You have to give Fuji kudos for pushing boundaries in their niche and finding ways to avoid direct conflict with the big 3 camera makers, smart business model, "move where the enemy is not" a tenant of Kung Fu I studied for many years. I recently went shopping for a corvette and visited a dealership with the state's largest inventory of corvettes, as the salesman walked out to the lot I said just show me the ones with manual transmissions, he replied "oh but the automatics are so good today they shift faster and better than you can manually" I replied "I am buying a corvette to see if I am still good and test myself I already know the car is good before I ever stepped foot in your shop" I think the x-pro3 is for people who want to test themselves not the camera, mostly all the cameras you can buy today are excellent and will get the job done, the "fault lies not in the stars but in ourselves" 💖

Yes... Sometimes I wonder why all this rat race... I am not a military man in a life critical mission, needing "100- rounds- a -second " gun... Anyway, as human as human we are, some of us want to take a pause and ponder/ introspect why all this... Some of us do that in every art form right from music, car, etc... May be some of us want to control the machines that try to take control over us or, we try to control machines that we make... Or may be, just a musing, we feel enough is enough... Analogous way of our human life is torn into " bit, byte and pieces"....

I find it interesting with today's unbelievably fast cameras that there are enough photographers out there that want to slow down a bit and enjoy a Retro Style yet fully modern camera. Manufacturers working with photographers for decades have created the extraordinary modern camera. Speed of controls, blazingly fast and accurate auto focus and ISO flexibility etc.. along with high frame rates, WiFi connectable and the absolutely phenominal ability to review your images or see in real time if you captured the moment! The industry for years successfully eliminated ISO Dials, Shutter Speed Dials and Aperture Rings from cameras, moving them under your fingertips for instant change. Then they utilized that now barren real estate with secondary controls in which most can still be changed without the need of removing your shooting hand from the grip or moving your eye away from the viewfinder. DSLRs like EOS-1DX II or the Nikon D5s are like wizard wands in the right hands. Cameras Like the Sony A9 are truly magical in operation and with what you can get out of them. I am forever grateful that we have such tools. Yet, cameras like the Fuji XT3, X-Pro 3 or Olympus Pen F exist for the pure enjoyment of photography. Lets hope that never changes.

There's this thing going on that everything new is better, and that's a LIE.That also has not resulted in more camera sales, nor even smartphone sales. There's a fine line between needing more, and having enough already, and we seem to be there. In other words, yes I want some tech, yet I also want to slow it down, compose, and use the old and new,to make even greater art..It's the same thing with shooting and then post.If you shoot great in camera unless there's a NEED to do a lot of post, you just do not have to,period. No matter what you put inside cameras, they cannot replicate having an eye,an artistic side, and bending rules randomly..

Just as there is two main types of surfers ' the slashers ripping up a wave and the soul surfers grooving on what the wave gives them. Fuji's system is like the Soul Surfer. It let's you enjoy the ride. That's how I feel about it.

In this digital age of glass screens and algorithmic photography, I've always enjoyed that Fuji strives to give me something analog, at least in some fashion, in their cameras. I want to fall for competitors equipment, I want to be swayed by higher megapixels, perfect eye tracking, dynamic range, or some other statistic of the moment. But every time I pick something else up, I feel like I'm using an appliance more than a beloved tool. I don't make money from photography. I've no client's to please, or deadlines to fulfill. I make sure the practice of taking pictures occupies a space as far away from those concerns as possible; and photography for me needs to be enlightening, inspirational, challenging, and most of all...fun. This new Fuji looks to be just that.

Like you, I'm most interested in what the improvements in the EVF/OVF have to offer, and whether there are incremental but significant advances in other aspects of the camera that improve the joy that I experience shooting with my X-Pro2, which by the way, will still be a fantastic camera the day after the X-Pro3 goes on sale. All I know is that Titanium is very difficult to work with so that will immediately transfer to increased cost. However to counter that magnesium is very brittle and when used in thin walled applications can be easily cracked. So using titanium could mean having a thinner walled body than an equivalent magnesium one that could with clever machining and or casting be made to be lighter and more durable. On the other hand titanium could be used to add a certain cachet and make the camera more desirable. Guess we’ll have to patient and wait.

