Man you have done it. Very brave. Great job. Really enjoyed your video being an apple fan.
I never comment. But you saved me, thank you and keep the good work. Best wishes
Great video.
I just picked up a MacBook pro myself or Max and you got nuts dude seriously big cojones.
Excellent
nice video mate
Very good bro👍👍
Just if people need to disconnect battery in case of water damage, etc. That long flex cable is for the touchpad. The wide short one underneath it, with the screw holding it down, is the battery connector.
Excellent video although I'd never even think about tearing down my M2 16 Pro Max
This is NOT the battery connection terminal. it is the Trackpad Connection Flex. the Battery Connector is below it
well done

Literally more useful than the ifixit video. Thank you!
Would you be able to share the screw driver set you used for this.
Now this is a real teardown, thanks for putting in the effort! It's disappointing to see how hard it is to just change the thermal paste... very curious what that thick black RAM paste is.
@elevatecomputing6004

Haha thank you! I filmed the first video an hour after getting my new M1 Pro MacBook so I wanted to enjoy it a little before potentially jeopardizing it. The heatsink was flush straight across and the ram dies sat about a millimeter below the metal APU die so it must be a special type of paste to fill the gap. Can't imagine it's that efficient at heat dissipation though.

Were you able to do any benchmarks before and after to see if the better thermal paste and application were noticeable? @@simonmales217 it seemed to come off like a thick paste when they took off the heatsink. there must be some reason it was there though, it would have been easier during manufacturing to put the same paste on all 3 dies.

How are the thermals after messing with that thermal compound?
Where is the SSD placed? Can it be upgraded?
Brilliant breakdown - thanks so much for posting this
Thans for the video. Will open it and tighten or loosen the hinge void the warranty?
wow the screws light up when unscrewed.
Excellent man👍....u must collaborate with ifixit🔥
So the "MacBook Pro" in the back is stamped. The cover is too thin to mill the letters as it is made from the aluminum sheet.
mine also wont turn back on X.x which flex cable was causing the issue for you? btw great video very informative thanks a ton!
Thanks for the teardown, i'm wondering what the electric screwdriver is?
Not sure if the ssd can be upgraded, the slots are there, problem is T2 chip
do you have any link to the electric screw driver, please ?
For that hex, you need something smaller than 4mm. I bought 4mm and it’s too big for the hex
Wow! Could you share the hub link on Amazon?
Is it easy to remove & replace the built in Camera? Mine is working with issues, whenever I access an app that uses it, the screen starts flickering and the macbook reboots.
hmmm... It is more difficult to clear the fans than the previous macbook pro. the previous MBP's fan can be removed very easily without disassembling the motherboard.
Dissembling macbook pro is just onother level technicians
Do you think the battery would be able to be replaced in the future or is this macbook pro built like my old 15inch 2016 Macbook pro which meant you would have to replace the entire top case of the laptop just for a battery?
I did’ t see the usb-c hub. What is the link on Amazon?
I would never suggest folding those ribbon cables like he did on the track pad cable at the start to get it out of the way. that was way too tight of a bend. and using metal tweezers to unplug connectors is not smart, yes I know the battery is not connected but unless you hold the power button several times after disconnecting the battery some caps still have a charge and can easily fry stuff if you bridge the wrong pins.
Hello. I want to apply thermal pad onto the SoC. How big is the gap between the SoC and the bottom cover?
Where was the NVME drive at? Also I’m pretty sure the black pads are graphene based reusable thermal pads. Thanks for the tear down.
@elevatecomputing6004
2 жыл бұрын
That would be very cool if that’s the case, figured graphene would be too expensive for Apple to voluntarily use
@elevatecomputing6004
2 жыл бұрын
Also, there is no NVME drive, but at the corners of the motherboard on the side closest to the battery there are banks of 4 NAND Chips. The memory is soldered directly to the board.
Where is the Ram? Thanks
Disappointed you stopped when you did. I’m looking at removing the keyboard after a spill. I’m thinking such accidents are more common than replacing battery for example.
im worried about crushing the battery. the bottom casing looks very thin and flimsy and i usually just pick up the laptop with one had on either side of the trackpad and im scared that too much force in those areas will squeeze the batteries as the batteries are in that area. how strong is the bottom plate?
It's so backwards to see how you have to remove the motherboard to be able to remove the fans.
Not cool that you need to remove completely the logic board to replace the thermal paste. On the previous versions you could do this with simply removing a few screws.
What screwdriver is that?
Hey, new subscriber here. I have a question, how do you expose the keyboard? I spilled just some tea in this same version and now my keys are sticking. It wasn't very much, so it didn't cause any damage, its just annoying. IT like to get in there and clean it out. any suggestions?
That was scary. I wonder why the 14" max isn't heavier than the 14" pro then. It must have the same die and heat sink.
@elevatecomputing6004
2 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that apple either doesn't post the exact weights or there is just a larger heatsink that is standardized on all 14 inch models
These are liquid graphene thermal pads on RAM chips. they kind of used a similar ones in the "air"'s. I think it can be replaced with ordinary liquid thermal pads, because these looks too thick
@federicovalmassoni3827
Жыл бұрын
Are there graphene into the M2 models too?
What brand is that screw driver?
Those are thermal pads on the rams and they are totally reusable. U should have added slightly more thermal paste.
What is the big wire coil near the front? A lot of space dedicated to something! No one mentions it.
@stevewalters6003
2 жыл бұрын
That is the haptic engine for the trackpad.
Nice, I just don't get how people just remove the bottom cover and call it teardown... P.S.: For the RAM that black thing is probably not a thermal paste but a thermal insulator, that the heat from the IHS is not transfered back to the memory IC's, as they needed that bigger surface to transfer the heat to the heatpipes on the other side, and also the big IHS to soak a bit more of heat from CPU/GPU die
@bits2646
2 жыл бұрын
@Televisjon It doesn't make much difference if it's insulated or uncovered at all, I'd just scrape (carefully, it looks like it's from very soft alu, it scrapes easily with plastic spudger already), and would only cover the SOC die with thermal paste and leave the RAM uncovered..
Looks like RAM can be added, albeit not traditionally

