Actually, Pav, that's NOT why it's called Micro Four Thirds. "Four thirds" refers to its sensor size, meaning 1.33" sensor. The 4:3 aspect ratio is actually a convenient coincidence. "Micro" refers to the flange distance as opposed to the "four thirds" DSLR frange distance. Hope that clears it up for you.

If you use the right lens, you don't face real low light problems,as long as you can see the object .This is my experience with the G9. The mark 2 ,is much more capable, so there shouldn't be any low light issues in most cases. Can not wait to buy the mark2.

You can use SSD with normal battery. I don't think the recording time will be shorter than if recording onto SD card. When testing recording onto SSD, the camera was generating far less heat, probably using a little bit less battery as well because of that

I have seen reviews that point out that this camera can take quite a long time to boot up or turn on. Did you find this to be the case ? Also when trying to acquire a moving bird it will ' search ' before the camera locks on to the subject when in continues focus mode. Yes - no ? Thank you. Because of your vid I will consider getting the kit Leica kit lens if I chose this camera - depending on firmware up dates. I have the FZ2500 & the G9 camera. Ray from Sacramento, Cal.

I’ve currently got one on hire. Can’t help you with birds, but re: boot up times - the first boot of the day takes a while (about 5 seconds), but the subsequent boots are quicker at about one second. It’s like even if you turn it off, it’s more asleep than off. It’s running the latest firmware 2.1. For comparison my OM-1.2 takes c.1.8 seconds at all times, and my X-H2 is steady at c1.5 seconds. What I will say is that in my very limited testing, the battery life seems poor.

1:50 You would think that's right, but it's not. The "Four Thirds" has nothing to do with aspect ratio of the sensor. Wikipedia has the correct explanation: -- The name of the system stems from the size of the image sensor used in the cameras, which is commonly referred to as a 4/3" type or 4/3 type sensor. The common inch-based sizing system is derived from vacuum image-sensing video camera tubes, which are now obsolete. The imaging area of a Four Thirds sensor is equal to that of a video camera tube of 4/3 inch diameter. --

PAV, it’s the opposite. The current s5ii body does feel smaller and cheaper than the original G9. They knew the sales were going to be very low and they wanted to keep the cost down. They even removed the lock button on the mode wheel and decided to go without a top LCD panel instead of making it up to the competitors top tier models. It’s a pity, because G9 was a great camera and deserved a proper continuation.

A lot of users like the S5-II body. It's designed as a small, more stills orientated camera and it's a great idea to use it as a large, more stills oriented body for MFT. A new body that looks more like the old one from the G9 would have approximately the same size and the camera would be more expensive. Also I'm sure the designers did a lot of research about what features people are using in the G9. I'm sure that is the reason they dropped the top LCD.
