I have a NEW VOR TUTORIAL WITH NAVIGRAPH here: • VOR Navigation Tutoria...
In this tutorial, I explain the different types of VORs and VOR navigation such as how to find frequencies, track directly to the station, fly to the VOR on a desired course, and how to fly from a VOR on a radial to a particular point. I use the Cessna 172, but the concept is identical for all aircraft. Input the frequency, spin the Course knob/OBS course until the CDI needle centers and fly to the VOR.
In this video, Crazy Woman VOR (CZI) is used and yes, it is the real name of the VOR.

    There's also the military TACAN which has a slant range of 200 nm's. TACAN stations are often combined with VOR/DME stations.

    You are right but I am not sure they are even programmed in FS2020. When I was using the Crazy Woman VOR I tested the range and it went to 199 NM at 14,000 feet and it's only a High Altitude VOR. In real life I've received DMEs 200 NMs away but not the VOR signal itself.

    I cannot find where to enter an NDB frequency. However, to get DME, click on the HSI or near it and a page will come up. On that page you can select BRG Pointer. It has ADF as a choice but nowhere to put in an NDB frequency. You can select NAV 1 or NAV 2 on the bearing pointer and it will show DME if a VOR is tuned and being received. I did notice there is a volume knob on the audio panel that says ADF for tuning the NDB. I think it is a glitch that it can't be tuned, or buried deep in the game. I tried for 30 minutes to find it.

    How do you triangulate between two VORs or use them to plot a course when you are not flyin directly to or from the VOR?

  • @thecorporatepilotdad

    @thecorporatepilotdad

    There will be a video in the coming days on VOR triangulation.

  • @thecorporatepilotdad

    @thecorporatepilotdad

    2 жыл бұрын

    The video on VOR triangulation has been uploaded. A course can be flown to or from the station while using another VOR to pinpoint the location on the course being flown. RNAV used to be used to input a radial and distance to make waypoints to fly a straight line between multiple VORs vs flying to each one.

    I use Navigraph now, but when I made the video, I used SkyVector. Tune the frequency and then turn the course knob on the HSI or OBS knob on a VOR until it centers. I am going to make another VOR video soon. I have had people say they got lost trying them to use VORs. Once you get the hang of them they are very easy to use.

    Is that an ILS landing?

  • @thecorporatepilotdad

    @thecorporatepilotdad

    3 жыл бұрын

    No, this video is a tutorial on how to use a VOR. There is no such thing as an ILS landing. It's called an ILS approach. This works similar to a localizer which is the left right guidance part of an ILS approach. A localizer sits on the far end of the approach runway and transmits at a smaller angle but is very precise. A VOR transmits in 360 degrees.

  • @thecorporatepilotdad

    @thecorporatepilotdad

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Sanctimonious007 pretty much all landings are done manually. Some airliners and specially trained crews can do auto land with ILS approaches. If you go to my channel page then click Videos, you’ll see all of them. There is a VOR approach on that page. Actually two VOR approaches. One is in the TBM and the other in the Baron. When getting to an airport, either an instrument approach will be done or a visual approach. Non instrument rated pilots will enter the traffic pattern and land visually.
