Had a Frontosa for 35 years but lost him to Hurricane Sandy Fed him just 1 boiled Egg every day which I believe is why he lived so long with the high protein I’ve been in this hobby for over 50 years and raised many African Cichlids but My favorite is the Frontosa

I can't tell you how much I love this species! Just a fantastic fish. Colorful, active, personable. My big male was the peace keeper in the tank. He didn't tolerate any fighting or squabbles. They're also great parents (mine were, anyway). You definitely need a tank bigger than 55 gals if you're keeping more than one. My big male was HUGE. Mine were in a community tank with Kribs and yellow labs and they worked out for me.

With the neolamprologus Brichardi the issue I've seen isn't that the frontosa eat them as they get big. It is that the Brichardi breed and then bully the Frontosa. I saw a 400 gallon mixed cichlid tank once that had brichardi in it that had spawned many times. The colony was so big and got so agressive that the larger Frontosa, Haps and Peacocks literally were bunched in the upper back coners and pinned there. Once that started the store that had the tank had a massive Brichardi sale on all the fry and juveniles lol.

A few questions. Is that rock stack a backdrop or a decoration in the tank. If it’s a decoration where do I get one from. I have a 4 ft tank with a 7 bar frontosa and 2 striped silver dollars. The frontosa is slightly aggressive. He gets in moods where he chases the silver dollars and tries to bite them. If I wanted to put a female with him would it need to be more than one and would he still be aggressive towards her as well or would they be ok together. It’s currently the three of them together and I want to add some more. Is that a smart idea or not. Any one with experience please feel free to message me and help out
