Magneto: "Inpudent child!" Tetsuo: "The hell are you calling child?! I make the rules around here!"

This was honestly the saddest Death Battle in my opinion, but at least Magneto put him out of his misery.

Tetsuo: "Thank you" Magneto: (sighs) "You're welcome"

Part of the reason why the movie is so different from the manga is because Katsuhiro Otomo, the mangaka, jumped at the opportunity to make a movie about his story... problem was, he hadn't finished it yet. He had only begun the manga merely 6 years prior to the movie, so he didn't _exactly_ have a clear idea how the series was going to end (fun fact: the manga ran from 1982 to 1992, ending 4 years after the movie came out, in 1988). Plus, he was working with a massive time crunch, trying to figure out how to fit the entirety of his work into an hour-long timeslot, but doing it in a way that the audience, the people working on the animation, and the film's investors would find satisfactory.

That got the characters right from their powers to their personalities. Especially Magneto. Magneto is my favorite tragic villain next to Darth Vader.

It's also a very common tactic among manga and anime creators to make adaptations slightly different from the source material, as a means of generating interest for the original, as well as allowing the people working on the project to have more breathing room for their creativity. For people who'd never heard of AKIRA, this would serve as a gateway for them, to pique their curiosity; for those had already read the manga, this would allow them to have fun watching the movie (because, as anyone who had ever seen the film adaptation of Alan Moore's _Watchmen_ would tell you, the film's main flaw was how RELIGIOUSLY it followed the format laid down by the graphic novel, which bored those who had already read the graphic novel before; I know it seems crazy to dislike a movie for not deviating from the source material... but, you have to admit, when adapting something, you don't want it to be an EXACT replica, a clone, because it just... I dunno, they could've done something to make it stand on its own, instead of needing to be supported by the comic).

"In the comics, Magneto can do so much more than that," (Control metal). Makes sense, since electromagnetism is one of the four fundamental forces (the others being gravity and the strong and weak nuclear forces.)

X-Men Apocalypse was probably the closest Magneto got to his full potential.

Dude, almost every single time comic book characters are put in movies or TV-shows, they're nerfed big time. But I say it works that way since several of these cases are origin stories and the characters are in process of their personal growth in those adaptations. While in comics they had decades worth of content to have their growth and experience reach these insane power feats.

It's Eisenhardt (Ai-sen-hart). And yeah, these two are well written tragic villains, powerful ones too.

Kind of surprised Magneto didn’t say anything like “Tetsuo, Welcome to Die!”. Oh well, still a great fight though!!

Well, there's an "Welcome to Die" Reference when Tetsuo gets into Magneto's Mind If you hear clearly, you can hear Tetsuo saying "Welcome… to… DIE!"

I think the reason why FOX doesn't display Magneto's full power is that they, like most laypeople, have only a rudimentary understanding of science, magnetism especially, they only know that certain ferrous metals can be manipulated by electrical potential. However, as Wiz notes, pretty much EVERYTHING in creation has _some_ metallic properties in it, because of the way molecules work using electromagnetism, ions, protons, electrons, to make them work, from the iron in your blood, to the metalloid composition found in stars. Hell, Magneto could tilt the entire Earth's axis by manipulating the metallic core of the Earth (which is made chiefly of IRON and NICKEL, which are very ferromagnetic). So, having just the base understanding of how stuff works, they kinda undershot Magneto's true capabilities. I'm not trying to sound like a KnowItAll douche, I just like sharing trivia and I like reading science textbooks so I can fact check the authenticity of various claims and know whether someone's done their research. And the people at RoosterTeeth most definitely have, doing Magneto justice.

The creator of the comic also directed the movie but the movie was made and came out(1988) 2 years before the comic completed it's run 1990.

Fun fact: At some point in the 80's, Akira Toriyama either read the Akira manga or saw the film and was inspired by tetsuo Shima's wild hairstyle. Interestingly, the Akira film was released the same year that Vegeta first debuted in the dragon ball manga, in 1988. Which means Tetsuo Shima's hair probably inspired Vegeta's own hairstyle. But that is one of someone's theories about what inspired Vegeta's iconic hairstyle, sooooo........... I don't know if that's true, who knows. (It could be true.)

same since he is the one thing Herc never faced. A Shape-Shifter who actually uses his powers in combat.

I honestly doubt Tetsuo could grow more powerful than Magneto if the fight lasted long enough. Given how large a Marvel universe is in comparison to the Akira universe (since we haven't really gotten any size for it, we have to assume it's as big as our own), that just doesn't seem possible.

Frost:Why wasn't this in the movie ? It's simple, the movie was made before the manga concluded,thus leading to many delightful Anime original endings, right FMA 2003 Soul Eater Akame Ga Kill and Promised never land season 2

I love your reaction. And yes stan lee was very open that mutants were meant to be a metaphor for both racial minorities oppression and oppression of LGBT+ people (which is why the x-gene's activation is so tied to puberty). He even admitted later that the LGBT+ comparison might even be MORE relevant than the racial because while most people for obvious reasons cannot hide their race from others to blend in, most mutants can appear completely "normal" until puberty and then suddenly something smees to awaken within them making them different or 'queer' in eyes of those around them but the change is often still invisible until something forces it out. The whole Mutant Registration Act was literally reference to series of laws that used to exist and still do exist in many places requiring the 'forced outing' of LGBT+ people. Anyways, sorry about the long side-tangent. Thanks for the reaction.
