Grab one of my teardown skins HERE: www.dbrand.com/teardown/macbooks Apple loves to hid little clues and Easter eggs in their launch events - have they added a coded message inside of the new 2023 MacBook Pro? It looks' to be some kind of brail dots but I can't make heads or tails of it. Is Apple pulling our leg with the new Macbook pros? are the braille letters just for assembly purposes? or maybe the location to a lost treasure trove of sold gold Apples... We may never know.

It won’t come back to anything useful. BLGY Right reads: VB41B2A Of course, it could also be upside down…in which case: With hollows facing you: Left: 3# 2L7Y Right: P2J12B’ From the perspective of the bumps facing you: Left: ,^;”H;? Right: &7_; V3 Take your pick!

Actually MBP 2017 looks very similar to disassemble (apart from the cpu and cooling chassis), similar battery, trackpad connection, same different sized screws. Special care needs to be taken with metallic screwdrivers not to damage the speakers whose strong magnets tend to attract the screwdriver all the time you’re near them.

It's most likely something boring. Probably a code that was made by the machine that milled the chassis as a way of marking what assembly line or specific machine it was made on. Things like this are really common in all sorts of products, and are used to help track down quality control issues and quickly identify what machine might be running into a problem.

What an awesome idea it is for you to start laptop teardowns. I think even more important would be laptop durability tests. Every laptop reviewer usually tests some things durability, but there is just so much that isn't covered and this channel could serve so well! We have things such as keyboard deck flex, poor key stability, trackpad clicking from the bottom due to poor rigidity, screen wobbling due to poor hinges, plastic bottoms with aluminum tops, carbon fiber interiors, little flimsy covers over some port openings, and just a ton more stuff that I can't even think of at the moment. I know a laptop doesn't take as much abuse as a phone, but it is a mobile product and durability is quite important. Zack, is that something you might consider going forward? (Samsung's been getting away with poor laptop build quality for far too long now :) -- An example is this -- we all think Razer can get away with its high prices due to the build quality, which some say is equivalent to that of a MacBook. Well, I hear that but never actually SEE build quality being tested. I know it's an expensive proposition to durability test such expensive devices, but if it's something you might be able to swing, I think it would be so helpful to the audience.
So soothing to listen to this guy! Oh the braille looking thing, if the dots are recessed, it probably should be read from the other side. So, you could actually be looking at the mirror image.
Awesome review!

To answer your question, Zac - Apple has been doing the sombrero hat trick since at least 2016 revs. I just replaced the battery on my 2017 MBP and it's the same there, too. In fact it's surprising how similar the layout is to the new M1/M2s. It wasn't that way on the previous versions, likely because the PMU had the original magsafe (v. I & II) on a seperate PMU board and not integrated via USB-C/TB ports.

I'm half interested in one of these, but I can't get over the soldered SSD. Having no option to change storage due to failure or space requirements is really dumb. It's not like their storage even outperforms high-end M.2's anyway. I can sort of understand the RAM being soldered right next to the CPU/APU, that does give some significant speed and latency benefits. Like all laptops I buy, I get it spec'd with the lowest RAM/SSD I can and upgrade myself. Silly to pay the 100%+ markup for something so simple.
@paulbade3566
3 ай бұрын
IF you have the equipment and skill to solder BGA chips, an EEPROM programmer, and another Mac with software to initialize the SSD chips and rewrite the serial number, you can upgrade the SSD. Upgrading RAM can probably be done without messing around with the firmware, but again you have to be able to rework BGA packages.
