Fujifilm finally made a cinema camera

Фильм және анимация

I freaked out a little bit when this camera was announced, but is the Fujifilm XH2S still a strong option in 2023? What is the image quality like? How does the XH2S perform in low light? How much dynamic range does Flog 2 allow? What are the ergonomics like? All will be answered in due time, so please sit back and enjoy. I appreciate you stopping by, and I hope to see you again.

Open gate isn’t just good for “fix it later,” it’s also really useful for stabilization in post, cropping 35 to 50mm 16:9 you can get a gimbal-like effect

This camera is massively underrated. Fuji’s new addition of the XS-20 seems to be spot on as well for amateur or new starter film makers. Mad specs on a great little platform. Glad they’re getting the recognition they deserve for all their hard work. Great video.

Only drawback is the 1250 base iso for flog2. Makes daytime exposure more difficult and more noise to contend with, even if it is cleaner. Hopefully the next gen will have it around 640.

Dude! So glad i found u by pure coincidence! This video is basically what i needed to finally pull the trigger on this gem of a camera, as i am switching from the BMPCC6KPro to a lighter system wanting a look, solid IBIS, AF etc. But most of the example footage of others on YT ain't great due to them grading the footage into trendy vintage super grainy fake super8 bull.... i rented the XH2s for a day but wasn't able to get great footage out of it, guess there is a learning curve. I find that the IBIS system seems to work best with non-native lenses (once the focal length is specified manually in the IQ menu). I haven't done any scientific comparisons, but it always looks and feels much more natural to me for whatever reason. I'm happy you made this video - it's amazing how quickly dismissed and underrated this camera is relative to the competition, and you are really nailing it's strengths here and I agree with you on all fronts.

I totally agree. When I am using manual lenses on Fujifilm bodies I sometimes even reduce the stabilization a bit (For example: when using a 50mm lens I tell the camera body it's a 35mm lens) and I like the results a lot more than native lenses. Also thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it

  • @davidsikula3488

That's an interesting point about "reducing the stabilization - I generally seem to get the best results when I "match" the literal focal lengths, but I'm going to revisit this and experiment more. I work with a speed booster on some FF lenses as well and I find it stabilization always works better when I apply the "math" (i.e. 35mm FF with a .71 speed booster I would set at 25mm in the I.Q. menu).

This is also why people tend to say that Fujifilm noise looks so good, because color noise is suppressed. This is also applied to JPEG images. It’s only avoidable in photo raw images unfortunately. When I learned about the chroma channels denoising issue I couldn’t unsee it in my own footage hahaha. He's talking here about the XH2s as a cinema camera, where you almost never would be using AF. Same with IBIS. In terms of video-centric features, it's a complete package. Points for me include usability features such as being able to punch in to preview focus WHILE recording, incredible image quality, open gate recording, pro-res internal, 4k 120, incredible battery and rolling sugar, and to top it off amazing LCD and EVF with brilliant photo features. for video this camera is already incredible value, but the fact that it outperforms pure video cameras such as the FX30 is insane.
