I feel this! I watched the crash documentaries for a few years because they were so morbidly interesting. Yet they then created such fear in me I’m still scared to fly. Honestly while that was absolutely hilarious, as a controller in training I'm quite pissed at the controller there, it's 100% his fault, his hearback was non existent, the Air France pilot readback what she thought she heard, and he didn't correct her, he's 100% in the wrong and has no right to be snippy with her.
@Xn2th3blue
2 жыл бұрын
@@axel995r a trainee has a thought! With your years of experience, you would undoubtedly have a very valid opinion such as that one. 🤣 The pilot is in the wrong here on several accounts, and I'll tell you why. Pay attention, you might learn something: ICAO requirements are that all air crew and ATC speak and understand fluent English, no matter where you are in the world, but that pilot sounds like she's not very well versed in English and shouldn't be flying as it is unsafe. She additionally did not hear correctly or clarify what the controller said if she was unsure. Your time as a trainee should have already taught you by now that the pilot is the aircraft commander and something like this, such as a pushback which is on an apron, AKA the non-movement area, AKA not the responsibility of the controller, falls on the pilot and grounds crew that is assisting with the pushback. In fact, pilots don't need to call ground for a pushback, most do just as a courtesy. Kind of a "heads-up, I'll be needing taxi instructions shortly" thing. Furthermore, the pilot should already have had the ATIS, therefore should know the active runway, and therefore should know which way she'll need to be facing to taxi to the correct runway. This is all on her.
@axel995r
2 жыл бұрын
@@Xn2th3blue @Eric haha o wow, I really don't know how you yanks do things over there but here in Europe half the things you just said would end up with someone getting their damn license suspended, either the pilot or the controller... btw being a trainee actually means that I'm more familiar with the letter of the law then most experienced controllers, because I've been studying it like crazy recently, but that's beside the point, and the point is, o boy where do I start, ok first of all, the controller has the absolute obligation to do a HEARBACK as you clearly don't know what that is, I'll explain, pilots are human beings who make mistakes, especially when listening to something over the radio which can sometimes have less then perfect readability, and it's absolutely the controllers duty to hear what the pilot repeats and correct them if they are wrong (this is clearly written in chapter 13 of ICAO document 4444, which is also known as the controllers bible, something I'm sure you know as such an experienced controller), so that's the first thing that you said which is just hilariously incorrect, second start-up and pushback on most airports means the aircraft will absolutely enter the ATC area of responsibility and thus has to get approval from ATC to do so (which seems to be the case here as well otherwise the pilot would not have asked the controller which way to face), and even if it doesn't the pilot still has to ask ATC for permission for several reasons, again as such an experienced controller I'm sure you already know this but I'll say it for everyone else: 1) the controller needs to activate the flight plan in the system so that it becomes visible to the terminal control unit and all other relevant units (this is the case in Europe at least with the TopSky radar system might not be in the US) 2) the pilot is absolutely not allowed to start-up without a valid flight plan (i.e. if the EOBT expired or the flight got suspended by the system for whatever reason) and ATC had the most up to date info regarding this, and lastly I don't know what kind of a cowboy show you yanks run over there but if I pilot calls the controller on any European airport ready for taxi, without any prior contact he will absolutely be getting a nice fat report out of it, come to think of it my instructor did write one to a Yank a couple of days ago, a gen aviation plane just called ready for taxi without requesting startup, so that might be the norm over there but here for that you're getting a report. And lastly knowing the active runway absolutely does not mean you will always pushback in a certain direction, I've had planes from adjacent stands push back tail to tail to avoid one having to wait for the other in case one is slower during startup procedure, which meant that one of the planes was pushed back in the less logical direction. So please if you want to try and sound smart on the internet try with something that's not this well defined and that doesn't have such clearly written rules and instructions because to anyone who knows anything about ATC you just sound like a complete moron. And if need be I'll prove it with the actual paragraphs from official ICAO documents.

Hahaha I feel the warm glow of satisfaction as this KZread video has confirmed a suspicion I’ve had for awhile. So in one of the many aviation videos I’ve watched, somewhere along the way I found out that the radio transmit function and the PA function shares a switch. Now I don’t know if it’s in every airliner but it is in the 747 and I remember thinking…. “Wouldn’t the pilots sometimes forget which side the switch is flipped on?” And now I know I was right.
