Full Cycle- 1954 Whirlpool Imperial Automatic Washer 154583 washing clothes

Ойын-сауық

Full cycle of clothes in the 1954 Whirlpool! This machine has tested me on getting it right from timer issues to old hoses. I enjoyed working on it and will be doing videos on it and my other machines in the coming months. Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! Thank You for watching!

Love these vintage Whirlpool washing machines,.. and the Kenmores too... The control panels with the back lighting and all the chrome and colors of the knobs. My mother and my Aunts had these machines when we were growing up.. They did a fantastic job cleaning your clothes the first time in only 25 to 30 minutes...and they were fun to lift the lid and watch the agitator go back and forth. So much better than the Crap washing machines today.

This washer will definitely last beyond 100 years! This is what you call an ultra heavy duty washer. This thing can handle the toughest and heaviest abuse that the newest ones can’t handle. Appliances were all about quality back then! Companies cared about the products they made, and planned obsolescence was not a thing!

One of Whirlpool's most beautiful designs. Wish they would have developed this style for longer than they did. Thanks Tyler ! Excellent. Notice the distinct lack of the woo woo sounds of later whirlpools. Like the agitator cap on this 54 Whirlpool more than the 61. Has that atomic age grace and style, especially with the bullet shaped chrome ones that came out several years later.

Just amazing, vintage Whirlpool so smooth running, unlike all the clicks and clacks that today’s HE washers do. What they don’t do, is wash clothes like this beauty!

'72 and prior machines had the steel tub ring, those were the tanks. Notice how in the 50's they offered medium wash temperature, extra hot water solenoid to add higher mix of hot water.

Thank you GSO for this trip down memory lane. We had the same model washer in the house where I grew up. It was badged as an Inglis (a Canadian company at the time) for the Canadian market but every feature on it is the same apart from the name on the control panel. Didn't know at the time why the knob at the top of the agitator had what looked like and M on it. Mom regularly used the "suds" feature where the wash water was drained to the laundry tub during the initial wash water draining cycle (laundry tub stoppered up to save the wash water) and sucked back in to the washer when a new cycle started. The washer had two drain hoses, one long one that went to the bottom of the laundry tub and another that drained the rinse cycle water into a drain tube that bypassed the laundry tub. It reduced the amount of laundry soap needed for the next load but always was topped up with some fresh water to account for wash water lost to the spin out and used to wet the clothes. Mom would start with whites and finish with the darkest loads when using this feature to keep whites and lighter colours from going gray. Found out later that by 1954, Inglis was using the same design as the Whirlpool and often used the same parts until Inglis was eventually merged with Whirlpool. It was a solid machine that lasted many years. We replaced it with a later model Inglis and then went to Kenmore for the next two washers, not realizing they were all Whirlpool designs. Kept the last one after dad died and it is in use at the cottage. It is largely the same machine with updates in the cabinet and control panel, but still the same classic movements and good old mechanical timer. I also have a 1986 Inglis Liberator "Heavy Duty" model with the same movements, tub design, mechanical timer and long lasting performance that came with the house I am currently in. We got a good ten years of service from that washer from the time we moved in. Sadly, the water drain pump went on it last week and I can no longer get parts. The closest replacement washer I can now get is the Maytag Commercial Grade residential agitator washer MVWP575GW since the equivalent Whirlpool Commercial Grade washer is not sold in Canada. I expect to see just as many years of service with this replacement, though it doesn't have the classical Whirlpool internals.

Hi Tyler . Does this early Whirlpool have the 20 minute wash cycle timer? I remember hearing that they did. It was maybe a few years after this model that they went to the 14 minute timer. Really like the motor thrum on this one. Can't hear the distinctive woo woo noises. Familiar yet very different.

Gso I guess in their theory of damp dry is the long final spin so the residual water from the spray rinses can spin out. Again I’m thinking their theory.
