Building the Ultimate Garden Shed Power Station: Solar Panel Roofing and Leak Test

Welcome back guys this is the second video in my garden shed power station build series.
In this episode I install the ply bracing, insulation, wall wrap and the solar panels.
I am doing things a bit differently and am actually using the solar panels as the roof sheets, this way I can avoid buying roof battens, roof sheeting, solar panel mounting brackets All while providing a much more flush and streamlined look.
I perform a leak test aswell to see if they keep the water out.
Hope you enjoy guys.

For the exposed concrete "deck" preferable to cut that flush with the wall and have a drainage gap... or cast it separately with a gap. Or a good slope to it with the caulk and flashing as it was done ...as a lesser choice,

Totally agree mate, I mentioned that in my first episode, but I appreciate the comment, thanks!

cut it close up the top and then maybe router using a flush trim bit?

Nice job! Question: Why did you not tilt the roof slightly towards the sun, it will increase the yield and will aid in keeping the panels clean, and it will make you send the water to one side where you can use a gutter to collect the water to send it into a storage bin.

Hi Melvin, it is on a 2.5 degree pitch towards the sun. Didn't want to pitch it too much as I can only have 2.4m max height so would lose head height internally the more I pitch it. All the water runs to the back, where I will likely put a gutter at some point. Cheers

@@griffinsgetaway that explains it as the angle is hard to see, I have a setup where I use Solitek Solrif frames for the roof on my garden house. They need to be angled from 20 degrees to work as they overlap each other. How much kWh will you expect annually?

@@melvindevries_nl nice I looked solitek up, looks like a great product. I am hoping for around 10kw/h a day on average. I currently have 6.6kw of solar on my house roof and am getting around 25kw/h in winter and up to 40kw/h in summer per day on that system.

@@griffinsgetaway wow, so much yield in winter! Here we drop to almost zero and I have +- 15kWp in panels albeit in three different directions.

Yeh we get a lot of sun in winter here, its mostly sunny cloudless days. I will do a video in future once its all set up and will discuss how much output I end up getting.

What if one used rubber t gasket to seal gaps? Silicon for good measure?

hi mate, yeh I did consider that, that would probably work well, but in the end just decided to use silicon, so will see how it fares over tiime. cheers
