Full hydro steering Install on a Jeep XJ
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is part 2 of installing a full hydro steering system on a Jeep Cherokee XJ. In this video I cover the body side of the install. This includes the making orbital mount, installing the steering shaft to the orbital, routing the hydro lines and more. This video pretty much covers everything needed on the body side of the system.
The axle side of the system can be found in this video.
• Full hydraulic ram mount
Some of the parts I used in the video
The adapter for the PS pump into the hydraulic line. I used a steel fitting because of the pressure on this side of the system

Nice job Mark.👍👍

Thanks Dan!
In regard to the cooler, I would install a gauge, identify optimal temp, and monitor it. Go from there. It may work great as is. Setup is looking good. Look forward to seeing how it works out for you.

I will have to check that out. Thanks 👍
Did you drill out the aeroquip hose fitting that screws into the pump to increase fluid flow? If so, what drill size? Thanks for all of the info.

No. The aeroquip fittings were factory. I slightly drill out the factory fitting on the pump . Im sorry I dont remember the exact size. I didnt want to go too big to create issues. I went like 1 drill size up from factory on the xj
i would like a link for the orbitrol! its amazing how easy it fits on the stock colomn! do you thing i could get away without a cooler?

I bought the orbital used along with the adapter. Try counting the splines on your steering shaft. I know they make the adapters. The orbital I know is a trail gear orbital. I would buy another if I had to do it again.

I would highly suggest a cooler. I ran a system with too small of a cooler and it made steering awful.
Did the dash 8 return line solve your cavitation problem?

I believe so. I havent had the cavitation issue since switching over
You'll need a larger fluid res. I had a similar setup
@FMJeeping

I was worried about that. Im working on an external res I can tap and plumb into the factory pump. I'm going to give this a few runs and see how it does. What did you end up going with?

@@FMJeeping i ended running the tall psc with filter and haven’t had any issues since

You have a link for the tubing and clamps you used for the cowl intake ?
@FMJeeping

Sorry. That is from an old cowl intake (spectre) that is no longer in production. I bought it used from someone on Facebook marketplace.

@@FMJeeping 🤙 thanks for the quick reply. I’m trying to make room for front coilovers. I may just go with the Thor intake.

@@jackbrown2224 yeah I hear that. That's exactly why I went with the cowl intake myself. Do you know what you're doing on the passenger side? I ended up relocating my fuse panel against the firewall and getting rid of the AC. I am probably going to also relocate the battery to behind the passenger seat
Did you end up going to a remote Reservoir if so, what size
@FMJeeping

Nope. Stayed with the factory WJ one
What fluid did you use? Standard Power steering fluid or hydraulic oil?
@FMJeeping
Жыл бұрын
I used power steering fluid. The previous owner used red ps fluid. I flushed it out and used the clear stuff from autozone.

I thought you were supposed to use hydro fluid like swepco I think it's called. Of course psc plugs it on their site

@@FMJeeping I knew there had to have been a reason why I would spend that kind of money on a hydro fluid when I got my ram lol
$800 for full hydro is a bargain fo sho

Thank you. I could have saved a little more on the mount if I went with a tube style or the TMR. But lessons learned. $800 is still better than $1500
