You, the man, Daniel! So, many machine shops in eastern N.C. only do basic stuff. Surfacing heads flywheels, etc. Maybe, valve jobs. Ask them to align hone a block or regrind a camshaft. No, were not set up, to do that. What, a shame. The craft is dying. Thank you, for what you're doing.

When I first started watching, I didn't realize how expensive these "cams" were. The Harley you worked & mentioned like $4,500 and I was taken aback. So the strength/hardness of these cams is such that they are an expensive part, hence all specialized machines to save what can be saved & to get them into as close to specs as possible. When you mentioned the "hardness" of the lifter vrs the camshaft that caught me - how would anyone be able to trust what a website/amazon says about this? If I were racing I'd have a way to know but I'm just a dumb guy who wants to know it's right.... exceedingly difficult for folks like me. I guess that's where you come in. peace Dr Powell

It's fascinating to see you reading the surface of the metal as you speak about things that might cause what we're all seeing. I'll be here for the next one.... thank you, Sir

I gather that the only difference between grinding flat tappets vs rollers is how you dress the wheel. Since the name brand grinders are going to a CNC grinder that can allegedly make a cam from a blank in 15 minutes, would you say doing it the 'old school' way is better or worse than a fully automated shop ? I'd like to believe you can give a cam better QC than someone throwing a cam in a machine, closing the cover and having a coffee......

@@powellmachineinc3179 I think I got it. You take material away from the base circle and that gives more to the lobe end. (?) So obviously you cannot re-grind forever unless you re-weld it correct? Can it be re-welded with any faith in durability?

I hope you have installation instructions, like wash, oil, check backlash, ect, ect! Also must have quality lifters & don’t let it idle when started! Guys that start & break in engines like we used to, regardless of cam type, don’t really have these issues! Nobody wants to say it! Lots & lots of knock off china crap, so called LS7 lifters!
