FUJIFILM X-T50 - Almost Perfect Mid-Level Mirrorless Camera

Join this channel to get access to perks:

The Fujifilm X-T50 was available for touch and try at Artishutter X N4 store at Jiospace, PJ. I went to have a hands on preview of the X-T50, and made this video to share my thoughts about the camera. I think Fuji almost nailed it in making the perfect mid level mirrorless camera, missing one very critical feature.

That is one impressive looking camera shop Robin..Reminds me of the shops I worked in on and off starting in the 70s --(back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) until the mid 90s. I would have to travel about 50 miles to get to a well stocked, full service camera store now..Local dealers stores look more like garage sales. I admit I've considered jumping to the Fuji system a few times over the years--I'm happy with OM and Panasonic and just WAY too deep into M4/3 to change out. A true higher resolution sensor would be nice for M4/3. Thanks for sharing your perspective..

Awesome video Robin, thanks for sharing your opinion. It's one gorgeous little camera. Would like that to be adopted by other brands in every camera :)

  • @robinwong

Thanks, appreciate that! The LED AF confirmation is a good idea, but the camera's AF needs to be really reliable, or else we get false confirmations, which can be misleading and frustrating. Hence I'd still always look at the LCD or EVF and observe carefully the place that is supposed to be focused and make sure it is visually!

Great section in the end, it summarizes my only gripes with the Fujifilm system overall. The sometimes-unreliable eye AF and the waxy skin texture have been two annoying things that I have experienced countless times with the X-T4, X-T5 and the X-S20.

Thanks for pointing out the lack of WR. I was trying to decide between a X-T50 and a X-T5 to be a second body to my X-H2. I was so close to going with the X-T50 as a smaller camera option; but, as you noted, the lack of WR in a mid-tier camera really got to me. \Given the X-T5 is only $300 USD more than the X-T50, I think I'll go with the X-T5 for the WR. Better EVF and not needing to buy a L bracket/finger grip to make the camera hand-holdable are also pluses.

Glad to see your review. This isn’t a bad update to the 30. I know some are upset by the price but 1) everything is getting too expensive and 2) adding IBIS and their 40mp sensor justify at least some of that jump. I personally did not like my results with the 40mp sensor in low light, but it has undeniable advantages in certain circumstances. I hate that they wasted a physical control on film simulations when ISO is much more useful, but I would just make the slight jump up to an X-T5 if it were me. +1 to Fuji for giving an update to a mid-level camera. I give them credit for leaning in on something that their loyal community loves while other companies make these weird cameras with tons of compromises like S9 or that nuts F8 pancake.

I wish I could bring the camera out to film my talking head, but it was crazy windy and noisy (because of large steel fans) outside and the audio indoor is cleaner. If not brand loyal, just for a few more hours, Panasonic are selling direct their full frame S5, which is a very well specified full frame water resistant camera complete with their 20-60 lens for £899 complete, delivered. The body is about the same size as a G9 micro four thirds or this Fuji XT50. The lens is quite big though. This is only in the UK and makes use of the Panasonic web site 10% extra discount for a first order. This unit cost about £2100 with the lens when introduced. Yes I know this video is about the Fuji X-T50 but for buyers that are flexible with branding, they should not ignore value propositions when they see them and then only if they actually need a product at the time or soon.

  • @robinwong

    @robinwong

    2 ай бұрын

Panasonic S5 is much larger and heavier than XT50. Trust me on this, I don't know how you compare the sizes. Also, S5 does not have PDAF, which is a huge thing for those who do C-AF and tracking moving subject a lot, both in video and stills. Not having PDAF made the S5 almost crippled, and the S5 II fixed that. That is the reason why it is selling for so cheap now, because why get S5 with all the focusing problems, when S5 II fixed that? XT50 is still offering a few advantages over the S5 - higher resolution, smaller body package, superior AF system.

I’d rather get the X-T5 for basically the same price.

Fuji basically launches this XT50 to push the price of XT5 back to its retail price. It was cheaper before the launch of XT50.

Just wait for the X-T50 mark 2... they will fix all the missing / annoying things from this new camera.

@@robinwong The no-go for me with this camera is the film simulation dial... not sure what they were thinking about really. An ISO dial would have been better. I do own an XT3, I like it a lot and a Lumix GM-1 with primes (my go-to pocket monster).

Expensive, gimmicky film sim knob, no weather proofing, small battery, one sd card slot. 😢

This is a mid tier camera. Yes it is overpriced, but I don't expect mid tier camera to have dual card slots, or larger battery. If you want the best of the best, go for the flagship option. Fuji has a few.

Because there are higher level cameras from Fuji. So it is mid level. They claim it themselves.

Come on, this is a ridiculous comment. Mid-level means it isn’t targeting a budget consumer nor is it in their flagship line. It is in the MIDDLE. Shooting video is hardly noteworthy any more and this is missing too many video centric features to be considered seriously for that.

The pricing depends on what you are looking for. If it fits the photographer's needs perfectly, it won't be overpriced. Just because a camera is not suitable for you, it does not mean it will be bad for everyone else.
