Hi Ernest, great video, thanks a lot for that. Just a question: why is the reg piston made of a polymer (Delrin) instead of metal (e.g. brass) like the rest of reg metal parts?

You should make yourself an o ring tool. Just a long pointed piece like a pencil with a hollow base. You can slide multiple o rings down at once. Saves a lot of time and frustration.

Hello Earnest. I just purchased a FX impact X MII with the power plenum to add to my collection, and it came in leaking. I contacted FX USA, and ordered a complete O - ring kit for it. The gun is leaking about 10 bar every 8 hrs. I've stripped the gun down completely expect for the regulator housing piston and regulator adjustment screw. The reason I stripped the gun down completely is because one of the techs at FX USA told me to spray soapy water into the action where the valve rod seat spring ect to check for leaks. Moreover The next day I noticed the valve spring hammer ect was covered in surface rust. Anyway the reason I'm sending you a message is to thank you for your video's they have taught me a ton. Also I was hoping I can buy one of those tools you use to remove the regulator piston? I need to service my FX Crown countiuum as well. I asked FX USA if they can sell me that tool, and they told me they no longer have them. By the way I live in Wilmington nc exactly 1.4 miles from FX USA. It's a small world. Anyway if you for some reason don't have that tool can you suggest how I can make one? Have a wonderful new years sir.

Harold Kennedy: me too. Had my Impact for a few weeks before I realised why it wouldn't hold PoI; turned out to be the screw that holds the picatinny rail on, which had fallen out in transit - the whole picatinny rail was loose. I reported it to FX and just got an excuse, not even an apology or acknowledgement of their shortcomings in not using threadlock. Impact performs superbly, but I have a slow leak identified at the regulator too; probably, a damaged o-ring, but I have yet to disassemble. I should return the rifle under warranty, but I don't have any confidence in their ability to assemble the damn thing properly without damaging the delicate components...they've failed on several fronts already. I also don't want to be without the rifle for several weeks while they fix it, so I'll just do it myself. Component quality seems very good, but assembly, testing and quality assurance leaves a lot to be desired...especially considering the price tag.

I have never tightened my regulator under pressure and yet my regulator rod is ever so slightly bent, and has a ridge in the side of the rod because of that bend. I would suggest that the material is too soft for the amount of pressure that is imparted to it. At over $20 for this part, this is a problem that needs to be addressed.

I don’t think I have the mechanical ability to make some of these repairs. But this is a nice series on how an advanced PCP operates.

Ernest thanks for these videos . But I was wondering if there are any o rings we could use that would be more durable to use in place of the present O rings FX now uses even if they cost more .

I looked up a scuba o-ring chart that covers pressures to 4500 psi , they say the same thing , replace o-rings every few years . It’s the nature of our sport with such high pressures . There are O-ring manufacturing charts that specify certain applications I.e. chemical or high pressure that are better for what we use them for . I have to resign myself PCP’s require more maintenance , you can be reactive to leaks as they arise or proactive and do a full o-ring change . I’m sure someone has a list of all the sizes on a particular PCP so you can shop accordingly. The easiest is to order the kits provided by the manufacturer. One thing that might help on assembly and o-ring longevity would be a lubricant friendly to the specific o-ring you are using , you don’t want a bad chemical reaction between the two . I’m a mechanic by trade and I can tell you first hand it’s important to choose the right o-ring for the application .

Hi Ernest, I currently have a problem with my MK2 Impact its only 5 days only, its very low on power. It has been fine for 5 days and then all of a sudden it lost its power. When you fire a shot you can here the power plenum charge up with are very quick burst of air, this is normal, but power plenum for some reason started to sound very lazy and slow to charge up, what normally is pretty instant is now taken up to a second to charge up, but it still is low on power. Have you any ideas, you have me thinking now about the little hole in the reg that may be blocked, could that be it?

That multi-purpose synthetic grease is not a good idea. It is flamable.