I wanna see the display assmebly. I'm wondering if Apple put in the notch cuz the mini led is too thick and camera module too big that they had to choose a notch instead of a hole punch.
wow, apples cooling solution for the m1 series of chips doesnt look to be that much better than the cooling on other macbooks with intel. it would be interesting to see what a lot of thermal paste would do to the thermals of the computer. m1 pro by itself doesn't even throttle at idle fans so it is irrelevant but in hotter climates it would help.
@dayjeremy
Жыл бұрын
The M1 processors use far less power than Intel chips do. That results in less heat and less need for a ton of cooling capacity. This is why the M1 MacBook Air models as well as the M1/M2 iPads do not have active cooling.

So many tiny screws and tiny ribbon cables and adhesive
Please don't take this personal, but you really know shockingly little about the connections inside a MacBook, to make this kind of a video. So allow me to correct one grave mistake in your explanation: The first connector, you removed, is NOT for the battery! It is instead just for the trackpad and it's haptic feedback. The battery is connected with two separate connectors, the one with the wide T5 screw in it for power and the small flat flex going over that screw for communication. You removed the battery communication connector second, which is good, since disconnecting this will actually shut off the output of the battery. However, you did so using a metal tool right on its pins. This is a big No-No! Your Logic Board and especially this connector do still have power on them at this point. So this is the one and only connector, you should NOT be using a metal tool on. After disconnecting this connector, you can safely remove the main power connector of the battery (the one with the T5 screw in it), as you did. For you and everyone else, who is every working on a Macbook like this: Be aware, that the first connector, you have to remove, is indeed the trackpad connector, as done here. But the board still has power until you remove the second small connector underneath it. Until you have removed that, you should NEVER use any metal tool near your logic board. That would be far more important than the whole ESD-part. I don't have the schematic for this board and don't know, what signals are actually on the battery communication connector and how they might be protected, , but you might very well have destroyed your battery and/or charging circuit by shoving this metal tool between the pins there, if you were at little bit less lucky.
What screwdriver is that?
