massive respect to her for being open, honest and strong, what a lovely lady. 🙏

This CD has three separate relaxation/meditation sessions on it kzread.infoUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq guided by a very pleasant and direct male voice. Unlike so many other products of its type, this CD does not have bad synthesizer music, does not feature a phony or affected style of narration, and does not make any bogus claims to be subliminal or to re-train the brain or any of that balderdash. What you get is 1. a guided meditation for getting into a pleasantly relaxed state of body awareness while taking a stroll (superb for those easing back into a fitness routine slowly after an illness or injury) 2. A nice long breath-awareness relaxation session that if followed diligently can put you into very deep states of full-body relaxation and mental calmness, and 3. a buddhist-inspired meditation session designed to help you develop and maintain feelings of loving kindness toward not just yourself and your friends, but toward people you don't even like. The CD makes no claims to be designed for advanced meditators or for buddhists or hindus/yoga practitioners looking for very deep and esoteric stuff. It is geared more toward the average person who just wants to develop the habit of relaxation and stress relief through natural, healthy means. him, if you happen to be reading this, keep up the good work fella, and I love your accent. I would also like to note that I have never fallen asleep while listening to this product. I would like to kindly suggest to the reviewer who said this CD makes him fall asleep, that he might want to get checked to see if he has a sleep disorder, or if he is simply not setting aside ample time for restful sleep at night. A healthy person getting adequate rest at night should be able to go into deep states of mental relaxation without dozing off, if not all the time, then most of the time.

Have worked with radio for over 40 years (two shows on BBC Radio for 30+ years). Gabby Logan has an amazing voice with such fluent delivery - Golden Voice Gabby 🙂. Great interview...
A very articulate and intelligent lady. Gabby is a role model for all women. I loved her openness and honesty during this interview. Thankyou both for an amazing conversation to listen to.
I'm old enough to have been able to see Terry Yorath and Kenny Logan play, and Gabby begin her journey as a commentator - rugby and football being my passions, so I really enjoyed this episode. I was aware of the sad events of her brother passing away, and watched the horrific Bradford City fire unfold on the tv..😓😢
Heartbreaking. Beautifully crafted interview. Gabby must be a great mum.
I found this episode really helpful hearing about gabby losing her brother. I lost my brother suddenly 8 weeks ago. Over the last week or so I’ve come to the realisation that I just don’t think I’ll ever be the same and that a piece of me went with him that day. It was insightful hearing her say how she thinks of her life before and after that moment as that is exactly how I’ve come to think too

Allison, I lost my younger brother quite suddenly 43 years ago - he was killed on a motorcycle. He was eighteen at the time and I was twenty-one. The before and after scenario applies to me too. The shock and loss is so enormous I found it almost impossible to assimilate. Indeed, I recognised at some point in those early months that I had to accept the unacceptable. I did not and still don't believe in a god or any kind of afterlife so I found no solace in believing he was in a 'better place.' However, as my outraged senses regained authority I was willed with a resolve to live a better life, to not turn down opportunities, to live my one life to the full. In short, the loss of my brother Mark's life served to drive me towards living a better one. The tragedy remains a tragedy, and even the passing years don't take away the rawness I feel when I allow myself to go back to that day. But I think I have not only learnt to live a more fulfilling life but also one where I have a genuine sense of perspective - I really never 'sweat the small stuff!' The other by-product of untimely loss is it qualifies you being a graduate of pain, and this gives you genuine empathy for others who have experienced loss too. I hope my words make sense and offer some succour for your situation. X Martin

@@martinkillips180 thank you. It helps to know I'm not alone experiencing the pain of losing a sibling, I found a lot of the focus was on our mum. Which is fine of course! But I felt the loss too,maybe even more so given how close we were (him and mum had been estranged for a lot of years). It was almost like I was forgotten about
@martinkillips180
Жыл бұрын
@@allisonburgoyne5418 As Gabby says, the way we experience loss and feel it is very much personal. However, I think it is a general truth that the parents who suffer loss feel it more because the loss of a child is not part of the natural order. If a sibling is very close then their sorrow can go unnoticed. For me, one of the most enduring and painful memories I have of coming home on the morning after my brother was killed was seeing my Mother lying on his bed sobbing for hour upon hour and calling his name. It is still a rather harsh picture that demonstrated to me the pure agony of loss. Mum passed away in 2005, twenty-six years after Mark died. She mourned him all those years but she took some strength in her remaining children, and I think I was closer to her after Mark's sudden death. Of course, birthdays and Christmas were poignant reminders that one of us was missing, and this feeling lasted decades. These days I find I am able to think of him and allow the better memories to rise above the pain. I talk to my children about him and even though they never their Uncle, they enjoy hearing tales about his exploits, and it brings me great comfort to know that he lives on in these stories. If you ever feel frozen in angst and sorrow, take strength in knowing that the clouds will one day pass. They may not disperse as swiftly as we might like, but rest assured they do dissipate in the end. And you will be able to think of him, like I do my brother, and feel some joy from his life and memory.
I lost my younger brother suddenly when I was twenty-one and he was just eighteen, so this episode and Gabby's reflections are of particular interest to me. So much of what she felt and observed through the experience were similar to mine. Considering the host hasn't experienced personal tragedy I think he asked wonderfully observed questions in a superlative manner.
Loved this episode...Gabby is so eloquent and would be brilliant hosting a TV chat show. Hope it happens for her.
What an impressive lady. Huge respect, and a high-quality, fascinating interview.
Having endured the loss of my sister when she was 15 and two cousins in tragic accidents, listening to Gabby recount her grief and its impact was a stark reminder of my own grief and how I got through it. Very honest, very open and for those going through the grief process much needed. I really got the loss of empathy and patience. Great interview