Hugh, on my X100F, I use the optical viewfinder with focus in "M" mode. Put the square on the subject, press the back button for an instant until the square turns green, recompose, and think about the picture instead of focus until you or the subject moves. That's very, very close to the Leica experience. It's a button push instead of lining up the rangefinder. But the rangefinder doesn't really tell you anything that the green square doesn't. They're both totally arbitrary constructs that help you measure the distance to the subject. I assume the same technique will work on the X-Pro.

The EVF/OVF is important to me as well. I would love to have a bright frame for the 16mm range. And eye relief for the VF in general. If this is not provided then the XP3 might not be a good fit since reliance on VF will be more critical for usage. I would love to see my primes work on the XP3 like they do on the XT3.

It’s dangerous for my wallet... 😅 I was waiting for a camera like that for long time. Ticks all the boxes for my taste here : - compact size and weight (not too big) - rangefinder style - tilting screen (don’t like side full articulated ones) - good viewfinder (especially for glasses wearers) - Apsc or bigger Only few tick my boxes : Leica CL and M10-p (loved them since I have the opportunity to try them in a Leica store, but very pricey and no tilting screen), Fuji GFX50R (except the size and price) and now, the X pro 3 is just beyond my expectations ! This screen, always protected and just tilt the way I like. And a small settings screen, brilliant ! Love it. I will watch the October announcement very very carefully... 😍

I am searching a camera to have with me all the time... Like T.Overgaard’s leitmotif : "always wear a camera". An this Fuji fits perfectly with that. The titanium body helps too. Always looking at and almost buy the Xpro 1 and 2 but every time I am holding them, that small keyhole viewfinder kept me away... Now let see in October with the new one. I am just a little afraid of the price... Titanium usage mean lots of complex and expensive working.

I can shot everything with this system. From clean, sharp "professional" images to pictureres which are deliver my style, the look and feel i like straight out of cam. I dont miss full frame and i sleep kind of well with additional 7k on my bank account and I dont need to buy overpriced film and spent much money on developing and scanning 35mm.

I had such joy shooting the x-pro2. Gave it up though, due to the viewfinder. I’m left-eyed with my shooting, and the viewfinder left my nose smudged against the back all the time. The other thing I didn’t like too much was the new double dial. So the x-t2 and x-h1 remain my preferred cameras. If my right eye was working well, though, I’d still buy one. I don’t know about the low-end cameras but their top end cameras always inspire me. I’ll never stop desiring a full frame Fuji, though. Preferably 4/3. It’ll never happen, but still... it passes a pleasant quarter hour to muse upon... with a mocha in a nice cafe.

