Therian is short for therianthropy or therianthrope. Theri= animal, anthro=man. Therians can have "shifts" but not all do. All therians understand that they cannot physically shift and are not physically an animal, they know they are physically human. Therians are a category that fall under otherkin. Otherkin is anyone who identifies as non human. This includes therians, mythkin, fictionkin, plankin, etc. Not all therians are spiritual, some are psychological and not all therians have a connection with their theriotype. Her theriotype is a rabbit. He psychologically identifies as a hawk. She spiritually identifies as a fish. Lucy is a therian.

Replace all mentions of furries with lgbt and you know what she's actually talking about.

Yeah, I've seen this story twice now and it's so thinly veiled it's not even funny. This is to strum up BS about trans people and bathrooms again. Anyone remember when gay marriage was in debate and a common slippery slope argument that said if they legalize it, there will be calls to legalize marrying animals? Same concept with this: offer up a ridiculous scenario and claim it's the same thing as the actual proposal. "If we let trans people into their preferred bathroom, we might as well put litterboxes in them for furries!" It's all in the wording too: 'identifies as a furry'? Come on now. Now whether the idiot who originally spread the story was trolled into believing it or not is pretty irrelevant as now the reason it went viral is because it's a useful tool.

Im a furry and live in michigan. When I told my parents they talked about this exact schoolboard meeting, I'm pretty sure they think that I identify as an animal when in reality I just like the cosplay, at least they didn't think I was a zoophile (hopefully).

It was supposed to be in the unisex bathroom too. she could've just looked. she heard a wild rumor from a student, and rather than checking if it was true herself or asking any member of the staff if it was true she just immediately made it everyone's problem.

I mean, to be fair, if I genuinely belived that they were putting litteboxes in schools for furries, I would have a similar reaction.

I'm a therian and furry too, I find the idea of litter boxes in schools to be gross. Knowing my school, all the pick me girls would be in the bathroom talking sh!ts in there as a joke, but would still claim that the therians/furries of the school we're the ones using it instead

As someone who grew up in Michigan public schools... it's pretty bad. moved from school to school cause they kept closing, for some reason I went to a school to prepare me for middle school (Wich is supposed to prepare you for highschool) and it was a single grade school, just 6th graders. I barely learned any cursive, moved, was told it wasn't necessary, moved again, was told it's all I'm allowed to write in. Then there's the food, from dominoes day old unsold pizza to literally moldy food. They kept loosing my dyslexia papers in the same damn school for 3 years somehow, and, in highschool, it was extremely common to be locked out of the school, FOR 2 HOURS IN MICHIGAN WINTERS, before they let all of the kids in, my sister got so mad one day she called the principal and threatened her to let us all in early, the busses couldn't hold us cause they had other schools to buss for, so most the time we just huddled like penguins and waited to be let in

No surprise that republicans would go after furries, seeing as how many of us are not straight and there's a clear connection between the bathroom issue and this.

Just to give some perspective to this, to my knowledge, there were litter boxes installed in a school somewhere for someone's service animal! And transphobic and ableist people thought that this was for people who "identified as cats" it is commonly known transphobic retoric that if they let us start "choosing" out genders, then soon enough people will start identifying as animals, this same retoric was used against gay people before as well. This same transphobic retoric IS used against furries, but it's more focused on trans folks than anything.

I have a friend that goes to the school this mostly started at and I watched it play out, all of my friends found this really funny while I found it really disgusting and I felt bad for any younger furries that went there, although her school is quite open to lgbt and stuff. I feel relief knowing that I am not the only one that found this a little concerning.

The way he did the Krusty The Clown laugh after taking a bite of that lemon just has me grinning like an idiot.

Lesson: don’t eat ungrown lemons

"Why isn't the transphobia being handled instead?" Because (and yall probably already know this) the parents/leaders are transphobic as well. I go to a school with heavy transphobia, homophobia, Karen teachers/principles, and mean kids. I'm a furry, and most people here know that, because I'm known as the "art kid" and they actually enjoy seeing my work. It's rarely been a problem (TRUST me I've dealt with furry bullying, but it has gotten better), however my mom told me about this the other day as if it was gospel. I asked her for her sources, and she, of course, said Facebook. No matter how hard you try to explain common sense to some people, it just won't compute. I'm still making fursuits and such, which makes her a bit upset, but I think the fire is finally dying down because the truth that this is ridiculous has finally reached its way to her. Goes to show that the only people who have ever had a problem with my, and others harmless hobby, is ignorant people.

And another thing, having to do with furry bullying, when I first discovered the fandom, I was pretty young (middle school-ish) and I told my friends about it immediately cause again, I love art and thought it was cool. That day I was shut out of my friend group and they started rumors I was a zoophile. I bet you all my money that's exactly what happened here. Some kid enjoying their interest until some other stupid kid comes along and ruins it. Such a shame.

Honestly, while I sit here and think "how could someone believe something so stupid", I remember the classmates of mine that would make up reasons to harass and bully me. Especially the not-so-bright preppy folks that thought they were better than everyone; I can clearly recall the way they'd say something about me, the fake 'jump' in shock and the cackling, dirty looks, disgust. Those same atrocious people are out there reproducing, and they'd be exactly the type of Karen to pull something like this. smh It'll take at least a few generations of people before the furry community is genuinely 'accepted' at least to a point of not having this dumb drama I'd think.

I think this is more connected to kids meowing at teachers and saying they identify as cats stuff going on in schools right now more than a jab at transphobia. The teachers just looked up someone identifying as a cat and furries poped up for all we know.

Several months later, and some people still believe that this was real. I was having a conversation about Morrissey, and this got brought up out of nowhere. The staying power of stuff like this is incredible.

So I think the reason it took a month for the superintendent to reply to the issue, is because he likely thought that nobody would _actually_ be dumb enough to believe that they put litter boxes in the bathrooms. Therefore, he thought he wouldn't even need to send out a statement debunking the accusation. Boy, did he underestimate people's stupidity lol Honestly, the fact that _anyone_ on the school board took this person's claim seriously is actually embarrassing. I know that it's more than likely a poor attempt at veiled transphobia, but the fact that they even humored the accusation means that the school board is an actual joke. (not that it wasn't before, but you get what I'm saying)

I'm a furry. My dad found out about the litter box in schools thing and believed it and went up to me and asked "Hey, you don't have any of those weird *furry* friends at school do you..?" I lied but I do. Also, he knows I'm a furry and I guess he said it's alright after he showed me a furry hunting "joke" on KZread. I still love him tho, I mean he believed that he was a werewolf when he was around my age. Also as a therian, it's basically a spiritual thing with animals, same with otherkin. It's basically a belief around animals, tho not a religion those who are confused. They know they're people. Many have different beliefs. For example, I believe I was a feline in a past life. Some practice vocals and such or wear tails, ears, or masks to get into that feeling. No, we don't crap in litter boxes, same with furries.. that would be uncomfy. I'm new to this therian thing and if I get anything wrong, please tell me. And if you wanna be an animal, you do you. Technically, we are animals. We classify as mammals.

There is literally a video of her scrolling through news articles about her rant with her saying "I'm grateful for the people who reached out and asked me about it, but I'm disappointed ... how fake news is made. I was not fired,"
