Thank you Kevin for your inspiration over the years. In 2018 I bought my X100F and started shooting using your recipes (I really liked what you called “Padilla” back then, these days I have the “Imai” on most of the time). I had a great pleasure of attending a workshop in London with you. I hope all is well and there are many more years and iterations of the X100 on your way.

Great to see this review Kevin. Thank you for putting it together so thoughtfully with your consistent authenticity. I share the battery, WR and SD card gripes, but there is always a tradeoff and I can’t wait to try the new IBIS and processor in a camera this small. It’ll make a world of difference as a wheelchair user. Size is my top consideration now. Big hug, thank you again for continuing to make lemonade. Pete

Being a proud owner of X100V since its release and even though I’m a Nikon shooter this is still my favourite little do everything camera and I’m most definitely going to buy the VI 😍 with regards to weather sealing I’m a big fan of the Nisi UV Filter kit that is not only more compact than the Fugi kit it also allows you to use the lens cap. It’s therefore permanently fitted so well done Nisi 👍

Thank you Kevin for your thoughtful and thorough review. I eagerly went down to my local photography store and reserved the little gem earlier in the week. As a happy Leica Q owner, I was holding out for Fujifilm to present a new X100 or X-Pro; because, I really wanted something more pocketable. I had tried the X-T5 earlier last year, and was so impressed; so knew that brilliance was imminent. Now my inner child can’t wait for that magic and joy.

For me IBIS and the 40Mp sensor are very welcome, but with that resolution I would have preferred an 18mm lens with an option to crop digitally in camera to 23mm, or crop in post if required. In certain situations I find the 35mm equivalent focal length too tight.

Kevin, thank you for the detailed and balanced review. The Six will be a wonderful upgrade on my XE-4 with pancake, and an excellent younger sibling for the X-T5. Extraordinary achievement managing to build in IBIS. I still look fondly on my Fujica ST605 SLR, bought in 1977. It was marketed as The Little Camera for the Big Shots. I think the same will apply to the Six! 😊

So, I watched this, and placed my order, and also caught your recent unboxing of the special edition, and realised I was probably far too late for the special edition, unless you know of a way for a nobody, amateur to manage to acquire one? Hey ho, such is life, but I could feel your joy at the unboxing. I guess we all know that life is not about accumulating stuff, as we’ll have to leave it all behind one day, but it ever there was a thing of beauty that can bring joy while we are here, it has to be that lovely special edition. Thanks for a very informative and useful review - as always, Kevin! I've had the F for a few years, and recently gave in to the tempation of getting the V, too. (You only live once, etc...😅) Now I will seriously consider the VI, as well. Why? Your mention of the 4:3 and 5:4 aspect ratios! Yes, I know one can crop in post, but I love shooting vertically, and try to get the framing right in camera, and 3:2 when shooting vertically has always looked to "elongated" (if that's the right word) to my eyes. Parring those aspect ratios with IBIS, as I love shooting and night (and we have plenty of night here in Norway in the winter) means that I have decisions to make. Thank you again - I always enjoy your "clips" 😊

Kevin can speak to this better than I can, but I don’t think the camera size is overwhelmingly different depending what lens you have on the X-T5. The X100 series don’t fit in pants pockets. That said, it would be nice if Fuji updated the 18mm to a true pancake to give more options for smaller interchangeable camera footprints. I find the 27mm not wide enough sometimes.

@@CityOfLakes612 yeah, I had the V and definitely not going in my jeans but, it fits in a jacket pocket nicely. I’ve got the 23mm 1.4 on the XT5 today and that’s not fitting in any pocket unfortunately. To be fair, I could go for the f2 lenses but still not as compact. I’ll just have to keep the two systems (don’t tell my wife!)

Got mine a few weeks back, my first X100 (have an X-T3 as well) and it’s a lovely camera really. My only gripe however is how the custom profiles are handled. As many of us use the custom profiles for film recipes only, it would be great if it was possible to decouple the other camera settings from being stored/changed with changing custom profiles; for example ND filter, AF settings, image size, image quality, etc. Solution could also be to have “film recipes” as separate category from the custom profiles. I hope this is something Fuji picks up on and improves.

  • @kevin_mullins

@@kevin_mullins i can certainly see the use case for quickly switching camera settings, so perhaps fuji could add an option under user settings to allow us to choose if camera settings should change/load when switching custom profiles. Even better would be to allow the user to tick/untick from a list which settings to load/change when switching custom profiles, similar to how we customize view modes today, by ticking/unticking which elements we want to see.