I have very mixed feelings about this. I don't like the idea of a company forcing a decision to purchased based on shooting style of a photographer. This design is so unique I feel they have already called into question whether you as a shooter can accept this idea. That design forces a decision that shouldn't be there. That will effect sales. I don't see how that can be seen as a good thing. Yes, yes I get the idea that you're supposed to shoot now, edit later... but that idea will necessarily cut out a large part of someone who might have been "XPro3 curious". The rest of the camera I'm not sure is really that much of an improvement. Yes, it's better than the XPro2 of course it must be just because it will have a new chip... blah, blah, new film sims, blah. But really when it comes down to it, the real (only) news here is the screen idea. Well, they've done their job. Lots more people are talking about this camera than might have before had they just released a straight-forward upgrade to the XPro2. I love my XPro1. I'm a part time news/sports shooter for local newspapers and former staff photographer at a number of papers including the San Francisco Examiner so my basis for expectations for camera gear is based on being a editorial shooter. I work quickly on assignment. While I'm shooting I need to see frames I've just shot so I can check focus, framing, lighting, white balance, etc... this camera design gets in the way of that workflow. I don't know any news shooter who doesn't "chimp" between frames on assignment. They (I) need that information quickly because this is a tool. A tool needed not based on our own "I can take my time and I don't need to know if I've gotten the shot" self-centered needs. It's a pragmatic job... I need to shoot and move on. This camera design gets in the way of that. And especially since the size of this body and associated benefit to a news shooter... it's small and unobtrusive-which means the subject is less likely to react to me and therefore i'm MUCH more likely to get valuable photos because of the range-finder-like design I find it doubly sad/annoying that I now it doesn't make sense for me to buy this camera. I recently switched to the Fuji system from Canon based on the form follows function benefits of the XPro1 rangefinder design. I've been waiting to see if what camera I should buy next to add to my gear. I have the X-H1 and XPro1. I wanted to get the newest XPro body and hoped that I would be able to benefit of the current focus system and newest chip design. Now... what am I left as options? I can get a last generation XPro2 which would be good enough... but... well, I'm disappointed I have to settle for good enough. I wanted the XPro3 so I could take advantage of Fujis (what I perceived to be) forward thinking design. But they're very much looking backwards here. I lived through the era of shooting film on assignment during the early part of my career as a staff news photographer. I lived through staffing up the SF Examiner and I bought all the gear for the paper when it was reformed in 2001. I've always tried to moved towards new technology. A screen on the back of a camera so you can see what you just got isn't just a frivolous thing. It's not a luxury. It's a VERY helpful development for a news shooter.

Slot Car News Official a wonderful addition to the conversation - thank you. Of course, with an EVF you can always see what you’ve done by looking through the finder - which is what I do when I need to with a Leica M10-D (with Visoflex Typ 020 attached). But I am not an editorial shooter nor an event shooter, so I doubly appreciate your perspective! 🙏🏻

I'm torn. I just dropped my X-Pro 2 and the shutter release popped off, certainly not up to the durability standards of a press photographer, but I feel that the features of the X-Pro 3 would make it a perfect secondary camera. As you said, it's unobtrusive and lightweight, which is impossible with DSLR systems. That already is a huge plus to me. It opens up a world where people aren't reacting to your freakishly huge DSLR. It's also silent which means you don't have to carry around a blimp. On the other hand, one would have to buy a complete other set of lenses ... well, I've already got a couple. And to your point about being able to review your photos, the X-Pro series feels like a tool that is a little more intimate, what a chisel is to a hammer, or a paint roller to a brush. During portraits, I'm not checking my screen for my exposure because I can see the results in the OVF. My face isn't obscured and I'm maintaining interaction with the subject. And the rangefinder body just looks dope. DSLR's can't be beat in news gathering, they're reliable, but this little camera might be the key to access in some situations. You walk into a room with a chunky DSLR and lenses, you're instantly flagged as press. You walk in with one of these, and you might be able to get something different.

Someone from Fujifilm a few years back claimed that IBIS wasn't going to fit in their existing models, and they also seemed to have some issues with the relative size of the lens mount flange. Clearly the X-H1 is relatively large, but I tend to doubt that explanation, given that the X-Mount mouth is only 2.1mm smaller than Sony's E-Mount and Sony's got IBIS in their FF cameras.

@@Kev2Bee I just bought a used X-Pro1 for around $300... crazy low price for such a camera, but I suppose it is a bit unusual. I don't have any actual Fujifilm lenses yet... that's a bit more of an investment, but I'm having some fun with adapted 39mm lenses and I did buy one all manual lens for $80. I've been into Olympus for six years, and for a long while found Fujifilm the only other really interesting system for my needs. With the recent assurance that Olympus is not planning a Pen F II, this seemed a worthy experiment. While I have had several Fujifilm X-series P&S models, I'm still more or less getting aclimated to the Fujifilm way for this camera... and for a camera nerd like me, that's fun!

