Here is my "fix" for getting good autofocus in low light, especially for video: Set the camera to Continous focus mode and set one of the buttons on the back of the camera to "AF-On". You then set your focus area and hold the button and instead of getting crazy focus hunting it's much more usable. At least this is how I do it on my XT3 with this lens.

I really liked the 18-55 when I had mine (twice). But I've never liked the focal range, I always struggled with it. But when I used it for video, it was really impressive. I might have to get one again if I end up doing more video work. But for me personally, I've been using the 10-24 a lot more as I tend to shoot wide even though its slower. Great video Liam!!

@@TheLiamGordon I've heard people call the 10-24, the 18-55' cousin. Yes it's similar in build quality and design. But I like the fact that it's all internal zoom and I'd honestly say its build is better. The sharpness and the low distortion it has is significantly better than the 18-55. It's definitely one of Fuji's best lenses but some don't like it because it's not an 2.8 and its not WR. Well if it was a 2.8, it would be much bigger and heavier. Then they'd complain about that. You can't win....hahaha. I need to make my own video review/thoughts on the 10-24 after using it for a couple years.

Great photos. Very nice samples are rare. The f 2.8 (yes 2.8) - 4 is a great all around lens and one of the great bargains in photography, right up there with the Sigma 16mm f 1.4 DC DN. 'Kit' is a poor choice of words. Fuji made extra great efforts to make this worthy of it's X camera line up and it shows. It should have been tagged with a red label. I've shot successful weddings with less. You can see the results of the !8 - 55mm f 2.8 - 4 on my channel (X T3 60p VS 30p 4K Sample).

I've had my 18-55mm for a week now. I was getting frustrated with soft and inconsistent pictures. It LOOKS like the issue is that I needed to change my IS (image stabilisation) setting in my X-T30 menu from Continuous to Shooting Only. I'd read a couple of posts online where people had tried that, compared pictures, and found it better. Something to do with continuous creating a build-up of vibration that doesn't matter when filming so much but hurts still pictures. I've only tried the difference today and THINK I can spot a benefit. My pictures are really clear today, perhaps helped by the bright weather outside ... or by this potential fix. Will see.

  • @TheLiamGordon

@@TheLiamGordon Seems better. Hard to tell, as the weather here became glorious the moment I made the change - so better lighting etc. But it seems both far less soft and no longer halo-y :) I'm relieved, as the 18-55mm with the X-T30 is a nice light-ish combo for hand-carry on my walks. But I wasn't prepared to stick with it if the pictures weren't good. Hopefully sorted.

Having already the 18-135mm which I bought in a kit with my X-T1 back in the day (because weather sealing, but the IQ was sadly not there) I rather opted for the 16-55mm f2,8. Yes, the 16-80mm f4 might be more flexible, but the 16-55mm is more suited to my needs. And no, lack of OiS is not the problem if used on the X-H1...

I loved the 56mm f1.2 for portraits and also for street photography. I currently use the 35mm f2 for almost everything. Also any of the 23mm lenses would be great choices for a sort of “do it all lens” too, especially if you prefer wider focal lengths. Sorry that’s not a solid answer. Hi. I have a question regarding the Fuji XF 18-55mm lens. I just bought a second-hand copy of this lens and it makes a grinding noise I am not sure it is normal. When the aperture is on the smaller end (or whenever it is not on the widest aperture), the blades will instantly close up to the respective f stop when I half-press the shutter button. But when I release the shutter I can hear the blades making the noise as the aperture opens fully back up. Closing up makes a noise, but is fast and smooth, but when the blades open back up I can hear the noise but also notice a more stepped motion of the blades. Is this normal?? Thanks

Drew Eden the 50-230 is much cheaper though and you only get one extra stop of light with the 55-200. There’s not that much in it. Get yourself a wee f2 prime if you need a lowlight lens and you’ll have everything you need 👍

5:38 -- Wow. The disrespect is unreal. Look at the state of that U.S. flag compared to the fascist E.U. banner. Europe wouldn't be what it is today if it hadn't been for American intervention, and this is how we show our respect? Unreal. A complete shame!

It’s got nothing to do with Europeans. That flag stands across from Independence Hall where our nation was declared independent. Thank the Down Town Club in the city of Philadelphia.
