I am in Zambia and belong to the United Church of Zambia and we will be having a choir festival in August and this is the song my new choral group has chosen to present during the festival. Am actually a new member in this choir and it's my first time hearing this song. Great stuff. I love classic gospel music.

So many concertgoers don't know this oratorio, a shame. I now have 3 versions, but if I'd died at 65 I would never have heard it! And this finale arguably more exuberant than the Hallelujah Chorus or Worthy Is the Lamb... genius. Thanks for this excellent video!

Then I am glad I heard of it at age about 11 years ago. Wow. And the only reason I heard of it was because the Choirmasters of my Univchoir decided to let us do this for our annual celebration. 9 month rehearsals with prayers. After the last song a number of us burst into tears on stage

It may also be of interest to know that one of the choruses in "Israel in Egypt" (the opening chorus of Part II "Moses and the children of Israel sung this song unto the Lord" was the first piece of choral music ever recorded: an ever-so-slow (as was the fashion then) performance, probably with a huge chorus and orchestra, at the Crystal Palace in London in 1888: only just recognisable, recorded on a wax cylinder! kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZGepko-GoL2seKg.html

I honestly think this is one of, if not the finest version of the great finale to this splendid oratorio. The acoustics in the performance hall create a beautiful reverberation and the soloists are strong and pure in voice. But most importantly of all, the brass, especially the three trombones are used to maximum potential. Their deep, knarly, almost raucous sound lends a kind of wild excitement to the emotional declaration of the Israeli's. There are so many great orchestras performing this work but for some strange reason they forget the trombones and all the research I've done suggests that Handel did indeed use them during his time, althouhg they were rarely used for other works of his. The trumpets can also be heard peaking above the highest soprano notes in the great declaration that God will Reign Forever. Just a spectacular edition of this great work. Congratulations to all the artists. I can't tell you how much I thoroughly enjoy your work.

One can only imagine what the choirs in Heaven will be like. Can't wait, I wonder will Handle and Bach be put into service? music is good for the spirit and soul, at times when my faith is on shaking ground I turn to choral music, and very soon am filled with the spirit and thanking the Lord for the gifts of music.

Yes, I actually saw that video before seeing this one, that recording of this in 1888 sounded quite haunting, but fascinating. The recording was also of course primitive and obviously could only pick up so much, so I then wanted to hear what that piece actually sounded like live to the people in that concert hall in 1888, and this video gave me the answer. It's those women's chorus voices which are heard the most, but all broken up, on that old recording, on the paraffin reel. Hearing the piece here, it's beautiful, no wonder it filled up such a large concert hall
