Welcome to our new content. As the Weapon Detective, we are investigating modern weapon systems of the Second Cold War. The Weapon Legends is about older weapon systems. In our videos, we tell their epic stories which made them a legend. The Weapon Legends investigates these stories, reads between the lines, analyse, and tells the untold. In our videos, you can find technical information as well as historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let the wisdom of history show us what the future would be like. Let’s investigate the veteran weapons of the past together.

HMS Stockholm and Malmö were not initially designed as ASW - that was added late in the design process. We had some problems with the own sound emissions while sub hunting.

The Gävle class got a recent modernisation and now has the Sea Giraffe AMB search radar which is a very successful Swedish 3D radar. The Gävle class also lost it's ELMA ASW system when it became the Gävle class. In it's place is the German MASS countermeasure system. The ELMA system was taken out of service for a number of years but started being re-fitted on light units after the 2014 submarine hunt but not on the Gävle class Corvettes.

None of their corvettes has Anti Air Missiles. That makes them very vulnerable. The cruiser sold to chile became a submarine tender until 2015 (not sure) when it was decommissioned.

@@dkfdhdsj6261 Is that why Russia is flying nuclear bombing training missions against our capital? To show how non threatening they are? And what effects did that have? That Sweden "panic bought" the Patriot system from the US, and now NATO and Sweden can combine their AA operations seamlessly. The Kremlin is really playing 3D chess here...

The change from a light fleet with Destroyers and Cruisers to an even lighter one consisting of Torpedo Boats was made in 1958. Before that the a light fleet of Destroyers and Cruisers had been adopted in 1942 instead of a heavy fleet with armoured coastal defence ships. The result of this was seen in the 1970s as destroyers where rapidly being decommissioned with the replacements being gas turbine powered torpedo boats. The navy was drawing the really short straw at this time basically being a 9-5 organisation to keep costs down and things like ASW warfare was cut down to a single platform helicopters. It wasn't until the U137 incident in 1981 that a turnaround happened and the Navy started receiving priority and while the number of platforms didn't increase the technical quality did.

I think it may be purely coincidental that the Russian vessels were there at the time. After all, NS Concord is just an oil tanker and Professor Logachev is a research and survey vessel. The fact that such ships are navigating the Baltic does not necessarily indicate that it is an important event.

The media story was 99% certain to be misinformation by MSM and the military. However, Weapon Detective is just reporting what was said in Swedish media at the time. That this story is not very logical is because what was reported in Swedish media was not logical.

@@habahan4257 Is this sarcasm? It must be I will say this. Why would an oil tanker be zig zaging? Do we see that often? And that behavior is seen after a large refit which includes and I quote "Big amount of new installations. Big amount of mechanical and electrical works. Tank modifications" It's owned by a Russian state company, and the CEO of that company is close friends with Putin. And Professor Logachev strangely goes into ports near military exercise, and then leave after the exercises finish. Tell me, how naive should I be here?

@@benghazi4216 The story was based on two sightings a week (two?) apart and two pictures from mobile camera that claimed to show a Russian submarine at great distance. Thats it. Then the media whipped up a frenzy where a what turned out to be a senior on a fishing trip was turned into a spetznas agent fleeing from sinking Russian submarine. The second sighting was particularly silly and transparent as it purported to show a submarine outside Nacka. That would mean a submarine that penetrated Oxdjupet or Vaxholm which is absolutely laughable. These are narrows you have to pass to reach Stockholm where the Swedish navy have stopped invaders for 400 years. Vaxholm is too shallow to pass submerged and Oxdjupet is a sound 180 m wide, 17 m deep. And there is no other route to Nacka. To go inside Vaxholm/Oxdjupet when there is a sub hunt, you might as well just hand the sub over to Swedish navy. Also, consider, the story is that Russian submarine penetrate deep into Stockholm archipelago and then surface to be photographed and then disappear. The Russian submarines also managed to be photographed at exactly far enough away to be completely indescernible from a wave or some small boat or whatever. TWICE. Its an idiotic story.
