Josh is an excellent teacher. Most guys dont break down the details of a technique this well.
That bad boy is called Waki Gatame in Judo! Really old classical arm bar - a beauty!!!

Great conversation. W Bernardo. W Barnett. Long live CaCC and BJJ.
man I love me some catch jitsu 😂 - any chance of getting Niel Melanson and Josh Barnett to roll? 🤯
As much as I like the technique, I appreciate the argument that Josh is making about the rule set and how it effects technique.
I couldnt imagine the amount of pressure a barbarian like Josh can apply when he wants to.

No doubt! I love Bernardo’s grunts of discomfort when he’s on the back of his shoulder! Rough.

The Metamoris match with Dean Lister, where he finishes with a scarf hold just full power… it’s terrifying.
WOW, Josh is a HUGE MAN, just wow...
that cameraman sounds though :D it sounds like a guy is snoring :D
I swear Josh Barnett and Neil Melanson have the most vicious submissions, I'd just go to their school everyday
Wakigatame.
❤❤❤wow

lol indeed.
bernard is not a small guy and he looks tiny next to josh
The Fujiwara arm bar looks identical to waki gatame in judo

Because the guy who popularized fujiwara armbar, competed in Judo way before he became a famous shoot wrestler. So this technique is originally from Judo

Not a coincidence. There are a lot of similarities between Judo and Catch and in the old days - like 1910s, 1920s etc. - US Catch guys would travel to Japan and judokas would come to the US. They influenced each other.

@@arthemas8176check out the “Billy Robinson arm bar” (starting from standing) for the pure catch wrestling version of the Fujiwara arm bar.

Powerful, simple. But I can see this accidentally hurting some if executed too quickly under pressure. Stay safe out there.

On the ground os relative safe. On the feet are much more dangerous. Aoki snaped a oponent arm applying on the feets.

If I’m not mistaken, I read somewhere in judo it’s illegal if you do it standing up.
Is Bernardo screaming for show or is that real?
Do not copy!
There a number of transitions to other subs from here, like applying forearm elbow on the triceps, opting for a "salute," etc. It's an entry that offers even more painful submissions than what Josh shows here.
