I think it handled the load just fine!!! This brings back memories of how the people use to overload the S.Q.'s back in the 70's at the laundromat where i use to work and then want their money back because they complained that their clothes didn't come clean enough!!! I even had one woman who put two bedspreads and one pair of kids pants in the washer and during the first spin the kids pants got sucked out into the outter tub and during rinsing the machine flooded all over the floor because the pump was blocked with the pants!!! She came to the office and demanded her 50 cents back because the cycle couldn't finish and I told her are you kidding me??? it's gonna cost us $65.00 to have the repairman come out and fix the machine, NO WAY!!! These machines are built strong to last long that's why this machine is still running today!!! Thanks for the terrific video Eugene and have a great day!!!

The way that these old solid tub/overflow washers use to drain and ramp up to spin so fast is such a great illustration of fun with physics that you can almost see Leonard and Sheldon demonstrating how it’s achieved.

@@alecvip7562 I've had MANY direct drive machines, well used should I say and my parents owned 2 growing up, but I dont think it would. They do a great job cleaning, I wont disagree there at all, but I think this oldie but goodie will clean better due to the longer strokes pulling the fabric through the water more "aggressively" with the longer strokes, in turn it will "pull" the water through the fabric better. That's what cleans and the soap breaks down, and dissolves the funk.

@@ericpippen7915 On the other hand you have the direct drives which keep the loads rolling and more even cleaning. The clothes closest to the agitator in this vid are in that wash zone too long and getting the beating of their life . Rollover doesn't seem to be a strong suit of Speed Queens when fully loaded . Only talking about the solid tub washers here. Honestly though I would take a Raytheon made machine or an alliance built machine over this . I already have a 2013 Speed Queen and it is a great modern classic.

During the spin drain... right back to the 50's models there is that famous "sucking" sound that comes from seems like under the Agitator just as the tub is almost empty. Great Machine but still like the Clanging Solenoids that jump from wash into spin. Great Find and nice restore.

I love these machines, they were designed to do a job well. BTW, when I grew up in Europe during the 60s and 70s, front load (horizontal axis) washers used a ton of water and they cleaned and rinsed far better than anything that is on the market today. 40 years ago standard washer capacity in Europe was 4.5 to 5 kg (9.9 to 11 lbs) dry weight. These machines used between 33 and 39 gallons of water per cycle. I've been using Speed Queen for over thirty years now and wouldn't buy anything else.

My moms last SQ of this era in 1979 did have a separate more conventional water control with infinite water levels that did not overflow on the initial fills, but it would still would do the overflow rinse on the tale end of the wash cycle. Her’s was a loaded set and had more speed options and actually had the same color scheme on the control panel in harvest gold a deep stainless steel tub and they actually had a more shallow tub on budget models. Hers also had the fabric softener option. This one will need a the matching agitator top for that fabric softener option. But my moms just needed a tub new seal with some very aggressive water issues being the culprit for that in 1998 and new belts. A failed timer in the mid 80’s was all her SQ washer ever needed and it was still going until the motor burned out a few years ago. Her first SQ from the late 60’s always solenoid burnouts every few years common problems with that era for many manufactures.

Jerome Davis three belts a stationary transmission and fluid drive with a beefy pump a damn tank I tell yah!!! It was industrial stuff period. Pretty serviceable from the front. If you had to pull the transmission the left side of the washer needed to be removed. There wasn’t a lot of drama to repair them if needed. Control panel just unscrewed and tipped forward in a very serviceable and commercial way. It just felt good working them even back then the gauge of metals and steals were way better than even the box store stuff of that era. It was very much built like a Amana radar range microwave was of that era. They were Just made for commercial use period! The SQ- Raytheon versions are ok just not quite the same in terms of build quality. But I get why that had to change!

@@musicnerd72 my LG front loader does a pretty amazing job at cleaning and we get our clothes FUNKY. We have grease, motor oil, gas, and all those other types of horrible stains, really bad ones I pretreat no matter what style/type of machine it is, and I fill that sucker to its limits and sometimes over it and it cleans them without any problems. Mine has a water heater in it, so if it is a load where I need the extra heat to help get those greasy stains out I use that option. I will say it does take a LOT longer to wash, but compared to the 3.5 cu/ft tubes, I can wash 3 of the loads those machines will handle in 1 load, so I guess time wise it would be about the same. I just HATE folding that much laundry at once. Will make your arms hurt and numb hahahahahahahahahahaha.

Sharkie626 an inefficient design yes. Being dumb is a bit of a stretch that’s just how they were built for commercial use. The newer machines after 1980 did not hold up as well commercially because they were cheaper machines to build. There’s no spinning transmission in this washer which in later machines became helical drives and thus more catastrophic failures occurred in commercial use. Solid tub tit for tat on that, but it has suffered no damage after 40 years.
