    I really miss 2007-2012 years, when so many brands were alive. Mission and Reebok, Easton, TPS. Graf made some serious stuff. And now we have Bauer and CCM, both have *two* stick curves at retail.

    While I agree more competition is better, the last statement is not true. Both companies offer two lines, and except for the Tacks line, offer four curves at retail each.

    That is an amazing store! The layout is very organized and clean. You're totally right about the regular shops where it is crowded and not organized well. The local place has taken to tossing lots of things in bins. Need a specific glove; go dig in the bins. Need pants; dig in the pile.

    New and existing hockey stores should follow this model. Hockey gear is expensive, so the experience should follow suit. The shooting range is top notch. I’m just hoping the stick will feel right when I buy. Thanks for the great videos 👍

    In a lot of ways - that store reminds me of the former Bauer Own The Moment Experience up outside Boston. I haven't been there in years, but they had much of the same sleek, modern aesthetic, only sold the latest and greatest Bauer products, and had that "VIP experience" in mind. Where they differ is OTM had a 1/4 or 1/5 size ice rink to test skates and sticks out in - and the head maintenance/gear repair guy was the former AHL San Jose Sharks affiliate equipment manager. Both super cool stores, and places I'd love to check out in person.

    I get that people want to shop online for cost and convenience. But it’s a false economy if you pick the wrong product or the wrong size. I‘d go to a bricks and mortar store 100 times out of 100, as long as it has good service and good selection.

    For sure there is room for other brands in the business and competition is great. However there is always a question of demand and supply. We started off with more brands 15 years ago but soon took the decision to cut them out. Those brands were always on sale and didn't add much to our offer except to much inventory.

    Nice looking store, like the presentation. The shooting area is something every store should have in my opinion with ever more expensive sticks, you should have the opportunity to try them before you buy. Not sure its realistic for them to only carry high end items though, most people are not buying top of the line gear across the board.

  • @vsChandler

    @vsChandler

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the nice comments. We have had the same type of setup in our previous store and we do not only carry high end. For sticks yes but for skates we have at least 3 price points. The same goes for protection. We have cut out the entry level equipment though.

    HockeyGear is an amazing store… and has already been that at their previous location! This new store is a Bauer and CCM temple and it is not correct that they are a 2 brands store. That is only true for Skates, Sticks and Protective! They do carry a bunch of other items like Marsblades, Howies and Atunya the leisure/performance Clothing brand of Stockholm icon Johnny Odoya. They also carry training aids and have a workshop that mounts Marsblades onto your former skate boot and offer the full Prosharp Profiling and Sharpening as you would expect. The important factor is that like in all proper hockey stores here in Sweden, the staff are hockey players, some still playing at higher competitive levels, both the guys and girls, which means that all types of hockey players and complete novice parents get great, competent and astonishingly humble service. You will leave a months salary or two there depending on what you need… but they are just as friendly if you come in for a sharpening or two rolls of tape. What you will not find is entry level skates. They only sell Custom or the top two lines of CCM and Bauer. So unless your teenager plays elite level, it is hard to justify buying their skates there. But when it comes to Protective Gear, they are unbeatable. Top and 2nd level in alla sizes from Youth to Senior, and all the regular colours we need for the Stockholm clubs… and at reasonable prices that are worth the trip and don’t have me Googling. They also have a nice kickback for the parents that they accumulate and use quarterly and if you know your size and fit their Sales are a treasure trove. Luckily not a goalie parent but all of our clubs goalies love their support! And if @hockeytutorial can come back during the season… DIF has been relegated and will meet AIK!!! This will be a Hockey Derby like no other this season

    I can see this working in Canada as well, but with the American retail environment right on their door, where the idea is to be larger than life, it could be really in trouble if the "all products, all brands" showroom came along. Why not showcase more? Why lock a good maker such as Graf out?

    I think that store is awesome, but having only the 2 "big names" is a bit monopolistic to me. Knowing how Bauer isnt the Bauer it used to be, and I guess CCM too, both these two are owned by profit driven conglomerates who prob are also in the same bed. So if these continue to pop up, smaller companies will get weaseled out even tho they may in fact have better equipment offerings and innovation. Plus what gets me is none of this stuff is made in a country that has hockey history, just goes to show that even hockey wasn't immune to the Asian job takeover ...yet the prices are extreme as if you were paying a pro teams seamstress to make equipment for you. Kinda insane really
