    I print my pictures at A3 size. I retouch my Raw files and watch them all in a 65 inches 4K TV. There is a huge difference between 24 and 40 MP. And we all can see it in my big 4K screen. The 36, 40 MP are way more detailed than the 24, 26. It's just a huge difference in details. And it is right there for anyone with normal vision to check! Yes, 40 MP takes a bit more of space, and instead of waiting for 1 second, I am waiting 2 seconds for saving the photos. And what? The quality is so much better, the details are astonishing! I do mostly wildlife and landscape. Man, 40MP are a must!

    If you actually need it (like you do I can tell) then y’a, I mean it is MILLIONS of additional pixels - don’t give me wrong! I know what more megapixels means LOL. But I (yes - ME) don’t need them. I have been shooting with the GFX100s for a while (102mp) and it’s just too much. So again, take MY opinion with a grain of salt and if it is good for you - go for it. Take care

    @@cris_photography 100MP is too much. The 50MP medium format is enough. But talking about the X-H2, sure 40 MP is ok. And we can shoot in one of the "crop modes" 16x9, 5x7 and get 36, 32, 26MP out of the camera. But you can still shoot at 40MP whenever it is critical. And I mean it in any system and sensor size. Sony, Nikon, Canon, Panasonic full-frames can allow the same thing. I still shoot my wildlife photos with my D500. It has 21MP and I miss having more details in my little birds. There is no better autofocus in the market, though. If you shoot small birds and, more than that, if you shoot flying hummingbirds, just buy one D500. It never misses. It delivers perfect autofocus. But my D500 has almost 500 thousand shots already! It's almost time to change it and I hope FUJI can help me with this new 40MP cropped sensor, and also have hoped for the Auto-focus to work well.

    I’m definitely enjoying my X-H2. I was like you and preferred to focus and re-frame with single point focus, though, I’m doing it a little differently now. The AF is so good in continuous focus that I’m now using the tracking mode for most of my shots. I focus and reframe, but now my focus point is being tracked. It means that my subject is free to shift and move around, but my focus point stays there same. I’m loving it. Eye AF has been wonderful for my portraiture and when shooting single subjects. Image quality is excellent and I love the level of detail it catches. I’m very happy with my purchase.

    isn’t a 4k TV only displaying 8.8 MP (3840x2160)? maybe there is something in the TV’s downsampling from either the 40 or 24 megapixel source files that are causing the difference in details. that is pretty interesting!

  • @cris_photography

    Thats an excellent question! Did not notice a notice improvement nor a worsening of low light performance, ie it’s ok. I had the same concerns but using it at the wedding for example the iso was about the same as an XT4 if I had to say, but I didn’t actually compare clinically side-by-side. Would be a good test to do in fact - thanks for the question and take care

  • @matt88169

    @matt88169

    Contrary to popular nonsense on the internet a bigger sensor or more MP, all else equal, yields better low light performance. XT5/XH2 probably look worse pixel peeping on a screen compared to the 26mp sensor but when you scale the images/prints correctly more MP tends to look better/sharper/cleaner especially if you need to print larger. The real problems with the 40mp sensor, from my point of view, is slower readout, slower AF sampling, and downgraded to 13fps on the electronic shutter (for no crop). But the extra detail/dynamic range is a nice change. Ely Roberts has a great video comparing the XT5 to the GFX 100S - its crazy how well the XT5 held up. No question it is the noisier "low light" camera though.

    I received the H2 on Friday and got to use it in a 'real' event on Sunday. (Also used X100V and X-T3). I used the 50-140 for the model runway photos .. AF-C, 1/200th and ISO 6400 (very dark ballroom). The autofocus was very fast and the Face/Eye Detect was crazy good, even picking up eye from a side view ... Had a few minor issues when in portrait/vertical mode as the eye detect seem to bounce around a bit and a quick flash of a rectangle around the entire body .. which is usually a square for face detect .. however, given that I had just received the camera and hadn't had much change to take a bunch of test shots. Normally I would have put the high ISO shots thru PureRaw 2 but it doesn't support H2 yet, however, the images looked pretty good in Capture One .. .and I put the resulting JPGs thru Topaz DeNoise AI .. good results .. For the organization asking me to photograph the event (voluntary) I downsized to 1920 on long side ..

  • @ams914

    @@billcoughlin5664 That square around the body happens deliberately. It has happened to me shooting landscape as well (don't ask me why I was on AF-C for landscape haha). I think it's just the camera finding a subject or guessing which part of the image you actually want in focus. Or it's like the "runner up" option if it momentarily can't find an eye of a face.

