    I really enjoyed this video and enjoyed your photographs. I have heard quite a few travelers say that they do not like Venice. Too crowded. Too touristy. Bad food. I went for two days about 6 years ago. Stayed in a small hotel to the north a decent walk from St. Marks. I loved Venice immediately. I went back again in late November of 2022. A great time of year. Christmas decorations were up all over the city. Same hotel. But stayed a week this time. The food is amazing if you get a little ways from the tourist shops around St. Marks. Likewise with the crowds which weren't too bad anyway. Venice at night is like nowhere else on earth. We would just wander, get lost and absorb it. I had my new X100V with me. It was a pleasure to carry and use. I got a good many keepers. But I did end up feeling constrained with the fixed focal length lens. I also did not feel like its nighttime performance was great without IBIS. The new X100VI may address those issues. Anyway, thanks for this great video and the wonderful images of Venice.

    Hi George, thanks so much for the comment, and glad you enjoyed the video. Venice is pretty unique, and when it comes to photography, it can be quite challenging. It's not everyone's cup of tea, and sometimes it can be overwhelming. I agree with you completely that photographing Venice at night is an experience that's hard to match anywhere else in the world. Oh, and about the food? Totally! If you stray a bit from the touristy spots, you'll find some incredible eats! About the X100V, yeah, the lack of IBIS does make handheld shots a bit tricky in low-light conditions. I haven't had the chance to try the new X100VI yet, but the stabilization makes a big difference in this regard. Ciao 😃

    Hey Andrea, great video! It was fun seeing a different side of your photography on this one. I'm going to be in your Dolomites workshop this fall and have a couple of days in Venice both before and after so this has me excited to explore there a bit! If you had to pick a prime focal length for street photography what would you go with?

  • @AndreaLivieriPhoto

    @AndreaLivieriPhoto

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you so much, Chris! Definitely looking forward to the Dolomites workshop. It's great that you have a few days to explore the city before and after the workshop. As for the lens, well, my favorite focal lengths for street photography are 28mm and 35mm. Both lenses allow me to get a decent angle of view without too much distortion, and they also allow me to approach my subject more closely. This video includes all images taken with a 35mm lens, for example. It can be challenging to photograph people at a close distance with the 28mm, but I really enjoy it. Also, the 50mm works well if you don't feel comfortable getting too close to people. The telephoto lens can also produce beautiful images, but the results are drastically different. If you enjoy photographing buildings with ultra-wide angle lenses, architectural shots are also quite interesting. As you can see, you have a ton of options. Anyway, street photography-wise, for my liking the 28mm or the 35mm are the best. I hope this helps :) Ciao

    Wow, that was totally unexpected! Fantastic video, Andrea. What is the tool you use at 05:25? Seeing how it helps you edit and considering the difficulty sometimes of using a mouse to adjust settings in Capture One, I think I need to have this tool in my life now! haha.

  • @AndreaLivieriPhoto

    @AndreaLivieriPhoto

    Nik, thanks so much for your comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The device at 05:25 is the TourBox. Since I got it five months ago, I've been using it almost daily for everything from video editing to photo editing. At first, I was skeptical, but once I got used to it, I was hooked. It saves me about 30% of editing time and is totally customizable. It works very smoothly in combination with the Wacom tablet as well. I'll talk about it more in-depth in a video. There could be some improvements to TourBox's integration with Capture One, but that's not a TourBox issue. Compared to Lightroom or Photoshop, Capture One maps its tools differently resulting in a bit clunky experience. It does its job in general. When it comes to video editing with Final Cut and Davinci Resolve, this little device is A M A Z I N G! Love it, it saves me so much time! Have a good one! Ciao :)

    Andrea che obiettivo Fuji preferisci per le sunstars?

  • @AndreaLivieriPhoto

    @AndreaLivieriPhoto

    Жыл бұрын

    Ciao, stando sul parco ottiche Fuji il 8-16mm si comporta molto bene in quanto a sunstar. Anche il 10-24mm offre dei risultati abbastanza buoni. Tuttavia, ci sono altri obiettivi di terze parti tipo il NiSi 9mm che ha come selling-point proprio il fatto che riproduce un'ottima sunstar (da tenere conto però che è manual focus).

    Bel video Andrea! Io non sono mai stato a Venezia ma rimedierò presto, per stare leggeri meglio andare con un 16-80 o il 70-300? Fuji ovviamente, grazie!

    Grazie mille, Luca. Sono contento che il video ti sia piaciuto. In quanto alla tua domanda, non c'è mai una risposta definitiva, molto dipende dallo stile che preferiamo. A mio personale parere il 16-80 sul contesto città di Venezia è più versatile in quanto abbraccia un range di focali che ti permette di catturare diverse tipologie di inquadrature, dalle grandangolo al medio-tele spinto. Il 70-300 lo vedo per certi versi limitativo in quanto sai che dovrai lavorare con inquadrature sempre molto strette e rischi di precluderti un bel po' di situazioni interessanti. Devi valutare un po' tu quello che più si avvicina al tuo stile. Spero di averti dato qualche spunto utile. Ciao :)

Anche se con feeling diverso, i momenti più congeniali per fotografare la città sono in autunno inoltrato, oppure primavera durante le prime luci oppure in notturna.
