    Thank you for this turorial! Very clearly explained what the difference between a bayer and a x-trans sensor is. I am a big fan of fujifilm cameras/lenses and own an xt1. Finally I know that my decision to buy this camera was right 😊

    Those clustered green pixels are probably the reason why x-trans produces really poor results with landscapes with lots of fine details in vegetation. Not a single RAW converted handles it well.

    Don‘t use LR to convert Fuji-RAW‘s (X-Trans sensors). Adobe is not up to the task. Capture 1 does a superb job. The difference is mindblowing!

    Well your comment is a year ago but LR fixed it's mushy Fuji RAW's and Capture One was handling RAF files even better than Fuji's recommended apps.

    They breakdown really fast as you climb the ISO range. Even as low as ISO 400 the images would start to degrade, but at ISO 100 they were very impressive.

    Except my Pentax K-1 and K-1 ii gets by just fine with no low pass filter for its Bayer array CMOS and it’s well known for its image quality. I realise this video 4 yrs old but my K-1 is almost that old. A lot of the higher end cameras are now ditching the AA filter. I do have Fujifilm X-E4 too and it’s good, but can’t match the full frame 36mp CMOS Pentax which isn’t surprising of course because it’s not comparing apples to apples

    Sold my pentax After buying my Fuji. Can't say it's one thing. It's the way they operate. The Colour with the simulations. The best native Apsc lens line-up(No this is not open to debate) The Tonality in B&W images. The build quality. Their commitment to existing products by firmware compared to adding mew bodies for every new gadget.

    The benefits of the Xtrans sensor are pure marketing and don't exist in reality. Fuji cameras only exhibit less moire because of extensive colour noise reduction the camera performs on the raw files. The xtrans sensor produces greater amounts of moire and sampling errors (before noise reduction in camera) than a bayer filter because the regular repeated part of the structure in the colour filter array is a larger 6x6 tile than the bayer filter's 4x4. The detail xtrans filter arrays capture is noticeably worse than a bayer filter array, about on par with a m4/3 sensor in areas with specific colours.

    But the X-T2 has less red and blue photo sites than standard bayer 24Mp sensor. So actually it has less color resolution :). Yes the lack of low pass filter and the sharp fuji lenses give a lots of detail but it is only monochromatic detail. colorwise X-trans is weaker and if you process it (from RAW) to get more detail the moire is there. In conclusion - it is awesome but not that far from the others.

    Simeon Kolev our eyes are more sensitive to Luma (which is where green comes in best) than the other colors, this is why there are 2:1:1 in Bayer. 5:2:2 is not that much difference ratio wise. It also seems like there are lots of different RAW processors that give different results, but that is another discussion....

  • @simeonkolev1231

    @simeonkolev1231

    7 жыл бұрын

    Agreed :) but still I see the difference when I know where to look. I hope that you will test the T2 against bigger and more megapixel bayer sensors where it is much more visible how the colors are not there on the X-trans. Fuji lenses are great and they compensate in luma detail but a lot of people around me are crazy about those X-trans sharp sensors and for them even 50mp canon is not a mach... :). It is kinda funny when fans start to see things that are not there. So please do not be like Tony Northrup :) be objective. Cheers!

    Fuji has a gorgeous color and dynamic range. The problem with the fact that not all converters are work properly with fuji RAF. One of the good converters for fuji is olafphotoblog.com/2013/09/13/dont-sweat-the-details-but-a-non-scientific-review-of-iridient-developer/

    Michael, you are very good tester, but you are absolutely wrong!! :) X-Trans it's just commercial trick. Good on paper, but have less resolution and in real life have no advantage compare to bayer (without AA filter). Lenses often have less resolution than modern sensors and that's why it's really difficult to see moire on the photos. Do you remember Super CCD sensor from Fuji? It's a same "Revolution technology" like X-Trans...))
