The beauty! The grace! The Spitfire!

My grandpa flew 26 missions over Germany and occupied France during WWII as a pilot in the B-17 with the 423rd Bomb Squadron, 306 Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force out of Thurleigh, England, and when I asked him on which German aircraft he feared most, he said without hesitation it was the FW-190. He passed in '93. I miss fishing with him and having conversations with him about aviation and the planes he flew.

It’s got huge firepower and is very fast in a straight line and a dive,definitely something to be fearful of. It would not be conducive to good mental health to see one of these with the jump on you at full speed even in a P51 or spitfire.

My great grandad was also a B 17 pilot! He flew around 14 missions before he was shot down in the North Sea. He was the only survivor. They were shot down by a BF 109 if I'm not mistaken, although it may have been a 190.

@@ThatProduceGuy_ It'd probably be quite stressful to see any fighter at all jump at you from above. Whatever it is: a 190, a 109, a Spit or a Mustang, a La or a Yak, you're most likely wasted.

My great grandad trained pilots In the South Pacific for the New Zealand airforce. He was bummed out because he didn’t make it through his schools entrance exam so he couldn’t be be a pilot. He died in 2016

As an aircraft mechanic, I'd just like to say that the P-51 that bent its prop most likely bent the crankshaft, considering the prop stopped spinning (meaning the engine stopped). Fixing that is a full engine rebuild, much more than just replacing the prop

Landing gear would also need to be looked at surely, must have maxed out the suspension travel

@@GrowlingSidewinder If the parts are on site and the mechanics worked 'round the clock, it'd probably take a day or two to fix. That pilot also probably shit his pants. So you can put half a kill mark on the plane ;)

@@plushie946 and if it maxed out the suspension then the excess force had to go somewhere. the entire airframe would need inspection. practically speaking at the frontline of a warzone, that plane is likely scrapped for parts.

Just want to take a moment to appreciate that incredible bomb drop - even with depression tables that stuff ain't easy!

Cool video. Just FYI, a prop strike (on that P-51) is a no go. The engine would probably need replacing, at minimum re-built! Love this IL-2 gameplay.

All your content is awesome but there's a special place in my heart for WWII aircraft and dogfights. I'd love to see more me 262, me163, bf 109. Pretty much any WWII content.

Warbirds are always appreciated. I'd like to see you fly some of the aircraft that aren't as popular. There's plenty of aircraft in IL-2 that we haven't seen you fly like the HS129, The Hornisse, Hurricane, BF110 and some of the Junkers.

Loving the WWII content lately! DCS needs to step up their game on this front. A10 vs Harrier dogfight?

With one of the bomber kills, you see the plane jettison it’s bombs before the crew bails out. So with the bombers that you hit and they exploded, I suppose it’s possible that you were detonating the bomb loads (though with multiple 500 pound bombs, I’d imagine that those things going off inside the bomb bay would turn the plane into confetti).

Love all of your WWII content GS, please keep it coming. Love all the content, but it's great how you mix it up for us. Also really enjoy the little bit of a history lesson you give at the beginning of each video

Aerial combat then is a combination of beauty and tragedy at the same time. Devastating that target aircraft and letting your guns rip him to bits is quite a beauty too, though human lives is indeed lost every time that bullet chew the target aircraft to bits.

Just ordered an HP Reverb G2 and still waiting for my Virpil HOTAS/P.....really looking forward to playing some IL-2 and Star Citizen! And yes! More WWII/Cold War!!

Hey you should check out the P-39 Airacobra. It was considered to be a turd by US and other allies but the Soviet pilots fell in love with it apparently and kicked a lot of ass with it. They had dozens of P-39 aces, some with upwards of 30, 40, 50 victories in it. Its an odd little fighter with car style doors and a fat 37mm canon in the nose. Its only really useful at low altitudes which is why the Soviets liked it as thats where they did most of their fighting.

Loves these! Il2 is so good. How are you getting so much going on in a sortie? Like stumbling on p51's landing etc?

250 and 70 kilogram bombs, not pounds, so almost double the load. At 10:05, it, most likely wasn't the 20mm, but the 30mm, you had mounted in the wings. And BTW, at the beginning you were flying the FW 190 F8, not the A8, and you took off with the flaps in landing position.

Love the fw 190 content

I enjoy you videos tremendously. It's more difficult to see your targets on the 190. A big part of this issue is the screen I must use, as it loses definition, but the sight angle on the 190 appears very low above the top of the instrument panel. I still enjoy the video, though. I'll just watch one of your flights in another virtual warplane if i want a good view of your targets. This is off the 190 topic (and this question is also rhetorical), but what research goes into each plane? Your missions in the P-38 are amazing with all the play that goes into moving the control yoke. Reminds me of driving an old French car with steering about to fail. Fun. To. Watch.