I love your tendency to analyze into the in-depth methods and meanings of photography, and to cut through to the things that matter. “Fujifilm is serving a different target market.” I think that simple fact is so key here. It seems there are a lot of comments spilling forth across the internet from people who a) expect the X-Pro3 to be a camera for everyone, and b) think that they are themselves representative of “everyone.” Fuji has designed a camera that is appealing to a particular type, and isn’t overly concerned if customers exist with preferences that fall outside this camera’s target, or even if the majority of potential customers are likely to not find this particular model ideal for their methodology. Hopefully enough will. And that kind of assessment and targeting of a market is good business: they’ve made a product that’s truly distinct rather than incrementally different from a dozen others. Ignoring the people who demand everything for everyone in every product is good business. “They don’t want you to use it as often as most photographers do theirs.” I think Fuji is seeing Leica’s bold move and realizing there is a worthwhile market for cameras that place more distance between the digital and the photography. But to some extent, as you suggest, they might also be hoping to evangelize a little and encourage some towards a more focused approach. More than most major brands, I get the impression that Fuji really loves photography and wants to serve it well. Personally, though this camera is beyond my reach, I feel like it was more or less designed for me, or my “type” at least. Years ago I “downgraded” (not really) from a bigger Canon to a Nikon D5100, and one of the things I LOVED about it, and still enjoy when I do use it, is that its flip screen can be left hidden until needed for review or settings changes. I could have just left the screen off while shooting, as I do now with my Fujis, but something about having a step between me and the screen felt very focusing, in addition to the comfort of knowing the screen is tucked away from belt buckles and zippers. Screens are obviously useful in digital photography, but I think hidden screens are beneficial to the process of photography, at least for my “type,” which Fuji seems to be recognizing here.

Great video. One (ok, two) comment about the XPro3's unique display (which, shockingly, I haven't seen brought up elsewhere): the standard adjustable display, more often than not, is a liability in my street photography. Let me explain. I have two main reasons to use the back display. First, to check settings (if I'm going to chimp, I'll chimp through the EVF where I can really get up-close with the image). Second, to get low-perspective shots or shots I, at 6'4, otherwise can't (and by otherwise I mean almost all). On my X-T2 it's certain every time I go out to shoot it'll get left on and either draw attention to itself or drain the battery. Having the display concealed is like having a safety on a gun. It limits operational downside risks without impairing the camera's functionality for the stated philosophy of use. To use your own words, this further reduces the distance between photographer and intent. /For the stated philosophy of use./ The other thing I find interesting is the message Fujifilm sends to the market. In the past, your choice of Fujifilm body was based on preference: do you like SLR, or do you like rangefinder (and later, do you shoot video)? For all intents and purposes you could easily substitutable one for the other. However, here they've made a deliberate design choices that benefits one customer segment as the expense of all others. This is a street photographer's camera. Full stop. What might this say about a less than hypothetical X-H2? And what kind of deliberate design choices might they make to it benefiting one particular segment over those not currently covered by the X-T3 and XPro3? And the announcement about the 33 f/1.0 being scrapped in favor of a 50 f/1.0... I'm not a betting man. But if I were, I'd say Fujifilm is in the middle of a very large strategic pivot.

As an unashamed Fuji shooter and aficionado - though far from a blind fan boy - and have to give Fuji credit for making the latest version of the X-Pro an evolution of its spirit rather than the just usual morph to more megapixels, a higher frame rate, and better focus speed. Those things look good on the spec sheet but make little practical difference to the audience to whom Fuji has targeted this range since Day 1. Taking the LCD out of the normal composition/review loop is absolutely in sync with that philosophy, and say what you will, the little rear panel status screen in the form of an analog film box top holder is just whimsical enough to avoid being gimmicky, and is a great way to sum up how this camera is to be used. On the topic of rear screens: I chose my X-T1 and X-T2 over the XE- and X-Pro models in part due to their ability to tilt, which I find invaluable in getting low to the ground shots. At 23 I would have been on my belly making those shots; at 53, I’m pleased to bend down and get back up without making any noises. And while I otherwise don’t use the rear screen for composition or reviewing and keep the EVF in “EVF + Eye” mode, I wish Fuji would add an option that would keep composition in the EVF while allowing LCD to come on when you press the Q, Menu, or Playback buttons; trying to navigate the menus when you have your eye to the EVF is inconvenient, and necessitates scrolling through the EVF/LCD combinations too often.

