Facts
In 2017, the X-T20 price was $ 750 and X-T2 was $ 1,600. Now the price of the X-T50 is $ 1,400 and X-T5 is $ 1,700. 86% increase in the X-T20 line series and 6% increase in the X-T2 line. It's crazy. I am very disappointed with the price. I will keep my X-T20, an X-T5 or an X-H2 maybe a new future Nikon Z-90 are more competitive I saw the X-Summit and it seems that now the future of Fuji is the GFX. 2 cameras in 2 years with a bonus telephoto lens. The X-T line 2 digits and perhaps 1 digit will die because Fuji does not make them competitive compared to the Full Frame competitors and will no longer make efforts to make them competitive. It is no longer the priority of Fuji, I understood with the X-Summit that the new events will have to be called the GFX-SUMMIT
@matt88169

What in your opinion would make the X line more competitive? The release of the 40mp sensor (with average/poor readout speed) suggests to me they are still willing to push the limit on APS-C. Is it the pricing? For me the 5th gen bodies have all been lower quality, higher price. But the newer lenses have generally been stellar and priced relatively fairly.

I bought a used X-T2 for $650 in early 2020. Still don’t see a reason to upgrade. But yeah, new prices are disappointing. If I were buying new now, I’d probably go for a $999 Nikon Z5 instead, with a $899 f2.8 kit lens and call it a day.

Ok, so the real Fuji mistake for the X-T50 is not that it has a FILM dial, but that the FILM dial positions doesn't store the associated JPEG FILM SIM settings like shadow/highlights, etc. as you pointed out. It should really have done that, if Fuji was going to have that dial. That's the real UX design bummer here. I hope Fuji fixes that.

I think it's pretty critical to the performance. I know the intention is to be simple and have you shoot out of the box simulations with everything set to 0. However, in my experience everything set to 0 is either too extreme or a bit too flat. Every simulation needs a little 1 or 2 point nudge somewhere to look just right before I feel comfortable to switch from one to the other on the fly. Also, since their glass is pretty inconsistent in colour and contrast across the range you kind of have to adapt your settings per simulation per lens also. It would be nice if zero was a nice middle neutral point on all simulations. Being able to hit +5 Color on Velvia when 0 is pretty bold already kind feels like wasted space on the scale.

Very pretty camera; love that dark grey color. But otherwise, not tempting in comparison with the XT5: no ISO dial, no drive-dial, no D-pad, single card slot, smaller battery, lower resolution viewfinder, one tilt-axis less and no possibility to save recipes. The sim dial is a novelty, but not something that I'd use much, I think. It's also smaller than the XT5, but to me, that's not a benefit, as I use some bigger lenses as well. Great balanced review without trying to polarize. Thank you
It's a very advanced camera with all the bells and whistles like IBIS, 40 mp chip and the good looks. That comes with a price not realistic I'm afraid. Fujifilm be careful! Thanks Omar for another great review and video. Bhtuuuthuuuthuu 😅 You're the best here on KZread!
Thanks, Omar! Love to see ibis and thanks for pointing out how the sim dial was useful to you and its limitations. On my x-t30 I typically ride astia knowing that I will be fixing my shots in post anyway, but I plan to get to the point where sooc is good and that’s when I might really enjoy the new dial. I really only ever used the drive dial rarely, mostly switching from video to single pic so having a q menu button for that would be adequate. It is clearly better than my x-t30 but I haven’t even mastered that yet so if I am updating it won’t be for a while, and having never owned an x-tx I’d love to try these bodies in my hands to see how much the size difference matters. All the best!
TBH I disapointed. I've waited for - dedicated dial for my recipes (as x-h2 has), - fully articulated screen to make it usable for vertical shooting, - high screen brightness for outdoor photography (at least like the cheapest android phones has), - weather sealing, - custom LUTs upload to boost their gorgeous recipes feature. And all I've got is simulations dial 🤦♂

Thanks for the good explanation! :) When I worked in an outdoor store the Gore-Tex guys told us that the breathability of the fabric will be best, when the outside conditions would be about 20 Kelvin below the inside conditions. Weelll, usually you wouldn't sweat that much when these conditions are reached, I surmise... So this Gore-Tex has it's applications, like cold alpine conditions when too much water inside your jacket will over time cool you down too much. But for the average nice weather hiker a combination of some windproof jacket and an umbrella will be best. You pointed that out in another video. Good work as always!

Hi Omar, nice to see that Fuji finally acknowledged your work and now you have review units. You are now the “Cool kid” ;) I hope that this will not influence your honesty about Fuji products. For full review I would like to see Eye Autofocus test in continuous mode, because this is something Fuji is struggling. I wonder if they fixed / improved something in this area.
Love the addition of IBIS in the smaller package. I'd gladly trade a film-sim dial for a drive dial with Still, Movie, Burst, and the C1/2/3/4+ recipe concept. While a film-sim dial would be fun for a new FF shooter for the first weeks, it'll quickly become redundant, unnecessary, and could be better served by a tactile control that can quickly enact greater functional change. Honestly, if I could have just have the form-factor of an OG X-T20 (same megapixels even) with IBIS and great face-tracking AF, I'd be really happy.

Excellent first-look walkthrough as always Omar, thanks for sharing your thoughts! I love the slate/grey colour. I also like the idea of the film sim dial more than I thought I would, but you’re right - major miss by Fujifilm in not making it store recipes. I’m not a major user of recipes myself, but I imagined the purpose of the film sim dial was to cater to that community (as you mentioned) so not having it customisable/smart in that way feels like they only went 50% of the way to their goal. Still, IBIS and the 40mp sensor in a body that size, not bad!
Great camera and design except, in my opinion, for the film simulation dial instead of a dedicated ISO dial which I find more useful. Otherwise I can't wait to test it out and thanks for sharing!