Nice review - useful and decent update, IBIS is way overdue... small cheaper cameras from other brands have had IBIS for the last decade. Its the most important update for me. Weather sealing iscpretty much standard with some brands too. The 40mp sensor i could take or leave - its main benefit is to crop when yiu can't get close enough with the23mm lens. Pleased also they retained that23mm lens. Leica have done the same retaining their lens across the Q models. But Fuji is taking pi$$ with the price. IBIS should be included in all cameras anyway so you cant chatge extra for it but otherwise the camera is a nice spec bump but its not that big a deal. I don't feel excited at the value

Lovely video. Thank you. I have a question. I have the VI on order since they first came out. After seeing that it wouldn't be coming to me anytime soon, I bought the T5. I am enjoying it very much. I have purchased, and returned several lovely and powerful lens including the Fuji 33 mm f/1.4 and Viltrox 27mm f/1.2. Great lenses. Loved them. But, I discovered that what I really wanted was a great lightweight setup for travel and walk around and these lenses didn't fit that bill. I bought the 30mm Macro. It's a good deal lighter and a very enjoyable lens. I am keeping this one. But, I still wanted a size closer to the VI. I bought the Voigtlander 27mm f/2. This manual lens is really lightweight and small and I am enjoying it very much. Getting great and sharp photos with it. Outstanding really and I am getting more and more comfortable and efficient shooting manually. I took my Small Rig grip off of the T5 and am finding it a very comfortable walk around combo with the T5. It's weight tops out almost exactly the weight of the VI (with a third party grip, filter and hood). Now to my question. In your opinion, is there still a pleasure benefit to the VI over my T5 kit? Yeah, the Voigtlander isn't weather sealed. But, if I want to shoot in the rain I have the 30mm. So, it isn't a concern. And I live in a fairly dry area. Your thoughts please.

Well, I think there is a lot to be said for the "feel" of a camera. Personally, I much prefer using range finder style cameras. Beyond that, though, the X100VI does have many differing factors - Built in ND Filter, Built in Flash, Leaf Shutter, Hybrid Viewfinder for starters. But really, if you enjoy the X-T5, then its the camera for you.

Thanks for the review… good to see Fuji sticking to their beliefs. I hope, and have an idea that we will see Fuji introducing a similar model with a 28mm equivalent lens… with the success of their Rich GR and Leica Q, and the obvious love for their own X70, it appears to be a “no brainier” especially considering Fuji’s loyal following 🫰🏻

Thanks for your reply. The Eyecup on my V did not came off (like on the XPro2 sometimes) but the rubber showed wear and tear after only a few uses (never seen that on the older X100 models I had). Regarding the shutter button maybe flimsy was not the right wording. I sometimes had issues with firing the button. Seldomly it didn’t fire at all but most of the time I had a feeling that it „didn’t click when I clicked“. Kind of „being disconnected“ from the shutter if that makes any sense

Absolutely not. Get yourself an older model mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with a cheap kit zoom lens and figure out what you want from a camera first. There are plenty of second-hand Sony mirrorless cameras and kits lenses like the 16-50mm are peanuts, they will do for daylight shooting until you know what you want. Or go even way cheaper and get a second-hand Canon dSLR or similar, there are hundreds of lenses and accessories going back decades that nobody wants but are excellent.

I purchased my x100v a couple of years ago, in Australia, for about $1400 AUD, brand new. They’re now going for $2400 if you can find one. Unfortunately Fujifilm Australia has priced its products way out of the reach of 99% of prosumers/enthusiasts. Maybe doctors and lawyers will be available to afford an X100VI. Not wanting to whinge but that’s the reality of the “Australia tax”… Btw nice video Kev, as always.

Judging by the specs on paper this seems like a great upgrade to an amazing camera. However, I"m surprised that no one is talking about this camera being made in China. I have the X-T2(Japan) and the X-T3(China). And while the X-T3 is a better featured camera, the build quality isn't as good as the X-T2 and I'm curious if this is the case with the X100VI as opposed to the V.

The build and structure of the VI is identical to the V. I visited the Fujifilm factory last year in Sendai and spoke to the factory managers. If you look at my Fujicast podcast you can hear the interview. Essentially, whether it's Japan, China or Philippines the quality is identical as all the machining and jigs are engineered in Sendai and the production is identical.

Hey thanks for the review! I think this camera will be really popular. The 40 megapixel is awesome with a fixed lens system. So you can still crop if you want to. The ibis makes shooting still objects in low light a lot easier and helps with video. And the small size really helps with getting candid shots as people are less and less used to camera's nowadays. Pretty sure I will be picking one up as a special use camera.
