A lot to unpack in this video. I’m gonna share my experience. TLDR is that the X-T5 is the best X-T camera. I started with Fuji at the X-T1 and have upgraded to every iteration since. The X-T1 was downright magical at the time, but the grip just slophed off quite quickly. Mine is held on by gaffer’s tape. I upgraded to the X-T2 after my X-T1’s sensor got damaged by lasers at a Mix Master Mike show. The X-T2 was/is simply amazing. It fixed the grip issues, was faster and had way less lag, and is just a wonderful camera. I shot sooooo much with that camera that by the time the X-T3 came out I had replaced the shutter and screen on the X-T2. You might think that’s a bad thing, but I shot the hell out of that camera. The screen had to be replaced because the ribbon cable broke due to how much I flipped the screen out. I wasn’t even mad about it because of how much I used it. I got the X-T3 when I shipped the 2 out for repair. The X-T3 became almost perfect after a few firmware updates. It crashed a lot at first, which was frustrating. Once it got sorted out it became a legend - I still use it as my “family/vacation” camera to this day. The only thing it missed was in-body image stabilization. So naturally when the X-T4 came out I was overjoyed… I hated it. The screen killed it for me. The size increase was understandable at the time but it was enough to change the essence of it. I still use it as my #2 for concerts and events because the image quality is impeccable, but the screen and the damn dial locks that don’t fully function make me have a love/hate relationship with it. The X-T5 though? It’s just perfect. The speed, the accuracy, the image quality, the screen, the size, the battery life. It’s just perfect. I have cracked the screen on it, so while it’s possible that it could be a “build quality” issue since this is the fastest I’ve damaged a camera, but the fact is that I do not baby these cameras. It’s scratched up a bit already ‘cause I’ve brought it into circle pits and tight crowds a LOT prior to the crack. My opinion hasn’t changed though. The X-T5 is a joy to pick up and use.

I just bought an x-t5 a few weeks/a month ago with the sigma 56 f/1.4. I was coming from the canon m6II with the same lens + a few others; I don't edit my photos at all, so the in body film simulations have been a great change. Excellent video 👌 totally agree with your video here. And as an owner of xt5, xt4, xh2 and gfx 50r I can state that the xh2 is definitely a lot more of a robust and professional camera than my xt5 but my xt4 seems a lot more robust than the xt5 body wise but the rotation dials feel a lot more solid on the xt5 ! Also I’m more inclined to the gfx as a pro camera where the files are amazing to work with and after using my gfx camera the files out of the xt camera feels like images that are out of my cell phone 😅. I’m really waiting for a new 50mp gfx camera to be released as I need the speed for event work so that I can switch over full time to medium format for all my work as a 50mp sensor is the sweet spot for my kind of paid work

Mine's lasted well over a year so far really well, although the power switch and the focus mode (S/C/M) both got a bit stiff recently. So I sorted that with a tiny bit of silicone lubricant (as silicone doesn't attack rubber or plastic). I've no idea what caused it, as I usually avoid dusty areas etc.

The XT5 has been my main camera since I got it about a month after they came out. It has performed flawlessly. The new Fuji silver finishes don't seem as robust as the older ones, probably green now. I have a silver X100s I bought new in 2013 and it's been around the block a few times and it's still pristine. The 40mp image sensor is fantastic and easily rivals 45+mp full frame sensors in the comparison tests I've done. Ian Worth has a great video comparing the Canon R5 to it and that was his conclusion as well for landscape work. DXO Labs raw conversions really get everything possible out of the 40mp sensor. The 16-55 2.8 is awesome. I'd love to give the GFX a try, but my Oregon Lottery Retirement Fund tickets haven't paid off yet... 🙂🙂

If this happens, I am fairly certain I will do it. Your scripting on your video is great, good talking points and zero meandering or talking about your cat (or dog or whatever; no offence to them). It's so much fun that it has prevented me from getting a ZF. Although the ZF has terrific low light and AF capabilities, it does not feel great in the hand like the XT5 and lacks the screen I like. My only gripe with the XT5 is the terrible paint quality. The thing scratches quite easily.

Color grading is easier with more dynamic range, because when you add a grade you are adding to the shadow detail. Often I will pull the darks out of an image before grading, so I don't wind up crushing the blacks after applying the grade. With more dynamic range, you have more latitude to do this. Hope that helps!

I also tried out the X100F for a personal project. I had it for about 10 days, but after about 4 days it stopped working, as it wouldn’t focus. one of the best/most honest reviews ive seen. good job. i am thinking, if you need a fun cool camera and especially if you already have fuji lenses, it is a good buy. i'm also thinking the better buy in 2023 might be something like a sony full frame such as a7r3 perhaps. it is older but gets rid of almost all the quirks of the fuji. canon can be great, but i will never use them again do to the fact that they ban third party lenses. so, both companies have kinda pushed me to sony. wee will see soon when i upgrade, but i don't think it will be sticking with fuji. by now, they should have definately fixed the autofocus to match a 5 year old sony, and they should definately not have moved backwards with build quality, and, almost all their lenses are too expensive and slow focusing. they need an update. i would miss the film recipes the most.

