Futuristic Shed With Integrated Solar Panels! Time Lapse Construction

Ойын-сауық

Video of a one of a kind futuristic shed with solar panels built into the roof. I designed and built this shed to give me extra room for solar panels. The roof of the shed is comprised of 16 panels that generate about 5kwh of power, which is a significant amount of power. Where I live that would be about 7,700kwh per year. Or in other words, enough to power a Tesla Model 3 over 30,000 miles per year!
Thanks for taking a look and let me know any comments or questions. I have a lot more cool builds, tesla, and solar stuff coming so please subscribe!!

    Wonderful job on your shed looks great. Have to point out micro inverters are expensive, they don't last long and when one fails it is hard to tell which one failed. and if you use software to monitor them it is proprietary so when you have to replace one of these microinverter years from now it wont work with your old software. Best to use a single dedicated grid tie inverter that is easy to work on or replace. Also you have the option to have them charge batteries if you decide to do so. If the grid ever went down These wonderful solar panels with the grid tie inverters won't help you one bit. limited options for solar when one decides on micro inverters. Solar installers push them because it is easy for them to install and move to the next job. Does not mean it is the best option.

    Very nice✅ Did you at any point considder having it so you could rotate it with the sun daily, and adjust the tilt with the seasons, and then maybe automate the entire thing, rather than keep trekking out to adjust it😮

    Don't know how I missed this, but love it! I have been researching and thinking of adding solar for years! Really cool looking design too. 😎

    Thanks, I put a ton of work into the design on that one, because I couldn't find anything similar to copy and modify, so had to start from scratch.

    I was thinking about using the solar panels itself as a roof

    Yeah that's possible, but you would still need a support structure for those and normal solar panels would not create a water tight roof. However, I know there are acrylic solar panels that you can make a water tight roof out of.

    thanks, cool. What kind of panels are those? They look nicer than ordinary solar panels. Makes the overall build look better. Also, what kind of classes did you take? thanks

    Nice build! I checked your other videos looking for the specifics of the system, unfortunately I didn’t find anything. Do you think you’ll still be putting up a video on the specifics of the system? Thanks!

    Hey Joseph, sorry I somehow missed this comment. Yes, I am definitely doing a video on the specs of the system sometime soon. We’re also installing a TeslaWall that I’m excited to do a video on.

    Good evening, I am planning to build the same concept but on a larger scale to utilize animal shed. I would need to build on a 400sqm structure and I would definitely need your support. It could be 4 separate structure of 100sqm each to east the process and control the height.

    Where does the water flow off of roof during rain? I wish to do similar but with gutters and two water barrels to capture rain water. I imagine the rain flows under the panels off the roof, hence gutters would direct the water. Your thoughts?

  • @ModernArtisan

    @ModernArtisan

    Actually my original design included rain water capture and storage, but I abandoned that part of the design at some stage. With my final design rain just runs off the roof under the panels.

    Do you think this would work larger scale for a house? What are the drawbacks of such a plan?

  • @mrowenhorst

    @mrowenhorst

    Жыл бұрын

    Sure but the structural design would be completely different. I was maxing out the spans of dimensional lumber as rafters, so larger and taller would require using different materials or beams, etc.

    @@mrowenhorst U think this design would be better in north texas area? We get a lot of hail so thinking the panels protect roofing?

    Wat a well engineered building. So why didn't you build it so it could rotate daily with the sun and vary it's roof angle with the time of year.

    Is this a grid tied system or battery backup?

  • @ModernArtisan

    @ModernArtisan

    Allen May It is both. It is grid tied and also has 2 TeslaWall batteries. It is bimodal so we can operate on or off grid. I will do another video on specifics of the system.
