Lawyers, lawyers, lawyers for writing an uncontestable will. Leave him $500 so he can't claim anything belonging to OP. Leave everything to charity.

I would put some money in a trust fund for the Grandkids that can't be touched until they are 25 years old. They are innocent in this.

Tbh if I was OP as soon as I saw him I would walk away , there's NO excuse for what the son did, being young and stupid is one thing but he didn't even come back when his mother was dying, eff him.

My aunts and uncles did the same thing, they were living near my grandparents but when my grandpa got sick they never even visited him. I who was living quite far started to nurse him along with my parents. I even moved near since none comes down aside from my parents who also have health issues. As soon as grandpa passed, they now reappeared after my grandma, acting they did something. The only aunt that was looking after them aside from my parents was in another country and sends them financial help and even takes time to call them. They even asked my parents for receipts when they learned aunt was sending money for my grandparents while my aunt didn't even asked for it since she's always in a video call and was aware of how things goes.

Son was terrible. No matter how busy one is, there's always time for a phone call. I'm always busy, but yet i still call my mom every other day . I also call my siblings every other day too. Except my 1st brother since i see him everyday.

Its how I felt about my dad. He infrequently contacted us, if ever. He passed this year, almost directly after he promised to call and spend more time with us I sometimes feel mad about it. But it is what it is

@colleennewholy9026 I know that no matter what I say can't ease any of the burden of your loss, but for what's it's worth, I'm sorry for your loss. Your dad had a change of heart towards the end, and you now know how much he regretted all the time lost. Some people never come to that realization. My dad wasn't exactly nice to put it mildly, and it took me years to bury the hatchet with him, but we got there.

Im very sorry your son has turned against you😢 its not nice at all and just feels like greed afterall-_-. Whatever has gotten into him is not what a good parent would want. Sorry for your loss, son needs to understand the importance of family and friends. The fact that son is asking these personal questions is just pure evil 😢😡 Edit: for that fact that son has no not much care for op is just sad and heart breaking🤬

The OP's son's actions was both creepy and money driven to say the least, but in the end the op used his head and ended that reality and put out his son, daughter in-law and grandchildren from his house,as tough as it was, the OP needed to do what is right and he did, good for him.

What a deeply moving narrative. It’s sad to see how financial interests can sometimes overshadow family bonds. The father's resilience and decision to stand up for himself despite the betrayal are truly inspiring. This story really hits home about the complexities of family relationships.

Once, I heard that he showed up at the funeral that would send me in a 'frenzy' of questions. There's no excuse for you leaving home from college time, getting married and not even coming back to look for your mother. She had cancer; that, is a sickness that can end one's life in such a quick time; and, he didn't come for that, not to look for her, even once; but, showed up when she was going into the ground, that is speaking volumes. The only thing you coming here for is to see what is left because you want to come dictate stuff for me and tell me how to run things, and what you're going to do! That's all that would be my mind and I would be very careful watching and taking note of everything because all that's on my mind is that you're here to take my money, throw me out or put me in some home, take what is left. In the end that is what he had planned & the dad overheard everything. He could have let them spend the night and in the morning tell them to get packing. I can understand the hurt for all of those years of neglect and deception he felt everything crashing down on him and he did not want to see or hear anything more from them. I would have let them stay seeing that it was a test and I had proven what I wanted to prove I would have let them stay until in the morning and just leave a sign saying that I would like all of you to leave my house, not another day; then, they would have known that he heard that was a real cold thing to let them go at that time of the night but when the deception and betrayal and all of that comes crashing down on you this is how you act sometimes; but , I'm glad he stood up for himself I do hope he changed his will and left stuff to family and friends who were there for him during his time of sickness and wife's bereavement. He could also leave some for charity seeing that the son was okay living up his best life, ignored them all their life, let him and his wife be responsible, leave something for the kids when they are like 24 they have access, not before so that they cannot use it. Teach the parents a lesson. Leave nothing for him and his wife something to the grandkids and they can't get access to it until they're 24 at that age they're fully aware that it is theirs and parents cannot take it like that without them the children, giving them permission as well. Parents cannot steal it from them.

I dunno, I've known so many people on the other side of this dynamic that there is part of me that is skeptical the dad has the full picture of what led to the estrangement. He can't really know what his departed wife said or communicated to their son and his wife that might have led to this point.

The son only told him that the son wanted to do it on his own ... AND the son said his mom was great at the funeral. The ONLY reason he came back was to make sure he was in the will! There wasn't ANYTHING stopping him from talking to his dad away from his mom! IF there had been ANYTHING the mom had done! Nope, this was all on a greedy narcissistic son!

lol love how you blame the woman when the son had no issues completely ghosting his parents, never called, didn't even show up when his mother was sick. And he was joyfully plotting how hed take his fathers money and convince him into an aged care facility.. but sure the innocent little boy isnt to blame here.

Why on earth should he give it to Tom? Nah, he should leave it to his favorite charities when he dies and maybe small trust funds for the grandkids that they can receive when they are twenty-five. Eighteen is too young. Tom and his wife would manage to steal the money from them if they receive it too young.