    I own the XH2s and used it for a portrait shoot with the 50mm f2. I shot both outside and inside. Shot a couple hundred photos, every photo nailed focus on the eye. It was such a joy to use. I also used it for sports photography in a dimly lit gym, and the tracking worked very well with the 35mm f2 and 50mm f2. I will say though that you probably get the best autofocus performance if you tweak the custom AF-C settings to stick to the subject more and ignore distractions. I always do that and it definitely helps a lot.

I own the X-T3 and really love the dials, but feel this X-H2 can bring something else to the table including improved autofocus, 40mp, ibis. I pondered if I ahould wait for the X-T5, but feel the change of body type may benefit me in certain scenarios. I am on the fence of choosing x-h2 / x-h2s or A7iv. I am worried about rolling shutter. I shoot all kind of things. What if I photograph someone when a car drives by? That might look warped? • @professionalpotato4764

    @professionalpotato4764

    Жыл бұрын

    You just have to set up an excel sheet with the body and lenses you need. Fuji isn't lighter than FF until you go super telephoto. The only lens that is lighter is the 100-400mm vs Sony 200-600mm. - 16-55 f2.8 vs Sony 24-70 GMii, *[1.44 lb / 655 g VS 1.5 lb / 695 g]* - 16-55 costs almost the same as the 24-105 f/4 (which has OIS, but is not as sharp) *[24-105 1.46 lb / 663 g]* - 23mm f/1.4 vs Sigma 35mm f/2, *$900 vs $640 [13.2 oz / 375 g VS 11.5 oz / 325 g]* - 33mm f/1.4 is heavier than the Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 (and not as sharp as the cheaper Nikon Z 50mm), *[12.7 oz / 360 g VS 9.91 oz / 281 g]* Idk about you but in my area the Zeiss regularly goes on sale for $500 brand new. - New 56mm f/1.2 WR looks good actually, due to the close MFD. Most 85mm lenses on FF have a MFD of 80+cm, or a smidge under 3 feet. The 56 WR is around 50cm. - 50-140 is more expensive and heavier than the FE 70-200 f/4. *[2.19 lb / 995 g VS 1.8 lb / 840 g]* There is not a single wide angle zoom that takes ND filters so if you want to shoot vlogs or something, there's only the 10-24 f/4 which is too dark imo. The only reason to buy the XH2(s) is for burst speed, colours, video codecs (ProRes RAW and BRAW external), and "uncropped" 4k60 since there's no sensor crop involved unlike the A7iv. If you shoot indoors with wide angles, you may need 2 sets of lenses for 4k30 and 4k60. The A7iv only maxes out at 6fps burst vs 40fps on the XH2S for full bit depth. For 10fps on the A7iv it's 12 bit lossy RAW. That said, XH2S AF is not good enough to support 40fps and seems to perform well around 20fps. As for X-Trans worms, I use Iridient X to create DNGs before importing. It's an extra step, but I prefer the Lightroom workflow. If you intend to use C1, it's no issue. Rolling shutter... is not as huge of an issue that people make it out to be. Films have been shot on slow scanning sensors before. How many whip pans have I seen doing quality checks on films/dramas at work? Only once in the last year. As long as you're not using the a6600 series it's fine. There's no perfect system. Both are killer cameras with different strengths and weaknesses.

    I am the same. XH2 or Sony A7IV. Have shot with many Sonys and still have lenses. Bought XT4 earlier this year and recently sold it. Beautiful camera, beautiful files. Except for the one’s that were ruined by “worms”. Found I was doing lots of cropping too. Held the XH2 in the store today. Couldn’t do much more than that, because where I live, there are no XH2 available for sale yet. Just pre order available. It was the only model in the store, in the box, brand new. Then, once again tried the Sony. Great fast auto focus, nice light camera, but no special camera effects like multiple exposures or focus stacking or any of those creative things. I took an SD card with me and will compare the files to XT4, Sony, and a Nikon I tried out, and see what differences there might be. I would recommend going to the store like I did with an SD card and do the same. Check the cameras out. I should probably go with the Sony because I have some lenses, but I also like the idea of having film simulations and creative modes in the camera. Tough choice between the two and I still haven’t decided. Then to top it all off, the XT5 and the Canon R6 ii came out lol. That’s what happens when you watch all these You Tube review videos though. FOMO Anyway, the woman at the camera store said this new cameras coming out right after others and wondering what to get or if your timing is wrong, it will never end with cameras and camera gear lol.

It's a bit below your eighteen but if the binning algorithm works well, I can see it working. Of course, that would require camera makers to embrace phone concepts. They are not there yet. It's clear that they still exist in the more is better universe with no computational photography in the camera itself.

    @@cris_photography Thanks but, except when dancing at the reception post wedding, you're not likely to encounter rolling shutter issues. I would never use a MS in a church during the ceremony....

