The first World Cup I ever watched on TV was 1982. I watched Maradona's entire career. I remember watching the '86 final, and was amazed. I was 14. THIS... T H I S... is the greatest thing I have EVER... E V ER... seen in all of sports. Absolutely could not write this ending. BEYOND BELIEF. This is the most amazing match I have ever seen in my life. I saw Klinsmann play in Germany against Switzerland, and saw him score when I was 16. I was in Germany, at the match. This is WAAAAYYYYYYYY beyond that. I CANNOT believe what I witnessed today. This is literally the greatest sporting achievement I have ever seen. I even watched the U.S. Olympic Hockey team beat the Soviet Union in the 1980 Olympics. I watched that game live. I was 8 years old. This was bigger. What a match. What a player. Messi is the absolute GOAT. WOW.

Still think that 1st call is a pen. Whenever a player is clipped on the heel like that it is ALWAYS called. Referee honestly was surprisingly consistent.

Why does nobody talk about the main reason why France lost - missed penalty kicks or fundamentals. It was an amazing final game full of great players, subs, strategies, plays, goals and saves. But two French players flopped their penalty kicks which ultimately made the difference in the end. The best players in the world have no excuse missing penalty shots. This should be emphasized more in World Cup play because too many games come down to penalties just like this years final. Congrats to both teams and both star players. Much props to Martinez who literally saved Argentina from losing, multiple times. He was the real MVP but what an ending for a brilliant career in Lionel Messi who took care of the scoring. Mbappe and his hat trick has his entire career ahead of him. He is the future of great World cups to come.

As a Mexican who has been embraced while living in your country - it was also the best day of my life. I have to say that I disagree with Herculez for one very specific reason - unfortunately many of my "paisanos" are sort of haters. Not all of course as I love my country, but some can be rude. I understand your feeling because my husband is from Argentina and sometimes he can be harsh in his fandom. Many sports fans are this way, but I don't think it's a reason to degrade the an entire team. Good game by the Argentinians but I believe France was very unlucky this world cup with 60% of the team injured or sick It is really a miracle that France reached the final and gave Argentina a run for their world cup. Varane, Upamecano, Rabiot, Koman were still weak and recovering from their disease. A game where Mbappe scored 3 goals I think with players like Benzema, Pogba, Kimpembe, Nkunku, and Kante not injured I highly doubt that Argentina would have won this world cup.

As for the penalties, the five, none of those penalties were outrageous. They were all 50/50 which is why the commentators on all of these shows have different opinions if it was or it wasn't. Same as the French 1st penalty where the French player runs into the box and yes Otamendi did have his hand on the Frenchs players chest but the French player falls like his legs were cut down. Ho took a dive too, so we get it, it happens.

Funny how you can see people's bias in commentary. No conversations about Frances penalties, first one they had feet tangled and both used arms a lot. Second one was hand ball and those weren't always called in world cup, in fact Argentina didn't get a hand ball penalty against Croatia.

I was thinking the same. I dont agree that the 1st penalti (Argentina's) was an error. First of all, as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) the VAR can't call the ref if there's contact, so it wasnt a VAR mistake, but anyway, who plays football knows how just a small touch on your foot in the air can easily make you stumble, and that was the impression I had seeing that moment. When you put it in slow motion, it really appears that it wasnt enough to make Di Maria falls down, but in real life motion it's different. I think the ref. got right in every capital moments in that final, specially that simulation from that french player which I think many refs would have blown the wisle but he didnt.

I find it funny that Hercules would called Argentina arrogant. When the US team and Mexico team is 10 times arrogant and they haven't won a World Cup or even come close to winning one.