Hey Hugh, I hope this will clarify why so many are offended by this tilt screen design, bottom paragraph if this is too long: Over the past few days, I've been dismayed with Fuji's decision making, and folks in comments sections tell me that the x-pro series 'wasn't made for me'. This is strange to hear, because I used to be the exact target customer for this line: -I shoot street and events -like a small system, only shoot with primes -loved the grip and ovf of the x-pro2 after less than 20 seconds of handling the camera -prefer a edge-mounted viewfinder and shutter button on top for shooting from the hip -want weather sealing -want faster lenses than what m4/3 can offer -am stunned by what Fuji has been able to achieve with 4k60 video in such a short timeframe, having a good video body along with stills would be a treat only a few things were missing: -tilt screen, I shoot from low and high angles ofter, as well as from the back in the normal position -IBIS, even with a DSLR, I would try to handhold irresponsibly long exposures, nice to have a camera that just lets me do that. Also makes lower isos viable in many situations, effectively giving you more light. Bonus points if the subject blurs a bit, love that effect. So I decided to hold out for the x-pro3 or 4. It is impossible to deny that this screen can't tilt down or be used in the normal position. There is nothing that it does better. A regular tilt screen can be turned off or display a small film reminder. Also the d-pad is gone, and the troublesome iso dial is unchanged. So I'd like to respond to some of the things you said here: 'fuji xpro 3 as doubling down on a concept, the process and joy of taking a photograph' Doubling down is only good if it improves the camera. Consider reading the press releases for the x-pro1 and x-pro2. The first camera was sold on the technical prowess of the system, the AF, the lenses, etc. The second existed in relation to other lines, so the marketing was all about the ovf. It is clear that fuji thinks of the x100, x-e, and x-pro lines as part of the same family, because they gained an af joystick at the same. They all lack a tilt screen for some reason, (probably compactness). So what exactly is Fuji doubling down on with this screen? The fuji product manager repeatedly referred to a night of drinking that brought us this design, and I agree, you'd have to be inebriated to think this was a good idea. He mentioned wanting to remove the screen entirely, stopping just short. He claimed that x-pro shooters were looking at the lcd too often, so this decision is doubling down on a paternalic approach to design. It is reminiscent of 'you're holding it wrong', and removing the headphone jack because of 'courage'. 'encourages you to be the best' No. New gear acquisistion or a body design may give you temporary motivation to shoot, but laziness in photography is a personal problem, not a hardware problem. 'photographic instrument, not a hybrid' Have you tried shooting handheld video with something like an a6000 or panasonic GX85? It's lovely. You can have 3 points of contact with the EVF, and can open the other eye to keep awareness. Almost as if good design for stills is good design for video. 'The x-pro3 announcement is a reaffirmation of Fuji's profound respect for the photographer' Funny you should mention that. Good firmware support and explicit response to feedback gave me that impression before this announcement, but the announcement itself is an insult. Note the catchphrase 'pure photography'. It is an insult to those that regularly switch between lcd and ovf, telling them that shooting that way is artistically impure. Never mind that one doesn't always have time to put the camera to the eye, no LCD for a chance at the shot is bad for all users, especially street shooters. More on this below, but now fuji is playing explicit favorites with who gets to have an ovf. 'no rear panel is statement of intent' Yes. The intent is to separate if from the x-t and x-h line (they said so themselves), not by adding something, but by taking away. It is as if Fuji shooters held the monkey's paw when wishing for a tilt screen and got this. As for the overlap of the lines, that is good for the consumer. The X-E3 and X-T20 are arguably redundant in market positioning, but they offer customers a meaningful choice in body design. 'they don't want you to rear panel as much' That's not their business. It is clear that they got negative feedback from photographers from this in testing, but ignored it. Pay attention the the moment that one of the photographers they brought to the x-summit tried to tilt the screen down above his headk, then gave up. 'kudos to fuji for embracing their inner whimsy' Yes, kudos. That whimsy has GIVEN us the excellent dial control scheme. It has GIVEN the hybrid ovf. One can call this screen whimsical, but it's a step back in functionality. 'I like being reminded of my youth and the joy of discovery' Oof. What can I say. How important is this? I mean, it does nothing for those born after film. 'not being tempted to chimp' You still can, easily. The EVF displays images fine. Once again, if chimping is worsening your photography, don't look to hardware for the solution. Definitely don't ask for a solution that will hurt other x-pro users. 'xt-4 xh-2, will these two lines merge' Gosh, I hope not, for other's sake more than my own. The X-T is cheaper, has all the dials, and has a small, slr-style body. The X-H is made for the heavy lenses in the system, like the 200mm, and for slow-moving DSLR converts, (or those with big hands). 'imply there would be no video whatsoever' Why. Even if the camera overheats, people would still like to use this sensor and processor that they have paid for. Those asking for no video are being so focused on the imagined purity of their own experience that they would gouge at others. I think the x-pro 3 needed an actual body redesign, not this screen. The pull-up iso dial that nobody praised is still there? Did you know that fuji says it takes 21 parts to make? All to emulate another film camera. Yes, it is possible to have all three dials separate, have a look at this concept: www.fujirumors.com/the-perfect-fujifilm-x100f-designed-by-fr-reader-andreas-and-its-ovf-less/ Even if they have to be together, can we have a clutch design? Click up for iso, click down for shutter. The buttons are still small, and some are in the wrong places (placing any button right of the thumb grip is a mistake). You might get the impression that I'm trying for a perfect x-pro for me. Oh no, if I had my way there would be an aperture dial on the body, disrupting the clean line of the top plate. It would have a linear lens turret to enable quick changing between two primes. It would have the x-t100's selfie screen. I'd love it, but it would be a monstrosity that many others will find unusable. That's why I only feel justified asking for stuff that will help, or at least not hurt other users. This is all happening because the x-pro line has acquired 5 user groups simultaneously. Pros like the combo of weather sealing, dual cards, and ovf. Unexpectedly, fashion photographers have come to like the camera's look and feel, Street shooters like something actually designed for their primes. Film nostalgia types like it for obvious reasons. And purists/minimalists like something that gets out of the way, so dials + ovf is a natural fit. Yes pleasing all these groups is hard, but it's possible. This screen helps the latter two groups, but stomps all over the former. So now fuji is only giving the ovf to an narrow slice of customers, the type that will accept further cuts like this uncritically. I can understand liking the idea of this camera, but it offers the tiniest aesthetic considerations, for cutting off actual functionality. Have you tried handing a camera with no screen to someone else for a quick shot? Makes that experience more fiddly and awkward than it already is. And yes, there are many valid reasons for wanting a screen that does the normal position, not just the waist-level one. That's why praising this regression has consequences. It lets camera companies get away with more nonsense, like using this same mechanism on the x100 and x-e series.