Good in many ways , but I pretty much stoped taking photos (outside of work) with it and lost 80 percent of my passion for photography. It’s just to much machine and functions, it’s great to get focus on point each time, but other than that I don’t see more of it as a photographer and not a videographer. With this said, searching for a while again, I noticed I was not the only one loosing my passion with Sony, and people where talking about this Fuji xt5, so I just bought it and I’m exited to try it out, I haven’t sold my Sony yet, but will probably sell it because it’s just not for me anyways,

Well, I have no complaints or quirks about this camera. I bought it last year, while it was the newest baby in town. "You have the X-T5? Already? At its prime price? Should have waited for the X-T6? to get a better price. Hey, I'll have to come to your house and have a look at it!!!" So, out of its box she comes, to my coffee table, and there come the ah!! and oh! from my guests. "May I.."? But, of course, go ahead and have a feel!! (Since I previously have taken off the memory card, so they can only shoot some clicks away) So, there we are, with this great conversation subject, which brings old stories about other Fuji models of yore, and how fabulous these cameras are , while we alternate biscuits and espressos. The evening ends well with empty promises about we should go out and shoot some one of these days, yeah! I know that they are hating me in their minds. No problem, I think they are suckers of the Fuji Cult. Back to the box it goes. Her performance was peerless. Yeah, it rekindles me the Leica Cult back in the silver halide days, when I bought my R4-MOT Leica equipped with Agenieux zooms. My intention was to join the local Leica Club in order to learn more about Leica from these old timers, who looked like seasoned photographers. I was admitted to their Saturday session to be introduced to the Temple. Well, yes, I went and to my surprise, when I was thinking maybe to subscribe to a workshop or to some technical jive talk, I was given a calendar of activities for the near future, such as a sugar shack supper, a walk in the city, a coffee house's taste of croissants and espresso, etc. BUT nobody was taking pictures. These were camera slingers from the red dot denomination. There's something that I've learned from these past experiences: Leica, Hasselblad, digital Olympus & Fuji cameras are not designed with the action or sports photographer in mind. They are dedicated mostly for the ARTISAN of the image: the one who doesn't shoot, but the one who MAKES images. The fast shooting gallery for warriors and sports belongs to Nikon and Canon. A year has already passed since I bought my X-T5. It might have accumulated maybe 50 shots. She's working fine. No complaints. I strongly recommend this model!

Love this! As a portrait artist, this is in part why I gravitate towards Fuji. Sure, it's no AF king like Canon or Sony, but it inspires my artistic expression, and the interface works like a camera should. Are there compromises to be made? Yes, mostly in AF but there is also less dynamic range from FF, but for the way I shoot, and subjects I capture, it is the tool I always gravitate towards.

The 75mm is the only lens I have that I feel confident in on eye AF, the other lenses I have are great for street/landscape/auto work. I tried using the XH2 on my HS shoots but really upset at the lack of keepers so I stopped using it unless I was in a place to use the 75mm. I've absolutely hammered mine but amazingly it's scratch free. Yeah and I've slipped on rocks falling in the sand and tripped over a couple of times but it's scratch free but I think I've just been very lucky in terms of my long-term review for a landscape photographer. I cannot recommend this camera highly enough and I agree with everything that Pete said you will run into some problems with dynamic range when you really try to push the files, too hard with highlight reduction or shadow recovery?.... But this is easily fixed by bracketing or using ND filters. Should you need to? For me I've tried the camera also in some other circumstances at corporate gigs, some sports stuff and general photography and I've really loved it. It is interesting because I'm 53 and came from the film days so immediately I had this camera in my hand I felt comfortable, but I can understand how someone feeling new to Photography. This is probably not your camera..... It is a photographers camera even though it does quite well in the video stakes as well. But I cannot fault the image quality extremely sharp and a decent amount of dynamic range. It's no full frame but it's better than most crop sensor cameras I've used. Where is the trade-off well you get a lighter body that fits in the hand really well. I would recommend putting an L bracket on this camera even if you are a portrait shooter because this will keep the camera brand-new so if you ever do want to sell it down the track, it will look shiny. There are a number of third-party brackets online at an affordable price. I've tried it with multiple lenses and the camera is great. I think it's a camera that can pretty much do everything really well it doesn't have a super strong focus in terms of what it's really excellent at it. Just does everything exceptionally well and I think that's great. Thanks for your in-depth review once again, always quality balanced. I've had the XT5 for a year, using it several times a week. Problems: Sometimes when I take a long exposure, like 5 or 10 seconds, the processing freezes for a minute or more, so that I have to turn the camera off, and the image is total garbage. Sometimes when the shutter dial is locked at the auto setting it will jump to 1/8000, which I don't realize until I've already taken the photo. Frustrating.

for me, the dumbest design choice in x-t5 is the mode dial... who the hell signed off on the HDR being on the end of the chain? Don't know how many times I got confused while trying to do some rapid shooting just to realised that this dumb dial turned in my bag and now I have to CAREFULLY set it to single shot mode... So many times I was tempted to use some superglue on this dumb dial :( . Other things like the back screen that can't be flipped down (or 180) I can grind my teeth about but it doesn't impede my shooting that much. But that dial... :(....

@@PeteCocoPhoto so that's quality control / usability design issue. People laughed at Apple when they mentioned that they spent months perfecting the stiffness of the laptop cover hinges in combination with magnet strength. But that's exactly what makes or breaks a product that relies on human-hardware interface. And X-T5 can be technical marvel in terms of the processing unit, sensor, EVF and whatever else, but if tiny things stand in your way and make or break your 'decisive moment', all the other things just don't matter. It's like bragging about a massive PC with the most powerful graphics cards etc...etc... but it has a tiny flaw - it can reboot by itself at random. Then it's not the best PC in the world, is it? :) I will stick with x-t5 for a bit, as I can't afford anything better (and tbh, recently my passion for photography faded a bit) and maybe xpro4 will be the camera worth waiting for :)
