I installed conduit for the tech to pull the fiber threw. Buried the pipe a 2 feet below the surface to protect the fiber plus added a tracer wire. I believe in spending a little more time to do the job right and not having to come back to fix it later.

Job security for this guy when the city replaces sidewalks, every one of these shallow drops will be destroyed.

Everytime I see a video from the US i am just annoyed. Just do it right, then you only have to do it once. I love to watch videos from Victory Outdoor Services. Every 5th time they renew a driveway, pour a patio or some stairs they rip a fiber or coax line just 3 inches under the sod. Just peak stupidity by the ISPs.

Take a hammer and tap lightly around the outside of the lid to break it loose. If your hand burying drops Id buy a wilton thinline trenching spade, makes the job 100 times easier then a shovel.

I like the drill bit. I have had to do that in phoenix as well because all of the coliche and didn't think about frozen ground. I don't know if the shovel would work here though to trench . I usually have to get a pick axe to dig anything... The biggest issue here would probably be all of the buried sprinkler lines. I like the people who think that you should bury this a foot or more. Who is going to pay the cost. That would easily treble, quadruple or more the cost.

When I used to pull covers to inspect work, I used a couple of visegrips to grab on to those pins.

Is there a rule that says you can't do your work on the tailgate of the truck? Would be better for your back.

To open the lid just hammer a 1/2 " cold chisel between the lid and the frame....it will pop in about 2 hits

I would think it was easier to go even deeper under the city's walkway when concrete. instead of struggling through this layer of gravel as there is a lot of gravel under the concrete, that gravel is the code for how much foundation/gravel there should be underneath, so if you found out what the requirement in your work area is, you will probably save time and frustration is there any medical reason why you were spitting so much, a bit unpleasant to look at and think people and property owners might not like it either

You would have had better luck going through under the sidewalk by digging deeper. You are trying to go right through gravel layer, which is not going to work out very well. I am also surprised you are not running it in the conduit when burying it so shallow. Landscapers or home owner can easily damage the line that shallow. One hit with shovel, it is done. Verizon FiOS installers around here buries fiber in conduit. They have separate dig crew for burying cable and they are not as skillful as you are. They don't know how to make fiber splice or termination. They just run pre-made cable in conduit, but apparently it is company policy to run cables in conduit so they can just replace fiber if something happens to fiber later. Dig crew don't even know how to test fiber and damaged fiber while pulling at my friend's house. Installer came later date. He cannot pull fiber in conduit. He had to make temporary run outside so the dig crew can come back out to replace fiber in the conduit. It is not so efficient for the customer, but I think it is better for the installers.

I havent seen any of our communications installer use conduit any where but at the base of a pole or the house. Sometimes i do go deeper at the sidewalk to avoid this extra duration.

How many strands are in the cable that you bring to the customers house?

Currently we are using a two strand drop and only using one per customer, but if its a duplex it would usable by the next customer there.

Clearly that vault was Made in USA. It is substandard American garbage that becomes inaccessible in the winter. That doesn't happen with the vaults that we have in Europe.

@@nick21614 We get -10 to -30 in Europe, same as northern US. We just use iron plus concrete vaults. They do freeze up but at least we can heat them with a blowtorch without them melting away because they are plastic.

Might be time to get a better camera my dude, even if its just 1080p. Had to skip most of the video because of the glare, and apparently whatever camera you're using doesnt like motion. Hope you can remedy that sometime. If it wasnt for being in 4K id assume you were using a cheap security camera to record your footage.

I use a ordro emp 8 suppose to be 4k , but this is the first one i uploaded in 4k. Sometime you have to click on the higher resolution button on the video to make it switch. It does get cloudy on some of my videos from the warm camera and cold outside temps fog the lens.

@@naturallyrootedgrowers it was already on 4k, i tried 1080p and it was still bleh. Getting glare/haze cuz of temperature does makes sense though. But yeah, could be cuz of temps also or cuz of the cam itself, but it doesnt appear to like movement very much. For that kind of footage i dont think 4k is really necessary
