Full Engine Machining on a B series MGB GT. Car Running footage also.
Спорт
Hello.
In this video I machine a B series engine for my customer Lee. We also covert his cylinder head to lead free and build the bottom end ready for Lee to set the cam timing and build.
Lee has also sent photos of it finished and a small video of it running.
Thanks for watching.
James

Like many of your commentators, I owned an MGB roadster. It had been rebuilt and was a delight to drive. Thank you for keeping the marque alive through your amazing engineering skills. I too would love to see the twin engine builds and see the difference in performance.

Great idea for the two engines. One fairly standard and the other fully tuned. Nice to see your customer had done this build justice with the finishing and refit. Looks smart 👌🏼 MGB

In the US, what you've done to the MG engine is sometimes referred to as "Blueprinting". A friend of mind had it done to the Bugeye Sprite that he raced. I never realized all that it entailed until your excellent video. Thank you.

Curious if you’ve had experience with the MSX crossflow head. I’d like to disprove the naysayers that this head can make power and be reliable.
@graceenginedevelopments
Ай бұрын
I haven’t but I would be happy to test one. I have fitted an HRG crossflow head to a 1622 race engine for a friend, that’s still going strong and had a few class wins, I’ve attached the link just in case you would like to watch. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqOBvMagaZq6mNI.htmlsi=jOTwj0Cl8smeRGfK

Excellent MG B video! I think for thise 2 engines, one completely standard with new parts, the other all out race engine, just to show the difference in what is done, and the difference in power

Great educational video James. I had just started assembling my 1971 mgb engine in Oct. 2022 when I found your channel. I did not have the crank balanced but I did buy a scale and matched the weight of the piston/rod assemblies with no grinding needed. Two were identical in weight, one was a gram lower and one was a gram higher. Engine runs smooth as an electric motor. I really enjoy your videos. North Carolina USA😊

I guess your MGB series engines are both 5-main bearing varieties? If they're both similar state of repair, how about treating both similarly re: balancing & cam profile / timing, but put a recent crossflow head on one as a comparator. THAT would be a definitive crossflow answer to a perennial b-series question. Keep up the great content.
@graceenginedevelopments
Ай бұрын
Hi Rob. Yes both are 5 bearing.. I'll see if I can get a crossflow heads and back to back, I've now ordered bits for the more modified one..
I would really like to see a video of the two engines as you suggest. I have a MGB and am very tempted to upgrade the engine to a fast road unit. Looking forward to the video already.

MGB. When you have to take 10 thou off the head to true it up , what’s the effect on the compression ratio and is any compensation required?
@graceenginedevelopments

Thank you... 0.010" on a std engine won't need any compensation.. depending on the bore and stroke etc will depend on what difference it makes..
