    Hey Jammi, this was really helpful. I'm very impressed how you had the courage and tenacity to take on not only the physical stress of transitioning but also the financial. You are one powerful dude that will never allow anything or anybody to get in the way of reaching your goals! I think that is awesome..............kudos to you............Ray

    This is so awesome to hear, I've decided to go private because when I start uni in September in Dundee I won't be far from the Aberdeen private clinic and although their costs are on the website I didn't know what the timescale would roughly be, but I guess it's similar to what you said here. Thanks for putting this out there man, I feel private trans healthcare in the UK is often overlooked and 99% of the information available is people talking about NHS waiting lists :')

And i dont want to go uni without being on T as i want to start transitioning before. Ive searched private healthcare and i couldnt find it but thanks to you i now have two places which can offer me private care and im so thankful bro

    I'm about to start Nottingham GIC... Maybe I should do some videos for it... I was told a six month waiting list on referral in January, but my first appointment isn't until next month. I think the waiting list is around twelve months for Nottingham. I've been told I'll need to have around three appointments to be approved for T (provided my mental health is OK... I work full time and study, I'm "out" as a trans man everywhere and have documents to prove it), which will take around six months... Then you need to be on T for at least six months to have top surgery... I'm unsure how that will work... I'm hoping so much to be able to get top surgery done up north as I can't afford to travel a lot. Even going to Nottingham will break my bank financially, but it's worth it to not wait three years to be seen at Leeds clinic!

    Hey dude I've been referred to Nottingham too! I got referred in July and won't have my first appointment until July 2016 which sucks. Hopefully I'll be on T at some point by February 2017 and top surgery 8-12 months after that. I might save up for surgery, I could probably raise the money myself.

    Hi there. Not Jammi I'm afraid but can give my experience so far. Yes, from what I've seen it costs a lot to go private still and waiting time for me on NHS is 3 years and counting. I'm trying to look into goin private if I can find one that's more affordable for me.

    I've just saved up enough money to be able to start with gendercare. On one level I'm super excited but on another level I'm absolutely terrified that I'm going to pay all this money for the assessments and I could potentially be refused and they could tell me I don't meet the gender dysphoria diagnosis. I've been socially transitioned for nearly a year so I can't really see how I could not meet the diagnostic criteria but I still can't help thinking that they might say I'm "not trans enough".... I'm so scared I've waited so long for this it's terrifying that my future is in there hands. Also at the moment due to covid19 they are carrying out their appointments over zoom. So Im now torn between holding out until they go back to face to appointments (but I've got no idea how long that will be) or just biting the bullet and doing it now anyway even if it means doing it over zoom. But it's hard to imagine doing such an important and paying so much money to do an appointment over a zoom call. Crazy emotions right now!!!! 😁

    Dont worry I am the exact same. I was saving up to move out of my transphobic family house and then just suddenly realised that privately transitioning is a thing but now I'm torn between using that money for moving or transitioning both have pros and cons and I'm also the type of person who hates spending money and I too am terrified of "Not being trans enough" and wasting my money

    @@jaydenbarker200 it was £300 for my first appointment to see Dr lorimer. I contacted him in June and was given an appointment in August. Then I contacted Dr hammond for my second appointment in August and was given an appointment in September. The apo will Dr hammond was only £225. Then they wrote to my gp with details of my diagnosis and instructions to prescribe testosterone. The gp took about 6 weeks to sort me out the prescription for T. I just pay normal nhs price for my prescriptions

    Does anyone know of any private clinics outside London? I live in Manchester so going down to London multiple times isn't ideal but the only one that I could find is MTF only and I'm FTM. I've been quoted a wait of up to 21 months on the NHS and that just isn't an option for me.

  • @Jammidodger

    @Jammidodger

    +Annie Ayres Hey, I had a look online and could only find the one for MTF people, really sorry. I do know you can coordinate some of your appointments so that they are on the same day, like with transhealth I had my second appointment with Dr Curtis and my Counsellor appointment on the same day, so that might be a back up plan if you can't find anything closer.

    I am afraid you will have to go to London. I am from Manchester too and have to travel to London. It ruined me financially and I have run of money and still don't have any surgery. I managed to switch to NHS but they keep sending me for unnecessary appointments to Charing Cross hospital, often cancelling and rebooking last moment. I noticed you posted this a year ago so hope you are now transitioning.
