Update...B&H kept their end of the bargain, sent me the $315 they promised. So... 1885 retail - 500 rebate - 315 old g9 buy out from BH so = $1070 was my body price for the G9ii before tax.

Did exactly what you did at another supplier. $1000 for a G9ii is a no Brainer!

I bought the G9ii a few months back after weeks of deliberation. So glad I did. Coupled with the Leica 200mm 2.8 I'm using for non league football here in the UK and getting some very decent results at a fraction of the weight 😊

Hey man, great video! I noticed a small issue with the AF in your video though, and I had the same issue and found a solution... This may be the same thing that was happening to me: I am guessing you are shooting in AF-S, because it's just you that needs to be in focus... Well, for some reason, the S5II and G9II have an option in the menu that is pre-checked that makes the AF continuously hunt even though you are in AF-S mode on the dial. So if you are shooting in AF-S mode (on the dial), go into the AF menu and you will see an option that says something like "use continuous AF in all modes"... Turn that OFF! It also might just say "continuous AF" and then take it off "all modes". Something like that... I don't have my camera in front of me. Once you turn that off in the menu though, and you shoot again in AF-S, lock the AF to your face on the touch screen and it will never lose focus again! It was a lifesaver for me! Hope this helps!

Any photography genre which is limited by DoF like Macro, Landscape, video etc. MFT might even be better than FF. Low light and better control over DoF are pretty much the only advantages of FF. Otherwise, you always get more for your money on MFT.

#FACTS MFT is an amazing mount. Been using it for years in high end paid client environments with no issues. And low light performance is improving tremendously, especially on bodies like the GH6. I shot a bunch of content using DR Boost at 10000 ISO and only had to use NR a handful of times. We are in some INCREDIBLE times for content creation!

1 - S5 II & 3 - S5 IIX later 😅 Best Event Shooter Investment in a long time. Great perspective in your video Bro, simple and to the point. The “Only” reason, I did not get the G9 II as much as I wanted it for a Gimbal Camera… was that I am heavily invested into Super compact light L Lens (just not on the wide end) with no MFT Glass. After picking up the Sigma 16-28 f/2.8 L Mount - picked up another S5 II and just work the Crop or Pixel-to-Pixel Mode.

⁠@@techwaketvBro you did well, loved to heard your personal take on this. I shot Canon for Photo, bought 2 GH5 for Video and somehow ended on 4 S5 II series. The G9 II is a remarkable piece of tech, I just immediately put my GH5 on EF Speedboosters because I was heavily vested into Canon Glass so no MFT Glass to hold me from moving to all LUMIX Full Frame once the S5 II Series was released. Couldn’t go wrong with either, Beautiful Image from both.

Thanks for the video. Can you see any image quality differences (besides low light /high iso) between the G9 II and the S5 Ii? In particular, a lot of people say the S5 II footage is mushy (due to heavy noise reduction) and at the same time has too much edge Sharpening. Any thoughts?

Yes, absolutely - in my opinion the S5ii is hands down the best image. The G9ii is a Swiss Army knife that can do anything well but the S5ii is a master of a beautiful image. I would give away the G9ii before the S5ii. Now when I say best image it’s a combo of depth of field, light sensitivity etc. pixel peeping…the G9ii is tack sharp - it comes down to what you want I guess. Both are awesome

@@techwaketv Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. Apparently in the UK, MBP had a similar deal to the BandH trade-in deal, but I think it applies to the S5 II / S5 IIX (but I don't want to swear by that). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be such a deal for us in the US of A :(

Omg this is not the video I needed to see rn lol I've been trying to wait at least 3 months before I decide again if I should buy the g9 ii or see if the GH7 / mini g9 ii is coming any time soon. I have a GH5 and a a7s iii . I've been waiting for PDAF to come to Panasonic for years that's why I got a Sony but I'm not really wanting another big body camera

Go for it! Ha ha. Honestly the two cameras you have is all you need. Wait for the G7 with pdaf...I did however love the G9. What you could do is ... put your Gh5 up for an estimate at BH photo...they will then send you a discount code for the G9II for $500 dollars off. Just dont send your GH5 to them and sell it on EBAY for more reducing your outlay even more. Youll end up with a G9ii for like 900 bucks.

I upgraded from the GH6 to G9ii with this deal. I believe it’s still going on. BTW, you never even have to send in the trade in. Simply get a trade in quote, they send you a coupon code for $500 off immediately.

I know I even asked them about the trade-in and they said well we just take your word for it but I’m a bit of an honest Abe and sent it in regardless I’m OK with it ultimately I’m square with the deal but yes I probably could’ve saved another 150 200 bucks for sure

@@capitolbassfishing I doubt B&H cares as it’s actually put on through Lumix for all of their authorized sellers. I think Lumix is just doing it as a “sale” that isn’t quite a sale.

I got the $500 trade in deal , then traded in my GH6 and got the G9II for under $500. Brand new upgraded camera for that is a good deal. It has everything I need and more.

did you confuse 95 percent of those that watched this video, absolutely. but those of us that are Lumix users are in complete agreement with you . ..... I have both the G9 ll and the S5 II and as you point out each has its own advantage . (and I still use my original G9). zen billings in canada

The trade-in deal was hard to refuse when you do the math it was a no-brainer

The main reason I got a G9 six years ago was the Leica 100-400--smaller/lighter than a 70-200 f/2.8 for "FF" with an EFL range of 200-800mm? Yes, please. There is no significantly different "look" of an image from a larger format camera (that anyone other than the most pedantic would possibly notice--and if they do notice things like that, they're missing the point). The advantages of MFT far outweigh the theoretical disadvantages compared to larger formats. The G9 "I" is still a formidable camera today and I've kept mine after recently getting a G9M2. Once I'm as "at one" with the M2 as I am with the original (IMO, there has never been a more comfortable body than the G9 "I" and that includes the M2), we'll see how much I use the older one. I have carried both to minimize lens changing, but that's a bit of an encumbrance--if I wanted extra weight and bulk, I'd go "FF" (or more likely MF).

Everyone is getting ripped off by these trade in “deals” Think of what you paid for your cam initially and what you could have sold it for through eBay or local marketplace. It’s just like turning your lease in early so you can “upgrade”.

Nah my G9 would pull 450 or so on eBay body only. Thats only $135 more than my trade. Then take away the eBay fees and shipping with insurance and the people you sometimes encounter. I def. See what you’re saying but if that’s your fear - keep yours, get the BH estimate and just don’t send in your camera and you’ll still get $500 off. Still a solid buy.

Hey, I totally hear you. I think it’s mostly for convenience sake. But for the most part people are losing a few hundred in the process. I’ve been on the fence about upgrading for a long time, but I may actually go the Osmo Pocket route for budget sake. How are you liking the G9ii overall?

A G9ii for £782?! I got a good deal on the original about a year or two after release - I paid £599 when they were at least £899 at that time.