I get the idea of not viewing the screen as you shoot. I don't see what the new design offers that couldn't have been done by just allowing users to turn the screen off, and/or having the screen show simplified info. Simpler solutions are better. The screen could have tilted up if they wanted to offer a waist-level shooting position.

Some fascinating thoughts here Hugh. I spent a lot of time trying to choose between the X-T2 & X-Pro2 after taking a creative photography course with a lovely teacher who was a confirmed Fuji man. After my soul-searching I chose the T2 because it felt more 'conventional' and the centre positioned viewfinder 'worked' for me in terms of both a comfortable location in hand and brightness, clarity, ease of use etc. However, I keep looking at the Pro2 and my heart tells me it might just make me get out and take more pictures which, after all, is why I own a decent camera in the first place. I never, ever, use the rear screen for anything other than the odd settings check and a, very rare, chimp if I'm in a tricky lighting situation or playing with slow shutter speeds for motion effects. In fact the rear screen often annoys me because I'm worried about scratching it or getting smears on it - I'm one of those people that wants to keep it sparkly clean even though I don't use it! The advances in the T3 weren't enough to make me upgrade and I used my money for the, wonderful, 10-24mm zoom instead but the Pro3 seems like it might be the one to make all the difference. The screen looks perfect for my use and if it's lighter and the viewfinder is significantly improved that may well tip the balance. I have a birthday coming soon as well. . .

