    One way to save. I take my bread ends through out the year and put them in a zip lock bag up in the freezer. By the time Thanksgiving comes I have plenty saved for stuffing to make from scratch.

    This is my first time watching. I am absolutely impressed by your beautiful girls. They are so great at being in front of the camera, and so adept at cooking at such a young age - you’re raising them to be naturals in the kitchen! My mama hated anyone hanging around her kitchen and she’d shoo me outside. I really wish she’d taught me her skills.😢

    What a great job! I remember last year's meal and this one looks just as tasty! If you were truly needing to reduce your costs a whole chicken also works well. When my husband was growing up his mom was on a tight budget and always roasted a chicken.He actually preferred it, saying the meat was more moist. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Especially i was astounded you kept to script, rolled your trolley, calculated every cent comparing prices n choosing to walk out with a lone orange from the first store! Even more that you actually showed the recipes. The spread was awesome. Your daughters were gorgeous n came across as pretty professional. Lotsa love to your lovely family.

So many videos'll add up the cost per serving instead of the total amount of money you actually have to spend. This is really good. Some ideas I would like to add if that’s ok…. I have in the past bought and froze or hid one or two things or two months leading up to a holiday. To save on the turkey, I have roasted a chicken or a turkey breast instead. One could also ch check the price on ham. If someone is baking challenged, they could get pumpkin and cake mix and do pumpkin cake. Again , this is good stuff! I had fun watching

    This is the first time I’ve seen your page, I really enjoyed watching you shop to save money and you did a great job! I wanted to let you know you can make whole milk using 1 can if evaporated milk and mix it with 1&1/2 cans of water ( use can to measure ) 2% milk would be 1 can evap. Milk snd 2 cans of water ! My momma taught me this I’m 73 yrs old and have used this milk tip all my life and always keto extra cans of evap. Milk in my pantry just for when I need milk because I don’t drink milk !! You can also use frozen French fries to make mashed potatoes just boil them until tender ( about 10-15 minutes from frozen ) and mash them up and use your butter and milk , S&P and delicious mashed potatoes , also when your short on butter make up the difference with oil your food will have the butter flavor and you’ll have the amount of butter/oil you need for your recipe , I do it all the time ti save on butter since butter along with everything else has become so expensive ! I love you that you include your children when cooking they learn to love cooking and they make memories with you in the kitchen ! Y’all made a delicious budget friendly meal all homemade with love !! I hope y’all have a blessed Thsnksgiving surrounded by loved ones!! God bless 🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈

    Do a turkey breast my mom told me that they don't eat the whole turkey but if your feeding a big family that the way to go is a whole turkey. My mom went with turkey breast this year they got 3 of them. But I guess it depends on we're your buying them. Happy Thanksgiving. 😊

    Thankfully we live in a tiny town and all of those stores are right beside each other, if we make the trip into town to shop it’s not much more to go to all three. I did the calculations and we spent an added 11 cents in fuel by going to three stores instead of one. Staying at a single store would have blown our $25 goal, but not by much. (certainly by more than 11 cents tho) It was a fun challenge for us, thanks for watching.

    How do you account for taxes in the $25 and the flour?

  • @FromtheRootsUp

    @FromtheRootsUp

    7 ай бұрын

    We didn't include the tax rate simply because it's different everywhere... and some states don't charge tax on groceries at all (Not Oklahoma, but it would be nice.) Just like we can't account for how far different people have to drive or how different someone's MPG in their car would be. The goal was really to show we can take a slim budget and create a nice full meal. (we can't even make through an average fast food drive thru for the 4 of us for $25.) And yes, we already had flour... we decided some basic staples were ok to just have (also salt and pepper.)

    Yeah... understandably some folks in larger cities would have a harder time visiting multiple locations but it's not a problem for us. Actually the gentleman that left his quarter in the shopping cart at Aldi would have covered our gas if we had taken it LOL... but we left it for the next customer. Thanks for watching!