Hi Omar, quick question. Do you need the fastest Fuji primes to get the most out of the new sensor?
So what can you put on the FS1-FS3 slots on the film simulation dial? It feels pretty useless to me, when it can ONLY set the film sim itself. Also the pricing is insane. For a pretty small price upgrade you get an X-T5 with WR, a three way tilt screen, and a bigger EVF. I expect the prices to drop quite dramatically or would expect this to sell badly. I own the Fujifil GFX 50r, a Nikon Z7, and now an OM Systems OM-1. I LOVE the OM-1...!!! Small, light, so many computational features like High Rez mode (80 MP's!!) and the ND filter mode, excellent Image stabilization-- and the Olympus lenses are small, light and fantastically razor sharp! I have not put down this camera since I bought it a few months ago. I also have been through a number of Fuji APS-C cameras starting with the XT-1... then moving to X100s, X pro-2 and XT-3. Finally just sold the whole lot. I liked the film simulations, but I shoot RAW and honestly a good film simulation software (like Dehancer, DXO film pack, Exposure 7, or RNI) offers so much more in terms of color, fine tuning, grain, halation, bloom, etc. The Fuji APS-C just got boring to me.
Totally agree with your worries abut the film dial not storing film recipes. I'm a long proponent that Fuji should embrace filme recipes - is a thing that it bring a lot of people to Fuji. The problem with the current way to use recipes (with the C custom settings) is: I like to have my C positions with specific shooting scenarios (portrait, action, concert, etc), with shutter speed, ISO settings and other shooting parameters specific to that use case. But if you are using the C with Portrait settings, with some recipe, there is no way to keep using these seettings and change you filme recipe (changing from a Portra one to a B&W). You have to waste another C position with all the shooting parameters being the same, just changing the film recipe. With just a firmware update (for all the Fuji cameras), Fuji could create some Custom positions inside the film simulation menu. There you could store your recipes, and switch easily between them, in all shooting modes, custom or not. In the case of the X-T50, store it in the FS and C modes of the dial. It would be a huge point. The Panasonic S5s and the upcaming S9 do exactly that, but with LUTs - you choose the "film simulation" (in the case, the Color Profile) and you can choose a lut to put over it, right on the screen options.
Hi all, In terms of image quality does anyone know how the the 40mp apsc Fuji sensor compares to the Nikon zf 24mp ff files? Is there much of a difference in dynamic range, low light and overall detail? Thanks
Can you still program a custom recipe into the Q-menu?

The X-T5 has weather sealing, multishot, a larger battery and two card slots. I have said it in many postings: Fujifilm should have added weather sealing and IBIS to the X-T30II and call it X-T50. Oh boy, I hate your videos because afterwards I think I need a Fuji again 😂🙏🏻 Thanks for the review mate, it’s everytime fun, cheers and keep up the good work 👍🏻
I have the XT five so this is interesting but makes no sense for me. PS love your videos Omar keep it up.
Thanks for this video ❤ just a question because I'm not sure if I understood 😅 Can I save Fuji weekly recipes with this camera??

Yes, the custom slots in the menu are still there.
Thanks for posting this! I briefly owned the XT20, mostly based on your recommendation, and I loved the size and output, but I didn't like the shooting experience because of the slow operation and poor viewfinder(for me). I'm curious to know if you can perceive a difference in the speed of the camera and the refresh rate in the EVF. Thanks! ~A life long aspiring intermediate photographer ;)
How do you switch between photo, video and burst mode without that dial? I really often used command dial for this. And I’ve never used film simulations so it’s change for worst for me

The drive button.
For all around amateur photography which would you recommend: the xs20 or the xt50? Are these two about the same price?

Why Fuji specifically?
Honestly super bummed they added IBIS. Huge appeal of my XT20 is how light it is.
Once the price settles (ATM this is only £150 in the UK cheaper than the XT5) it may be worth a look, If both the X-T5 and this were at original price, then the X-T50 with kit lens is £50 cheaper than the X-T5 body only... however this is not the case. I quite like the film simulator dial, on my X100VI (which maybe my favourite camera ever) I have the command ring set to film simulator, and it is fun and easy way to change. I often use the film simulator as the base for editing my Raw photos.
I do like the XTxx line and the specs are great. I'd buy it over the XT5 just for its size, but the price hike is too much. I'd expect weather sealing at the very least.
Since you don't shoot it... may I have or purchase your X-Pro2 Graphite Edition? I live in Thailand... I'll cover shipping of course. Thanks Omar. 🙏🏻

It's a beautiful camera, and the IQ is awesome! However, I think I'll stick around with my X-T20 for travel. Still love the IQ, and it's good enough for travels. But when the X-T 60 is out, I'll get a used XT50 as the upgrade.
I got the XT30II a few months ago just to carry when I hike and travel a lot since is so light. I almost got the S20 but was out stock for a few months everywhere. Now this XT-50 is nice but still old stilly 126s batterie still just 2.36 M dots viewfinder another step down + the worse from fuji @ 1400.00 Crazy. Will wait for the XT5 to go on special and large batterie 3.69M dots viewfinder. @ $ 1100.00 price I will have consider
Great video Omar , I think the camera is too expensive tho, sadly
I'm still happy with my XT20.
what battery does it use NP-W126S or NP-W235
Yeah!!!
Compare three 4O MP cameras: XT50 USD 1400, Nikon Z7ii USD 2000 & Sony a7Riii USD 2000 = no brainer 😊!
The day of the announcement upon verification of it's price i went and bough an xt30ii with 15-45 kit I also ordered the 27mm wr The pricing policy of Fujifilm is crazy these days....
