FINNISH VERSION FINALLY IN HQ!
Disney Suomi decided to finally upload this song in Finnish :) Like last time, I added subtitles and translation to the video.
HUOMIO! Englanninkielinen teksti videossa on käännös! EI alkuperäinen englanninkielinen sanoitus.
Singer is Katja Sirkiä
I own nothing!
Here are the lyrics:
On hyiset vuoret ne lumiset niin
Hanki hohtaa hehkuen
On linna niin yksinäinen
Sitä yksin hallitsen
Ja tuuli ulvoo niin kuin myrsky sisälläin
Siellä pysy ei, vaikka tahtoisin
Ei tulla ei saa, ei nähdä saa
Kiltti tyttö sä ole aina vaan
Ei paljastaa saa tunteitaan
Se jäädä saa
Taakse jää, taakse jää
En tätä voi pidättää
Taakse jää, taakse jää
Ovi vanha taakse jää
Unhoittaa sanat julmat saan
Myrsky raivotkoon
Saa nyt kylmä viima tää puhaltaa
Kun joskus kaukaa katsoo, on kaikki pientä niin
Ja nuo pelon vanhat kahleet mä loihdin kadoksiin
On aika nähdä voimat mun
Ne koetella, vapauttaa
Pois vanhat säännöt, nyt mä oon vapaa
Taakse jää, taakse jää
Tuuleen jäiseen mä nostan pään
Taakse jää, taakse jää
On menneet päivät nää
Tänne jään ja nostan pään
Myrsky raivotkoon
Mun voima halki ilman käy, se iskee kii
Mun sieluun piirtyy jäiset huurreruusut kylmät niin
Ja kirkas kristalli on ajatuksein tää
Ei palaa entinen, se kaikki taakse jää
Taakse jää, taakse jää
Enää tyydy en vähempään
Taakse jää, taakse jää
Myös kiltti tyttö tää
Jääköön taa, uutta voimaa saan
Myrsky raivotkoon
Saa nyt kylmä viima tää puhaltaa

'Frost roses' huurre is the ice frost that condenses on solid surfaces, like windows, metal. english has double letters tOO, like swEEt, beTTEr, not to say swet and beter :) - But we do have them more! :) Amd the meaning is simple - say (double) long what's doubled.

That we almost always say every letter the same way is actually what makes it easy to anticipate :). You don't have to think how this letter works with that letter. Few exceptions we have: in hangittää etc. we gon't say g, just we say heng like the English, ang double the 'ng'-sound. Also we double the consonant j in taakse(j) jää and some other word boundaries. Then there's ruoat said like 'ruuat' etc. But mostly every letter is always the same.

What makes Finnish difficult is that you have to keep the difference between the long (doubled) sunds and the their short opposites, like English in pUll vs pOOl, or bIt vs bEAt. Though it's not just the length for them, but in Finnish it is. Some Finnish sounds are difficult for most learners, let's think of the English speakers: ö and y vowels. Englsih has ä, but it's spelled differently: a - and a is not ä in every cAse (keis in Finnish, compare vein) - but the ä is in words like 'hät, thät, sääd'... :). Also h before other consonants, like kahvi (coffee), is what causes problem for the English speakers. And then there are the words longer than 3 syllables :) Mostly they are compounds (yhdyssanoja) - but some adjectives are pretty log too, like jäätymätön (unfrozen, unfreezable), mielikuvituksellinen (imaginary, fantastic, 'imagination rich').

This is 1 of my all time favourite dubs of let it go. although it isn't the kind of voice that I'd personally think of for Elsa or Rainbow Dash, she's powerful, cool and sassy. she's really letting go and she doesn't care what people think. really what let it go is all about

  • @rase5994

+MaikuBoy1 Both jää and jää have the same root. As +lionlyons already mentioned, the root of 'ice' in finnic languages also means 'left behind / stay behind' or a 'leftover' (jäte, jätis, jäänus, jäänuk). This is the essence of ice. In indo-european languages, it is 'stay as stone', while in finnic languages it is 'stay as ice'.

Oh thank you ! At least a good audio ! I actually like her. She's not the best, but she has something very cool ! She sounds very into it. I think it's great they managed to let "Let the storm rage on" just like in the English version. I wish they did it for the French version, I really like this sentence. And, I find interessant she repeat the main lyric "it's left behind" few times ("The old door is left behind", "it's all left behind") Not my favourite version but i actually really like some lyrics like "So cold, ici frosted roses are drawn into my soul" ! So poetic ! Great.

Could be yes. "Jää" is both "stay" and "ice". Then "taakse jää" is "left behind". These in my mind are the most relevant here.

John M. Keating Taakse jää means litterally '(to )Behind stays' - poetic word order for 'jää taakse'. It's not necessary to always mention what is doing the staying, or whatever the verb comments. Finnish is specialized in dropping words from the sentences, when they can be hinted only, by the context. Like here, she implies the former life is staying behind, and mentions it elsewhere - so it's easy for the lazy, or the poet, to leave it out in other sentences of the same story. It could be also read as 'Behind ice', like 'behind with the ice'. Only, she now excels with playing with the ice, so the double meaning is not really making sense here. Guess they didn't mean that. But in the end of the movie (a spoiler follows) when the country melts, it could be utilized.

Katja on mielestäni aika hyvä, mutta ääni on mun mielestä turhan "tavallinen" Elsan kaltaiselle hahmolle ja siinä ei ole niin sellaista eleganssia sekä majesteettisuutta. Kuitenkin mielestäni ihan hyvä ääni, vaikkei parhaimpia Elsalle. Mutta Katja näyttelee erinomaisesti sekä hänen energiansa on mieletön!

  • @R4nd0m88

Fun fact. She sings "Taakse jää" wich means as you can see above "It's left behind" The word Jää, can be used like this example I stay=minä jään, but it also means ice. Jää=Ice so it fits quite well into the lyrics in my opinion.

Vaikka monet sanookin Katjaa huonoksi valinnaksi Elsalle, mut mun mielestä ääni sopii hahmolle loistavasti.

Simon Björklund 'jää' would be more like 'yah', compare 'nah' in English, maybe 'näh' in Swedish. Mixing 'taxi' (English) to 'taakse' is like mixing 'fär' and 'far' in Swedish, or some other Scandinavian.
