Fun fact George Lucas adores Mel brooks therefore he gave his permission to make spaceballs. The special effects are done by ILM. That’s why the movie looks so good.

My favourite line from Darth Helmet- "What's the matter Colonel Sanders? Chicken?" Absolutely brilliant, and absurd that Brooks named a whole character for that one gag 😂😂😂

Dark Helmet's entrance is executed in hilarious fashion. I like how the mystique slowly goes away with each passing second. My favorite shot is when he's walking and the camera pans to reveal he's way shorter than his subordinates and the face reveal at the end is perfect.

Mel made some of best comedies ever... Space Balls, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstien... All true classic cinimatic gold...

Young Frankenstein was actually Gene Wilder's movie. The company just got Mel Brooks involved because they didn't think Gene Wilder's name would draw as much of an audience. This is why Young Frankenstein is the only Mel Brooks film in which he does not appear.

ILM outdid themselves for that long shot. It's just the longest model they ever made, in all likelihood. No one can look at that sequence for the first time and comment on how long it is. Clearly someone is compensating.

Dark Helmet's desert helmet is pure comedic genius.

That John Hurt cameo was pure genius!
1:05 bro went from botanist who almost got eaten by alien plant, to space lord who probably conquered a bunch of aliens, all in 1 year, a true inspiration 😌
Fun Fact: I watched "Spaceballs" at the age of eleven. I didn't watch "Star Wars" until I was twenty-six. 2:27 - Michael Winslow, who was also known for his role of Larvell Jones in the "Police Academy" series of films.

The puppet itself is BEYOND hilarious. The high-kick mechanisms, the ridiculously expression-ful face and arm with the hat. It's perfect.
This movie so funny. All the references and parody elements just make it a joy to watch.

My friends and I were grown men when we saw this, and believe me the "alien" breaking into Warner Bros mode made us laugh so hard that everyone else in the theater was laughing at US!
I remember going to watch this at the cinema with my Dad not expecting a comedy but rather a Star Wars clone movie. Everyone in the theater thought there was something wrong with the movie reel.. I mean how long can a spaceship be! That intro will sit with me to the end of my days, LOL.
I absolutely love the constant breaking of the 4th wall

I saw this with my grandma in the movie theater back in the day. We were literally dying when Darth Helmet flew to the cockpit of the ship after breaking from ludicrous speed. And dying harder when it was played in fast forward later on.

spaceballs has got to be the funniest comedy movie ever. every joke i laugh it.
If this was a complete funny moments reel, then the video would just be the entire movie.

The greatest Star Wars parody ever along with the Robot Chicken Star Wars specials.
Spacballs and Galaxy Quest are high quality movies on their own. Even if they're parodies, they went a step further.

Lucas gave permission and resources to Brooks to make this movie on one condition, no merchandising! Thus the scene about spaceball merchandising @5:45.
The stunt double one was genius

I have the original DVD of Mel Brooks' "SPACEBALLS" which I keep with my other Mel Brooks movies on DVDs. What is hilarious is that it is a total send-up of the entire Sci-Fi genre. I would have put it in with my Star Wars DVDs instead, but I thought that that was a bit too much.

I had the DVD too (got a second copy as a present and donated one to the local library to spread the laughter), I remember the menu said "Spaceballs The DVD" and that was enough to send me😂
