Doesn't work like people think. You can stumble and just stutter through a tournament a la Italy 2021. England could still go on to win it. On current form no but tournaments never go to script. England were very lucky yesterday and very lucky v Denmark. Serbia also deserved a point v England. It is often not great football that gets you through. Argentina talent wise were not best team on paper in 2022 WC but won. Portugal also were not best team on paper in 2016.

I was left speechless and shocked by our performance yesterday. I actually made a primal scream at the TV, during the match, and for the first time ever during this whole sorry debacle of performances, like many others, I felt something leave me for the very first time; my belief in England, A surprise victory did not make it return, its sweetness just tasted bítter Does Southgate have any idea what his tactics are doing to the fans? Does he think this is how England fans want to progress? By the skin of our pants, with a team that looks like rabbits caught in the headlights? Can Southgate break out of his bunker mentality of obvious team selection, strategies, and tactics? I fear that if he continues with this senseless, suicidal strategy, even if it leads to victory, it will have a detrimental effect on fans and players alike. I believe the players are angry too though they will never say.. This is the beautiful game, OUR beautiful game, Southgate is simply joining the continental elite by trying to win at the cost of the beautiful game. Whenever you hear anybody say ‘no such thing as an easy draw, you have to beat everybody…’ etc, tell them we were that bad, at least 6 teams loads better than us left in the tournaments, and yet we are still 7/2 favourites for the whole thing and the reason is cos we are on ‘that’ side of the draw. Making tactical changes in the 83rd and 94th minute is poor management. You wouldn’t accept it at club level so why would you at the most elite competition in Europe. Also if players are underperformaing make the changes early, the bench is just as talented as the starting 11.

It simply has to be down to managerial instruction. Just a guess could it be that Gareth Southgate with these players thinks in his head they can play like Manchester City because of the premier league current form of playing. Moving up the field in curves, side to side the odd couple of triangles then pass it into the net like a Man City or an Arsenal. If this is the case then he hasn't grasped the changing complexities of European, World and above all tournament football.

The players talk as if the fans don’t know what they’re talking about and then you look at Spain they went 1-0 down in the first half and convincingly still beat Georgia, and you could argue other than Rodri Yamal Williams and a couple others they aren’t the best squads/most talented squad at the tournament yet they’ve been playing consistently well. And it comes down to balance in the team everyone knowing their roles and playing their roles there isn’t just a barrage of crosses in hope that one gets headed in like we played vs Slovakia. The worst thing is as normal people and fans we can see what needs to change within the squad selection and have theories on ways to help give the team more balance and see how certain players in games can make a difference if they get to come on yet Southgate who is the highest paid manager and apparently the most successful England manager (I don’t see any trophies) can’t see or if he does see it is too stubborn with his favourites to fix the glaring issues that expose the team, we all see that foden isn’t a winger so why continue to play him there when he’ll just drift into the middle anyway, put Bellingham and rice together move foden into the 10 put Gordon on the left and tell Kane to play as a target man not a false 9 we all know he can pass and play as a midfielder but we don’t need that we need what Ollie Watkins has been good at driving at the defence getting behind them with runs and if you’re not going to play Watkins then at least instruct Kane to not be so drawn into the middle as it’s just limiting the space

Rewatching the match I was disappointed that Slovakia could not see that England was there to be beaten..The approach should have been set for a counter attack and break with purpose, they disappeared from the game as an attacking threat due to wanting to manage the game to victory...No need for that..

I am so pleased people are not being blinded by the result alone. That performance was terrible.

The game will be decided on how the Swiss exploit the lack of movement of Walker (he had a nightmare) and England exploit poor Swiss defending from high balls into the box..

It was Ivan Toney's headed assist which caused Kane to score the winning goal, so Southgate should start him for the next match and not leave him sitting on the bench until the last minute.

Thing is Mainoo wasn't even in the Squad for the friendlies and I don't think Gareth even knew who Gordon and Wharton were until a couple of weeks ago. So you can't criticise him for not wanting to play them or they'll start asking him what he's been practising for the last 8 years.

I am a Birmingham fan and I hate to admit it but Gabby tells the truth.

I don’t think saka is performing. I keep seeing comments about the left side of our play and saka is having problems too. Both wings keep turning back onto their stronger legs slowing down the counter attacks. I want to see a formation change. Two upfront, two wingers who don’t turn back and More crosses in the box.

I think Gabby should put in for the next England football coach. After all talk is cheap anyone can criticise. Lets she what he can do.

Fans can be seen as a barometer of performance. When player fully embrace their performance pragmatically they can improve. The only issue with this approach is that the better a player thinks they are the less likely they are to adjust their performance based on this feedback. The real issue is though that the top players in England havre heard from day one that they are amazing.. A good comparison is supermodels…. Every day they hear they are amazing and beautiful and perfect.. Many believe this.. but some wont.. they will question it and will lose confidence because they look around them and see that they are one of many.. In England footballers dont see they are one of many.. they are the cream of the crop and no other league can compare. They MUST be the best. It must be truly challenging to find out that you aren’t every four years.