I have such respect and admiration for Gabby. She shines bright in all she does and oodles professionalism ☀️
As a 57 yr old Leeds woman I have always felt a closeness to her family. I watched her dad play on TV with my family in my childhood. I remember Daniel’s death so well the city was grief struck. I was already a nurse by then. Gabby is an absolutely remarkable woman I have so enjoyed this interview. I have followed her career with pride ❤️
this is the best podcast out there now. Steven is just so adept in the way he asks questions and then responds to tragic revelations...thanks Steven for bringing back some compassion to a space which oftentimes thrives on division and derision...x
Only a short way into the interview, but it’s already wonderful. Gabby’s comment about leaving school having found the “star inside”, whatever that may be. Also the terrible and tragic experience of the horrific fire at the football stadium. What an honest and open interview. Then your brother Gabby. My husband died in exactly the same circumstance, the shock never ever leaves you. Thanks for sharing so openly and honestly. You seem to have developed such a deep understanding of life’s lessons and experiences, how you learn from them and move forward. Sending love and a supportive hug. ❤️ Kx

A few years ago I saw Gabby and her family at The Great Oenone Street charity 6k run. She and hubby are just nice, genuine and decent people. Many other celebrity couples should take care leaf from their book. Admire them both and took so much from her story of grief. Yet another amazing interview Stephen. Really enjoyed this episode, Im a big Gabby Logan fan, an outstanding broadcaster and all round lovely person. very insightful.
I've always liked Gabby but this interview has made me realise just how much of an amazing lady she is. Ladies, a woman like this should be your role model!
What an absolutely amazing, positive interview! This lady's emotional honesty is so beautiful to hear ... As an Aussie, I've never heard of Gabby, but it's been so lovely to hear a Brit who isn't falling into the 'stiff upper lip' that is so often the case with the British. I saw this while living in Wales for 5 years in my early 20's. I guess the times I saw people being the most honest and authentic selves was at the Arms Park at Rugby Internationals. Thank you so much for such a great guest! 👍
Every conversation with your guests is like gold.. just superb!! I’ve learnt so much from you and your guests.. keep up fantastic work.. thank you SB

Steven's podcasts are hands down the best podcasts out there, globally ! - Gaby was amazing, I really see here becoming the UK's version of Oprah!
What a heartbreaking chapter for Gabbys family, it’s a strange one because even though I’ve lost both my parents I feel closer to Stevens train of thought as I had never lost anyone reasonably close to me during my lifetime and the first big person to go was my mum, I was the only one that would step up and care for my dad and that kept me busy mentally and emotionally. I lost my Dad 4 years later and seemed to be coping pretty well but that was because, as Gabby mentions, my eldest brother stayed with me for 3 weeks and it was when he went home that’s when it hit me. I don’t think you can ever prepare anyone for grief Steven as it’s so different and personal for everyone. Another fantastic episode bud, much love.

Great interview! Gabby is so likeable abd articulate and wise. I also think it's great people are being more open about menopause; I'm 57 and out the other side, having suffered nothing but a few hot flushes. I had no idea it can lower the immune system and cause anxiety etc. But the sharing of experience is vital as so many need support and don't get it.
Wow...I feel so elevated from listening to this epic dialogue. I love the depth of this topic. Thank you both
Fascinating and true having a disability myself makes me very familiar with the loss of people and also my own reduction of capabilities but the gift of disability is the ability of problem solving and having a great friend group that have now become a second family I have chosen and I love deeply ❤

I’m sorry to hear about your brother Daniel Gabby. I suffer from the same disease that he had. I haven’t had any symptoms either and I’ve played football my whole life.