Your experience exactly mirrors mine. I chose the X-T2 over the X-Pro2 on the basis of preferring the view finder and wondered ever since if I made the right choice. I'm keenly looking forward to the X-Pro3 but this time I will hire one for a few days rather than make a choice based on comparing cameras for ten minutes in the shop. The only danger with this plan is it could result in deciding I need both camera bodies.

As the saying goes, it's the photographer not the equipment. Manual lenses on modern AF camera's further test the photographers ability. The fastest lens is zone focusing, but requires more skills and pre planning. Also, camera's and it's equipment never go out of fashion, just for different uses. All the way from manual film to digital AF, there's a camera and equipment for everyone and different purposes.

I’ve been shooting Fuji for several years now and I’ve never been more baffled by them. Based on the early and confirmed “rumors” I don’t know any current X-Pro-2 shooters who are excited or are planning to get the Pro-3. As laid out it addresses almost none of the issues most of us have (battery life, IBIS) save the improvements to the EVF you mentioned. Since this isn’t an intro camera it begs the question... who is it for?

Tom Scott You make valid points. I suspect if one already owns and is happy with a ‘2, the ‘3 will not be a must-have upgrade. But the same psycho/demographic cohort who held off on a ‘1 or ‘2 waiting for a better viewfinder and/or tiltable rear panel may be enticed. I am intrigued.

@@3BMEP Overall I really love my X-Pro-2 and it's quirks, although regarding the fiddly ISO/Shutter Speed dial the best I can muster is tolerance. When I got back in to photography I had a serious case of G.A.S. But that's a slippery slope, and the next new thing is a temporary fix at best. Part of me really wanted to at least want this camera, and part of me is relieved I really don't. I can't see that changing on October 23rd. They could have kept the quirks we have come to know and love and fixed or added the features most people wanted. Instead they addressed one issue and added even more quirks. I just don't see the end game in that. (BTW, cool Road ID bracelet. Great product)

“What it clearly won’t do is offer any help when shooting with the camera overhead, as if in a crowd… “ Lament not Hugh. You can indeed do an excellent Hail Mary, camera-held-overhead, with the X-Pro3’s upward facing LCD. Just hold the camera upside down! I have done so with great success and visual predictability with my GFX-50R. You get significantly more height, direct access to the shutter button and to my mind a more comfortable and stable way to shoot overhead in a crowd than with the camera upright. And yes, the view display is right side up, as the world did not flip, just the pipe that it came through.

I suspect the price will be the same unless manufactured in China so could drop like the X-T3, but there will be a premium attached to the black and titanium dura coats, in fact bet on it. I would not be surprised to see a $200 tack on and I’d pay that. I’ve read that Fuji has miniaturized their version of IBIS so it would fit both the X-Pro3 and X-T4. If this is true do not look for an X-H2. My guess is this was something rushed to market in order to have an IBIS body out there and nothing more. I have one and it’s a great camera, but did not sell. Too big, heavy and without the features to compete against Sony video capability. Fuji’s market share is about taking advantage of the smaller sensor and making smaller, lighter bodies and lenses. If the X-T4 has IBIS with no substantial increase in size and weight then where’s the niche in the market for an X-H2 unless they pull out the stops and make it a seriously competitive video monster? I have no idea what that might entail since I don’t do video and wouldn’t do the X-H2, but some might. I think the “H” in X-H1 stood for, “hurry up.” Look for the drop down LCD and mini screen in the X200 so you can tear off the end of the film box (I’m like you, I love this stuff) and since they’re upgrading the lens, the ELF and making it WR take all bets offered the designation will be, X200, not X100V. No brainer here.

