The Fujifilm X-H2 vs the real world in Vienna, as XT user

Ғылым және технология

I've had the new Fujifilm XH2 for a few weeks now and although the experience have been mostly positive, there were a couple of things that, as XT user, were quite annoying. Join me as I walk around Vienna to find out what works best, and what doesn't.

    Hey Carlos, thanks for this review. I always enjoy watching tech reviews, cause for me as a humble amateur especially in high class photography I more often than not get lost in all the specifications written on the camera descriptions. And the point where you talk about 8k recording, I honestly see that on a lot of models.... even my phone is supposed to record in 8k, but it is rather unusable unless you use a gimbal. Anyways, thanks for the updates, looking forward for more!

    hey Matt! thank you :) most of the images in this video were shot in RAW, but I usually start editing by adding Classic Chrome/Neg as profile. In some other cases (photos taken during the walk), I used a color profile I created some time ago that tries to mix features from Classic Neg & Classic Chrome. The one thing that keeps me from using JPEGs more often is that I can't shoot in continuous if I add clarity effect.

    I absolutely love your review! Not only that- You should be an example of how and what a reviewer should be presenting a camera specifically. I don’t wanna watch some wanna be “expert” showing how he/she holds the camera, and how good or bad looks in their hands. So ridiculous!! This is a perfect, honest, precise for the “regular” non-pro user of a camera, and make the decision for your self if you like it or not! Not being persuaded by some paid KZreadr that will tell me-if it’s a Great or Horrible camera. Show real footage samples (just like you did here) and I will decide if it’s for me or not! Great review! Salute you 🍺🍷

    @@wikdmessenger maybe massive wasn’t the best word, but it’s also a matter of perspective too. When it comes to rolling shutter and high dynamic range in certain modes, yes, the difference is pretty big. Hello Allen! Even though Fuji has decreased the base ISO, the truth is that it doesn't really have an impact on real world usage. I set my max ISO to 3200, but I try to stay under 1000. And regarding your second question: the few times I used flashes were simply to get a very specific look, otherwise I don't really use them.

    Hello, your review is very enlightening. As an amateur, I would like to consult you on a subject that I am quite ignorant about: I am mainly interested in macro and wildlife (flying birds, animals) photography. Is the rolling shutter problem a valid situation in photography? Although I don't use video very often, I was a little uneasy. My second option is the X-T5. Does this model also have a rolling shutter problem?

    Usually my automatic max ISO is 3200, but that's really the worst case scenario. Since you asked, I just checked two files shot at 3200 and 2000 and… well, it's very noisy. I'd try to stay at 1250 max, which is only a bit more than the base ISO of 1000 for FLOG2.

    09:20 Great review! I wonder: How much is the rolling shutter affecting normal filming? All the examples I see of the rolling shutter of the XH2 is where it is violently panned from left to right, but this is not a realistic scenario. But how much of a problem is the rolling shutter with normal filming?

  • @carlosdomi

    @carlosdomi

    Жыл бұрын

    I am afraid I disagree. I've been using two GH5's bodies for work for three years and although the GH5 is a great camera, the image quality is far, far from what Fuji offers on the XT3, XT4, XT5, XH2 etc… For starters, the color on Panasonic is muted and "pale", and there's no possibility of shooting log unless you put another 100$ extra to update the cameras. The autofocus is an absolute mess: no need to mention the GH5 is completely unable to track anything in the image. And last but not least, the GH5 gets very grainy very quickly, making extremely difficult to shoot in mid to low light conditions even when a 15mm f1.7 lens. The IBIS, though, performs much better in the Panasonic when it comes to panning/tilting. GH5 was and still is great, but already in 2018 there were cameras with better image quality and features.

    @@carlosdomi i understand what you mean but i edit my footage. You can do a lot if you are good in editing/color grading. , same with photos. When i edit a picture you dont see any difference to good full framecameras..The gh5 natural profile looks great straight out of camera if exposed right. And it does just that, it looks natural with accurate colors. The af could be better i agree but for my boudoir videos its good enough. I film my models with no problems at all. Street videos like you do here are easy, i just get my olympus pro lense to infinty and turn af completely off as everything will be in focus. No hunting, no problems. I learned that you have to learn your gear to use it to its full potential and any camera has pros and cons. XH2S offers a better low light performance, that's for sure. Now, wether if it's enough of a difference to justify purchasing one or the other, that's up to the user. I couldn't compare XT4 and XH2 directly, but the first impression was that the XT4 could handle low light conditions a bit better, but I might be mistaken and/or the difference is minuscule.

  • @ams914

    @ams914

    Жыл бұрын

    I'm pretty sure the lowlight vs megapixel idea has been debunked, and coming from a T4 I can't tell you that I haven't noticed anything wrong with night shooting other than being amazed that I'm somehow shooting at 1/6th of a second handheld LOL. And if there is any noise, well, the film look is "in" right now anyway, so many are going to be adding grain to their images regardless of how clean they were when they started. The H2 won't disappoint. If there's a difference, only a pixel peeper would notice. And if you're pixel peeping, you're probably missing the point!

    what recipe did you use?

    in this case, I didn't use a particular recipe, only some basic settings I like to use before editing. I find that recipes work better in very particular light conditions, and sometimes I struggle to adapt them.

    The information LCD screen...isn't it like the electronic ink like a kindle?

    The Kindle uses an e-ink kind of display, this one is a traditional monochrome LCD, more like a Casio watch.

    I feel that the exposure on many still images is incorrect, ie overexposed. So far on seeing XH2 reviews I cannot justify 'upgrading' from my excellent X-T4.

    well, assuming that I wanted that look and no other, there's no "correct" exposure I am afraid. Also, you might be mistaking a very hazy day with a clear sky.

    Nice city but video in most parts sky is overexposed and my x-h2 does it as well which is really annoying and pisses me off. I think its of that 40mp sensor. Actually even ergonomics doesn't help to like this camera

    Hey there! The sky is on purpose exposed like that since it’s not a clear sky but a very hazy one. There was no blue color, just a bright cloud of haze/fog. I haven’t had any issues with exposure.

    For someone who loves Fuji color science you got your video skin tones messed up, did you choose the correct white balance? nasty magentas

    as someone who dislikes Canon for its magenta tint, I don't see any messed up skin tones here. But if you are talking about that last piece to camera, that comes from the single light I used

    I have to admit that in some cases it’s my fault since I’m actually moving. But the truth is that in both the XT4 and XH2 (and XH2S), the IBIS doesn’t really work well when panning slowly, or filming “around” an object. The GH5 and Canon R5 that I’ve used in similar environments performed much better.

    Dude, this is a 2000€ camera that shoots fricking amazing video, it is not a "photo based" camera. It is fully hybrid. Get your facts right. XH2S only advantage is less rolling shutter and 4k 120. Dynamic Range is almost identical (Gerald Undone) I've seen ALL the videos comparing and you cannot tell which camera is which, only in dark dark situations where the stacked sensor is slightly better.... 500€ better?? No fricking way!!
