Wait, The train goes OVER a railroad crossing while street running? that is the coolest thing I have ever seen!.

I'm from Herefordshire UK and model HO scale American Railroads. Your videos are a great insight into your Railroads and the wealth of detail, it's almost like being there. Great video and thanks for sharing.

Haha I'm an American modeling British scenes. You all have beautiful locomotives. I love your diesels- BR Class 37, Class 47, Class 55, Class 56, and the HST. All in the iconic BR blue of course!

I always imagined how it would be living so close to a working line. My grandfather lived on a dead end street in Whitesboro and I would run a few houses down to watch the train. I was always happy going to visit him. The residents living so close to those tracks really must love it.

A friend of my mom’s also lived on one of those streets which dead-ended at the then Penn Central’s two-track main (NY Central’s water level route. While my mom was visiting her friend, I walked down to watch the trains. A freight came by, led by a huge black engine screaming along. It scared me so I turned to run away, twisting my ankle in the process. I was 8. Still became a railfan though, lol.

I am watching in Spring Hill, Florida. I am a retired Philadelphia and Western operator, did that for 34 years and retired at age 55 and moved to Florida where I have been for 26 years. I started a Facebook page for Red Arrow Lines back in 2010 and now have over 4,000 members in the group, I also manage 4 other transportation groups and having fun doing it. This city, and the nearby town of St Thomas, has a rich history as a major rail hub, where many of the major railways in the eastern US and Canada have passed though since the late 1800s. My great grandfather was a railway worker his whole life and helped to build the Michigan Central Railway Bridge in Niagara Falls.

Hey neighbour, I'm up near Ottawa where my great uncle started with the CPR in the 1920's at Carleton Place where he was from, by 1930 he was a mechanic at Ottawa's Mechanicsville roundhouse, then finished out his career in Montreal as a chief-mechanic by the end of the steam era that came to an official end in Canada in October of 1960, less than two months before I was born.

You would be the perfect person to ask this question then: Why are the crossing warnings facing the same direction as the flow of the tracks? Wouldn't the be facing the flow of automobile traffic instead?

The train ran through our farm in Bridgewater forever, the bridge of the Unidilla is still there, and have loads of photos I took to help and use for reference when building my HO train some day. I think I may even do the derailment in Bridgewater. Great video Sir. From Bridgewater, and live in Oneida now.

Wellsville, NY here. My grandfather and one uncle worked for the Pennsylvania RR in the Hoboken, NJ marine shop. They maintained the steam tugs and wooden barges that used to float freight cars back and forth across the Hudson River. I am a retired motorman from the NYC subways, did 27 years. There's a rail line that runs through town here that is not abandoned, just not used except once in a while. I saw two brand new Acela trainsets pass through here in tow from Hornell, NY west to a yard in Olean, NY. They usually run a high rail pickup through here a day or so before a train comes through, I guess to remove any obstructions like downed trees etc. My father's family lived here and as a kid, we took the Erie Lackawanna RR to the station in Wellsville, and my dad's father would come pick us up and take us to his house. Freight ran a lot here back then, plus the passenger trains. Then the businesses along the line closed, or stopped using rail freight and the line sat for years till they ran two coal trains a day through here to some power plant somewhere. That converted to natural gas, so again the line sat unused as it does to this day. Sad, because I am about 250' from the line. I enjoyed your video and narration.

Would love to go see this stretch in person someday, it looks like the kind of thing that would show up in one of my railfanning dreams. The combination of the narrow street, the street running track, the number of crossing signals, the cramped little areas where the track switches off into the industries... it's all there. Would also be a blast to model it. There's a good number of Modern Industries crossing bells too... don't see those too often. (I own one so it's cool to actually see some in railroad use)

Nice video. My dad was raised in Ashtabula. Spent many holiday trips learning about railroading. Grandpa was a judge and knew everyone. A neighbor of grandma and grandpa's was in administration with NYC/ PC/CR. He took me up to meet the fellows in the control towers, shops, locos, and cabooses. Listened to the bells ring and the radio-phone exchanges as the trains thundered through, shaking the towers and rattling the windows. Shown how to set up the routes- my cousin's and I had to have help pulling the levers. Rode on locals on the head end and caboose, turned engines on the wye, and spotted them on the service and ready tracks. I'll never forget those trips. Also had a friend that had an uncle who worked at the buckeye yard in Columbus. In the 60's they'd show us how to operate the locos there too. When we were working on our railroading merit badge for scouts we took formal trips to the yards. You don't get that on the Internet. Feel sorry for the youth today that miss out on these experiences. The covered wagons were my favorite. There was a big derailment in '65 or '66. I remember the first engine on its side, the second off the tracks, and the mangled cars. Grandpa took me down to see the carnage. Unimaginable to a youngster. We also spent a lot of time in the harbor and lookout point. The tugs amazed me as they'd help position the ships at their berths. The harbor was such a busy place. One year a couple of ore/coal hoppers ended up in the drink. Id have loved to hear that crews excuse -- Different era. Miss the River Street Rambler in Savannah. Our pups have accompanied us on many adventures. They loved picnics by the tracks. Our min-pin chihuahua runt, Coco, would get excited and look toward the tracks when I'd ask her where the train was.

I’ve never seen this far into this rail line. I’m used to seeing the line running through town when they switch out hoppers.

Well at least 3040 didn't stall out on the Hills. Thanks for getting the shots of the driveway Street on the going away shot and also that light snowfall fell just right on the joint bars and bolts. It appears the Dopey button was on for many of the motorists and pedestrians on Schuyler Street and of course if it wasn't for the wind blowing on Bitolds ears he has that Thousand Miles stare. The cow did lift its head under his own power but running away from the train requires energy so what was canceled. From Milwaukee thanks for the winter tour our inch of snow melted today

I am a carman with the Essex Terminal Railway, I noticed all 3 of those hoppers have been through my RIP track, there are dates painted next to the AEI tags. We use those to keep track of the last time we had those cars in for work.

I'm in Santa Barbara CA area. I lived in Utica at the Obelston on Genesee St in 1970. My wife couldn't hack it. She missed her mom. I do not miss the cold and snow of upstate NY.

Watching from the Cortland NY. Area the Susquehanna runs through our area and usually has about 2 miles of cars connected with 3 to 4 engines, and it is a site to see specially up close you can feel the train go by.