Fuji has too many big lenses to get rid of the X-H line. The 100-400, and 200mm prime are lenses that demand a big, slr-style body. They're too good at video to not have a body with IBIS. Yes, I think the XH-1 is riddled with ergonomic blunders (needing two dials to have fine shutter speed control is a holdover from other camera lines, the joystick is hard to use with gloves), but the idea was sound.

@@1fareast14 You have a point. I have a T2 and T3 but love hanging my 56mm and 23mm f1.4 on my H1, but I also have an Fuji L-bracket grip for the T2 and the larger lenses are just fine, plus I have the option of taking it off when using the WR f2 Fujicrons. The IBIS, size, larger grip and useless little screen that replaced the exposure comp all look like they rushed something out that looked like a SONY. It's an a7 configuration. Could they keep going in that direction? Sure, but business is about actually selling stuff and the H1 didn't sell so why would an H2? If you make something that didn't sell you don't do that if you want your stock holders not to come for you with touches. As I said in 1st post, Fuji has a niche, small, light, retro, well made, film simulations, etc. This is Fuji and they are not going to knock Sony off their perch. Different customers. Go after Sony on their turf and ask Nikon and Canon how well that went. At current prices, the H1 is now selling very close to - not wholesale - FACTORY cost which is usually somewhere around 40% of retail. They had to do that to hold onto shaky retailers stuck with inventory collecting dust. Will they repeat that? I'm thinking, no, but then again the kept the stupid angle on the Pro3 dial deck so anything's possible.

I just got an X-Pro3. I've had a couple X100's and a Pro2. I may be one of the ten people that actually use the OVF so my request is statically HUGE. On all the other hybrid viewfinders I've used from Fuji, in the OVF mode the parallax frame lines move to compensate when the shutter is 1/2 pressed and return to the neutral infinity position as soon as the shutter button is released. On the Pro3 I have, The parallax correction moves the framing box but DOES NOT RETURN TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION. This is VERY annoying when recomposing the next image at infinity after many years of muscle memory stored with the other Fuji Hybrids. If one close focuses and the frame moves to the lower right it remains there even when the camera is turned off and on again. And besides, it just ain't natural, Mate. I called Fuji support and they appeared clueless but only said they'd pass it along. Since you have a popular channel I thought perhaps you may get more attention.

The X-T2 is a very good camera and I think it’s ability to hold price is due to the fact it’s become a Fuji cult camera being maybe the last made in Japan. If Fuji is smart the X-Pro3 will say, “MADE IN JAPAN” as well. They’re attempting to attract the high quality market with titanium and putting them together in China could defeat that. Simple way to prevent the X-Pro2 competing with the 3? Stop making them. No ones carrying a huge inventory anyway. I think the market is saturated, hence the big fanfare on the 3. Largest cameras store in Central Florida doesn’t even stock them anymore. The shelve in the back room will clear out in months if not weeks. (Unless they make the 3 in China. Then all bets are off.) Speaking of titanium: Sure as hell will be lighter than the M-10 bricks made out of thickly milled brass which went out of style in the Bronze Age because by the time you could bring your sword around they guy with the iron version had already sliced and diced you.

If they really mean it honest with photography, why not recreating a manual focussing line. To build even smaller lenses like the Leica M-Series lenses with extraordinary quality? With IBIS to make it even more perfect for low light and street photography and landscapes after sunsets? I always do manual focus but it's hard with my prime lenses at night to come to overall sharpness without noise. But spending 15000€ on a Leica Set-Up where the body is definitely not worth the price (because since digital technology there is no uniqueness) to use this extraordinary lenses, that doesn't make sense. So if Fuji would be consequent more about photography I guess that would be the way to go. Build a line with lenses about photography but with the top technology make the images crisply and clear, just supporting your skills not dictating them. Would love an manual focus lenses line for my X-T2 but even more with an X-Pro 2 like camera with IBIS.