    Hum.. yes you might and I would not risk a photo over a shutter sound - different priorities I guess. Also, I use MS always at the church and I count over 100 weddings - never ever been an issue. Also this is not a DSLR so the noise is not nearly as loud as it used to be. I would not use ES for lower shutter speeds (even the manufacturer advices against it - otherwise why would they still have a MS?) It’s good to get different people’s opinions - thanks!

    @@cris_photography Sure. I generally take surreptitious street photos so am more sensitive about sound but having done quite a few weddings too I just find being invisible and with no sound just suits my style. And I've never had rolling shutter or any other issue because of using ES...

    The biggest reason for not using ES indoors is the banding you can get depending on the lights. Especially LED lights

    For a reporter as I am, custom settings can be really, really useful, course there are circumstance when you have to change not only shutter speed and aperture, but also white balance, ISO and what not, all of that within a fraction of a second. You can't repeat that work, nor do you have time for second guessing. Let's say for example you are at the wedding in the church, and there's a venue just across the street. Yes, if you are skilled, you can change all those settings while walking across the street, if you don't have to shoot along the way, running. But I'll rather avoid that stress, and use previously recorded settings and concentrate onto pictures...

    Hi Chris, good review. At the moment I am on the fence with regards to 40MP on an apsc sensor. Also it was very disappointing to read that a lot of my favourite lenses cannot take full advantage of the resolution from this sensor. As for the PASM dial not really fussed as I also use a Sony A7IV. However if they ever put that on a XT or X100 body I will sell all my Fujifilm gear.

    Honestly, the profiles shouldn't be on a wheel at all. They should be in the user interface. What might be useful is if you set those profiles up and the camera can select from them to make a decision about how the next set of shots would look best, that would require some AI to be built in to do that evaluation and reading to current environment somehow to find a profile that would be a best fit. Again, computational photography. which none of the camera makers really embrace whole-heartedly.

    Why don't you just use the electronic shutter if noise is a concern?

  • @cris_photography

    @cris_photography

    Жыл бұрын

    There are MANY reasons not to use an electronic shutter for all purposes. Here is one from the Fuji website directly: “When shooting pictures of fast-moving scenes, there is often time for a subject to move slightly as the electronic shutter closes line by line, and this can cause some pretty strange-looking effects. The propellers on aircraft appear to bend, for example, and the wheels on fast-moving cars can look oval. You’ll also notice problems in the background of images shot with a panning moving-camera technique.” You can go check here for more information: fujifilm-x.com/en-gb/learning-centre/electronic-vs-mechanical-shutter/

    @@cris_photography Thanks. I've heard of those effects but wondered how common they actually were. I'll have to play with my own camera. I wonder if a lot of that can be mitigated using high shutter speed, which I guess means it "scans" faster.

    I will never understand why you don’t use eye/face focus, still using focus points. You are being hard on yourself for no logical reason at all, actually it makes you more likely to loose candid moments, focus and recompose is wasting time. When I used old DSLRs and did focus/recompose, I would take about 2500-3000 pictures per wedding, now I take with eye/face detect focus at least 6000 pictures, some weddings did 10000 pictures. Focus/recompose makes you less productive, no doubt about it, I experienced it.

    Hold up, you don't want to buy a CFexpress card if you don't need one Fair enough but if you own a X-H2 and you want to use all of it's features then you need a CFexpress card. I would say if you're not going to use the features that require a CFexpress card don't buy an X-H2. Buy an X-T5 instead.

So while I’d go with a T5 instead, I kept my T3 which works just as well for me and I shoot almost everything with my SL2s lately. Take care Ps: what do you shoot with?

    Why? There are VERY specific cases when you need to zoom in or make posters. Other than that, takes a lot of space for no reason. Leica did it right with the DNG file selection on the M11 so WHEN you need it you can chose to use it. Otherwise it’s just a feature you HAVE to use and have no choice. Might be good for your work - not for mine (40mpx or even 80 for a wedding is pointless - same for real estate for example). Thanks for stopping by!

And custom mode options on the dial are a reason NOT to buy this camera??? So you prefer a camera with less options? Makes no sense

    2 things; 1) there are a TON of different photography fields. Of course that doesn’t apply to ALL - use a grain of salt! 2) I don’t want more options - how’s that a problem?? Maybe YOU do - i don’t! So what - should I go around judging you now? How weird dude

  • @danielarmstrong2144

    1) something that does apply to all of photography: higher resolution means more flexibility and the potential for sharper more detailed images. So you have to wait a second longer in exporting. Big deal. It's beneficial for every field of photography. 2) you not wanting more options doesn't mean that the camera is bad for giving you options. Having more options is never a good reason to not buy the camera, even if they're options you won't use. I'm never going to use bird/train autofocus but I'm never going to look at a camera that has it and go "that's a reason not to buy for me"
