Just upgraded from an intel i9 2.3 64GB 2TB 16" to an M3 Max 64GB 2TB 16". Cost a penny but also saved a lot by buying thru Apple Refurb store. You save 15% on products that are basically new, with the same Apple warranty and ability to add AC+. I really don't know why more content creators like yourself don't push the Apple Refurb options front and centre. As I type this there are base MBPs on the refurb site for £1439 as opposed to the £1699 "new". Even M2s on there.

I had a 14-hour flight a few days ago and I had my Macbook Air 15" version with me as my media center companion. I used it with 50% brightness and it still had 35% battery when we landed! I have bought recently a base model M1 air (a last batch with discounts) and happy with it since it is my first macbook ever. Base model because I have beefy powerful windows laptops to do my work and I have never used macos before (new). I use it only for simple things and watching stuff/browsing before sleep. Selling point for me: 8 gb ram is trully enough for basic thing and small office work, fanless (dead silent), excellent battery, farily good screen (a bit worse than OLED but still very decent), and most importantly a solid milled aluminium block chassis which feels goooooooood, thus there is almost no keyboard flexing. Excellent purchase I would say.

I got a great deal on an M2 MacBook Air from eBay for £750 and couldn't be happier. I still think the best way is to sell your old tech and upgrade for less. These M series MacBooks are so powerful that most people will be happy with an M1 MacBook Air. I just wish they would start setting 16GB as standard. I bet it's the first thing people upgrade when buying new.

Totally agree, I got a refurbished M3 pro with 18G, and the RAM is 100% the bottleneck on these machines (but it is still difficult to hit max RAM). M1 vs M3 doesn't matter, all blow the best intel laptops out of the water. Coming from windows, I am amazed and happy every day when I open my macbook. Enjoy it, and upgrade several years when it finally shows its age (compared to windows where I would upgrade every 3 years or so)

My budget is under $500, and I don't mind whether it's a Mac Mini or a MacBook, however i do prefer a Laptop. What would you recommend for good repairability and upgradability? PS: I've never used a MacBook before, only repaired them. My current editing setup is an RX 7800XT with a 7800X3D. How will the editing performance compare if I switch to a Mac as my primary/secondary mobile editing rig?

Hi, thank you for the informative video! I m looking to get a Macbook but I m not sure about the storage size. My view point is that I don t want to invest into Icloud storage space as these are available only online and I would like to have the photos/ videos and memories offline in the same amazing quality as they were taken. At the same time, I could be taking an external storage space and save them there, but I wonder if the quality stays the same and if the Live photos/ 4k videos keep the same file type. If I m paying that much for a device that can show this quality then I do not want to lose it while I store it. I hope you guys get my questions, maybe somebody tested this and could help me with some advice? Thank you in advance!

The main reason I would choose a Mac over Windows is battery life. My base MB Air M2 is used for 2-3 hours daily, and I do not need to charge it for four days. In standby, it sips about 2% in 24 hours (tested), and when I open it, it is ready to go; I find most Windows laptops have either shut down or some form of hibernation. The Windows machines last less than half a long, which is a pain, so your battery health will degrade twice as fast. My M1 MB Pro 13 is 3.5 years old and still at 98% (I only charge 90% as that is enough for 12+ hours SOT!). As this video implies, the MB Air is powerful enough for most ultrabook users, and the base M3 is an absolute bargain at around £1040 (Amazon). Most people will find 8GB of RAM more than enough, especially for browsing, office work, social media, watching videos, etc. People complain about the upgrade costs, but if you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, you see that Apple offers a premium product at a very reasonable price for that demographic with those base models. Their 16GB/512GB MB Airs are similar in price to nearly every Windows premium ultrabook (XPS 14, Galaxy Book4Pro, LG GRAM 14, Surface Laptop 6, etc). So it is a bit of a misnomer about the upgrade costs for the base to 16GB/512GB, more a misunderstanding of basic demand-side economics.

Hi, which Apple computer do you think is best for programs such as ArchiCAD, where most of the work is done by designing in 3D? The M3 Pro or Max is already comparable to the old multi-core Intel processors with powerful Nvidia GPUs, or do I still have to wait? Right now I'm using an M1 Max Studio with 64 GB RAM and when working in 3D it can get muddy, sometimes it even seems less smooth than my old PC ;)

Still, it has well outlasted the 2010 13" MBP that had a hard disk drive that broke at under 5 years old. Most online discussion then agreed that it didn't make any sense to buy an M2 Air with extra RAM and storage because then the price became the same as the Pro but with a slower processor, worse screen/speakers, less ports, etc.

According to several benchmark websites the M2 is 7 to 8% faster than the M1. While bumping up the clock speeds from 3.2Ghz to 3.5. Its almost the exact same chip. Where you get the 20% number from i got no idea. The switch from Intel also didnt really revolutionize anything. Intel chips were not only chocked for cooling in especially the Macbook air but while Intel was producing their chips on their own 14nm process first seen in consumer chips in 2015 Apple had their produced at TSMC in their then cutting edge 5nm process. Few other Apple factors at play here especially in regards to their highly restrictive ecosystem actually made the performance jump less than I personally expected. They couldve done better but they had no need. People buy Apple regardless of how good or bad their products are.

I don't really know what to choose. the MacBook M3 Air 16GB/512GB (€1,760) or the MacBook M3 Pro 8GB/512GB (€1,850). I would mainly use it to edit photos on Photoshop. The better screen quality and the SD card slot on the PRO model is a big advantage for me. Or am I better off with the Air M3 16GB/512GB because it has more RAM? I use a Nikon D750 and edit an average of 500 photos per year. So not a heavy user I guess? My current laptop is an Acer nitro 5 (8GB/512GB) from 2019

In terms of raw power, any M macbook is more than enough, even the older M1 or 2, but please get 16gb of ram. If you plan to connect your laptop to a monitor, I would pick a refurbished 14 M2 PRO I need to work exclusively on the laptop screen and I picked the larger 15 because it feels immersive and more useful than 14. The 120hz is nice but not a game changer.

I so wish the Macbook Air came with more than 8GB of RAM for the base model. The extra US $200 creates a bit of hesitation and forces me to think they could have made 16GB the standard, even if they had to bump up the price by $50-$100 and the result would be virtually no negative press, everyone would have a machine they'd be happy with, would be good for longevity, and none of this 8v16 discussion.
